Milly's Boxer Puppies Milly is a beautiful 2.5 year old brindle boxer. She is a non registered or papered boxer. We are located in Duncan, British Columbia. We are not actual breeders.

Milly has all the amazing boxer characteristics - funny, smart, curious, cuddly, bed hog, and of course, an Olympic snorer and farter! Milly is our third boxer. We love the breed so very much and had a difficult time finding Milly because there are so few boxers available. Milly is such a beautiful, loving, trainable and (surprisingly for a boxer) well behaved dog that we wanted to pass on her traits.

Hello everyone. We are on the lookout for a stud for our lovely Milly. Ideally a fawn male (over 2 years old) on Vancouver Island (but we could do the mainland as well). Male must have been Embark tested. Milly is 100% boxer but does carry one DM trait, therefore we need a male with no traits.

Well due to the success of our first litter and the amazing testimonials of our puppy families, we have decided to do one more (and only one more) litter.

So Milly is looking for a temporary boyfriend in a few months.

Male must be Embark tested (100% boxer and NOT a carrier of DM trait). Looking for fawn, reverse brindle, or brindle, with small amount of flash.

We are located in Maple Bay. Looking for male that can travel to us.

We were fortunate to spend the weekend with Priva. We have never seen Milly react like that to another dog so we are completely sure she “recognized” her puppy (no matter what years of research says - lol).

They had the best time together. The first night at 4am I really felt like I had little kids again when they both woke up and thought that was a legit time to play!

Priva is a sweetheart - so well behaved, a great leash walker, and just a serious love bug. She literally melts into you. Funnily, she still “talks back”, just like she did as a baby. I sat down with a sandwich and all of a sudden she was “wooo wooo wooing” at me - lol

FARLEY – this sweet-faced pup is always hitting the right angles with his gorgeous looks. He puts the eyes in “puppy dog eyes” and you’ll be falling head-over-heels when you see the way he looks at you.

FINN – it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Super-Finn! This quiet cuddly boy is active at playtime with his brothers and sisters. He’s always the first pup to try something new.

OSCAR - is ready for an evening Trick and Treating with his cute toque. He is always up for playing outside but then likes to snuggle up warm.

RUPERT - was just sorted into Gryffindor house at Hogwarts because he's a born leader who understands teamwork! Rupert is the alpha but he is calm and even tempered.

SCOUT - Our darling runt. Don't let his size fool you - he is feisty, small, and fast just like his Canuck's hero, Nils Hoglander!

THEO – his costume may be punk rock, but sweet Theo actually gives the best kisses of the litter. The only white male of the bunch, Theo is always the first to run up and let you pet his soft fur.

WALT - love this dog, you will! Walt is cute, sweet, and curious just like Baby Yoda in the Mandalorian.

OLLIE – Cuddle up and stay warm with snuggle bug Ollie! He always wants to curl up in your arms and give you kisses.

Drumroll please.....its puppy NAME REVEAL TIME!!!!!
There have been no new puppy updates as we have been puppy busy. First we expanded their puppy pen so they have more room to run around. Second we did individual photo shoots in preparation for finding the puppies homes (SOB)

Our incredible neighbour and fellow boxer owner, Jane Sheers, wanted to pick up her camera again, and offered to do a photo shoot for the puppies. Little white female isn't included as she already has a family waiting. Little red collar Scout is also missing as I could only do ten pictures. I'll post all their pictures tomorrow as they are beautifully done!

Today was a big puppy day as we had our first real cat meeting with Gus and the puppies WENT OUTSIDE! We put them in two seperate small pens outside so we could give their home a really good clean.

They were not impressed with being separated and behind bars so then we just let them go. It was somewhat nerve wracking with puppies going under the car, through the fence, and into the fern. But they loved it and Milly was enjoying playing with them outside. We brought them back to their pen in the wheelbarrow which was totes adorable.

Milly is much happier and we are doing some one on one time with her and pups and it’s nice to see her start to teach them about proper biting etiquette. It is funny watching them follow her about as they try and suck and she carefully steps over and around them so they can’t latch.

Also hallelujah but most of them are now p*eing outside their bed which means less changing and less puppy pads and less laundry. The machines have been literally going from about 6am until 6 pm daily so it’s nice to see that slowing down.

Today was a day of absolute puppy chaos!! The kind of day you never imagine when you decide to have a litter. Another milestone day which always throws our ‘hanging by a thread’ routine out of kilter. The Blåhaj pics today are so indicative of how we all felt!!

We had TWO ESCAPEES from the whelping bed!! This is a huge deal and means we need to erect a temporary cardboard addition to the walls as they are too young to move to their phase 3 housing - the garage.

We did two feedings today with formula on plates. They seem to get it and dive in but then the most anxiety inducing event occurs - they all shiver and shake and really cry.

Reading seems to point to stomach upset from the introduction of formula or coldness from getting the liquid on themselves and then licking each other or just excitement or D. All of the above.

Whatever the reason I just get very upset and cover them with blankets and crank the heat and soothe them as best I can.

We can no longer put them in the basket to change their bedding so Maxwell Hughes took them into the bathroom and shut the door. Pretty much everyone p*ed and then walked in it and then pooped so it was a comedy of errors as we tried to simultaneously contain them while not stepping on slippery p*e and wipe up 💩 nanoseconds before some other little 🐾 stepped in it.

By mid day my sweat pants were coated in a variety of filth - glamorous this is not!

Then Dan and Max had to go to four different places for puppy and Milly related products, a time consuming task when we live 20 minutes from the nearest location.

Of course there were some sweet moments of one on one calm, puppy breath, a shuddering puppy just relaxing into my arms, Milly got to run in the woods and had a bath, watching them play together, and this morning Gus and Milly laying on our bed together for the first time in three weeks and his little paw resting on Milly as if he was comforting her (which I know he wasn’t but it looked believable!).

Today the puppies ATE FOOD, well a mixture of 🐐 milk with a teeny bit of wet food, and I was surprised by how well they all did. Everyone got it everywhere and then they all licked each other which was hilarious. Then they were all shivering and had to have blankets over them. Poor little mites.

Milly has definitely begun the weaning process and only feeds them about three times a day. We weighed them this morning and all are steadily gaining, with half of them over 3 pounds.

Pupdate day 13 - the Hughes dozen are progressing nicely at nearly two weeks old. Little red is nearly one pound, and four are over two pounds.

We’ve figured out that it’s actually better to bottle feed the larger pups and to put them in the basket so the five smaller ones get unfettered teat access (yes yes that sentence sounds dirty).

At least half have their eyes fully open and are getting up on all fours now. When in the basket we have to watch as a few are able to get out now.

They are often found lined up against IKEA shark 🦈 and she makes a lovely substitute mama - warm and soft.

Milly continues to look very resigned to the continual tugging and pushing and we’ll all be pleased when we can begin to ween them.

Because they are more substantial we do often find ourselves pulled into the cuteness vortex, and sit for half an hour with one asleep on us. They now have puppy breath!! Max and Tegs both received puppy hickeys on their chins from little red, his suction skill level is crazy.

Our interrupted sleep continues with all the squawking and squeaking and squealing. Once little red is over the one pound mark, I think it will be time to move them to the main floor. That will make them more comfortable with general household noises and allow us to get better sleep.

You get double pictures today because I don’t think I’ve posted in a few days.

Pupdate day ten - puppies are starting to have little personalities now. Their little claws have grown sharp.

Little red is the only pup who isn’t over the one pound mark, while three are nearly over 2 pounds. Still he is gaining daily and check out the pic of him latched to Dan’s finger and not letting go as Dan lifts him up!!

Dan is the puppy bottle feeding expert and makes sure the three smaller ones get lots of goats milk.

White with green collar makes the most noise. Purple, orange and blue collar are powerhouses and bulldoze their way to milk. Pink and brown collars are quiet and content. White with blue collar is often up near Milly’s head.

Milly is doing alright and today I gave her a bath. My parents and their cocker spaniel arrived yesterday and Milly is liking the company and able to relax a little more.

This weekend I hope to take individual pics of them so I can reveal their names!!

Here’s lots of pics and videos. One video is hilarious as purple collar is eating and manages to do a complete circle while still sucking.

Daily cute!

Oh my not even a week and some are nearly 2 pounds, with red and white with green collar not quite over the 1lb mark yet. Milly spent quite a bit of time away from them today, so they seem to have a more regular eating/sleeping cycle going on. They are definitely starting to get up on all fours!

It’s hard not to take thousands of pics a day as each part of everyone is so teeny and adorable.

Day four of puppydom and everyone is thriving and gaining weight. We have been giving the four smaller ones some goats milk. Although we know they are all getting their fair share as they sleep regularly (a sign of nice full tummies).

Milly is now able to leave them for long enough to play stick for five minutes with us, which is so good for her to be able to stretch her legs and have a break. She is also eating downstairs again whereas we have sometimes been hand feeding her in the whelping bed.

We are feeding her sardines and tuna and cottage cheese and puppy kibble and goats milk. But she doesn’t like everything all the time so we have learned to put a small bit in a bowl to see if that is what she wants at that moment.

They are bundles of adorableness - teeny little pink noses and paws, little tails that sometimes stick straight up if they are eating and already wag, tiny ears that mostly are still flat against their heads but occasionally flap out, and the cutest tongues that start to go in and out if they are hungry.

And the noises! There is the shrill “I’m squished”, the angry “this is not a teat”, the insistent “feed me NOW”, the indignant “mum stop licking me, I’m clean enough” and the bleat of “my belly is full and I’m nice and warm”.

They shudder and shiver and twitch in their sleep, climb over each other with paws pushing and scrambling (survival of the fittest in action), and they are starting to travel a little using their front legs.

The maternal wards nurses have relaxed somewhat and can now sleep for multiple hours at a stretch and have learned to distinguish the noises enough to know when to leap out of bed.

We change the 4 puppy pads about three times a day and all the bed linen every two days. We often have to play “where is the poop?”, as it seems to show up on clothing and floors and walls and door handles!

As requested - videos!!!

Everyone is doing well on day one of their little lives. Everybody is eating and very lively. Even the smallest, little red is feisty and getting his turn at the teat.

Milly is being fed lots of calcium and liquids. Sardines, tuna, fish protein puppy kibble and goats milk.

She is completely protective right now so changing their bedding has become a fast change operation!

They are so NOISY! Lol someone is always getting lost by climbing on her back or pouting the wrong way or disappointed to find what they are sucking on is a sibling’s ear! Then they let out noises that pierce my eardrums - lol.

I grabbed some quick pics of a few while Milly went for a p*e and of course can’t stop taking pics of them cuddled into their mama!

We are up to ELEVEN. Milly is doing amazing and just had some ice cream for the yummy calcium. All the puppies are much better weights than I could have hoped for. We have two whites, 2 fawns, 1 very dark brindle. Mostly males.

So many puppies are tricky but we have been making sure everyone latches. We are now giving them a bit of goats milk just to make sure their tummy’s are full.

And so it begins!! Darling Milly has been out of sorts since the middle of last night. She tried to get under the porch this morning to make her nest but luckily the shredded paper I added to her whelping box worked and she is now laying in there. So we probably will start to see puppies this evening!

Well no nesting yet. Milly doesn’t like her whelping box so I’m trying to spend time with her in there and adding her fanoroite toys. She may have been trying to nest outside as she was digging a lot.

Last night I sat on the floor with her and had my hand pressed against her tummy and puppies were pushing and squirming against me - it was incredible.

Thankfully our latest heat wave is over as she was not enjoying the heat. We have one fan and we let he sleep in our bed with the fan directly on her.

We have puppy formula, goats milk, newborn bottles, old bedding, and little collars with coloured matching charts to record puppy weights and birth order.

Had our vet appointment this morning. Milly is in amazing health and we should have puppies arriving next week!!!! We've got the whelping bed set up in our bedroom and our birthing kit is all ready.

The vet and techs took such a long time coming to tell me how many that I was getting really worried there was a problem, then when he told me I just couldn't believe it.

*************TWELVE BOUNCING BOXER PUPPIES*****************

When the vet told me I started crying as I felt so bad for Milly - no wonder she has been a tad grumpy. We had planned for 6 so I am in shock and now doubling up all our supplies.

Apparently the birth will be easier as the puppies are going to be small. Concerns are Milly getting tired from having to birth that many pups. We will also have to be more hands on with weighing all 12 daily to ensure they are gaining weight.

It is going to be a crazy 9 weeks in our house - lol

MILLY - HEALTH & WELLNESS

Milly was really healthy as a puppy and we had no issues. We fed her ultra puppy kibble.

When she was 6 months old she got stung by a wasp. Her entire face and eyes were swollen and she had hives on her head so we rushed her to the vets for an antihistamine shot. It took two days for the swelling to go down.

We walked her twice a day on the leash and then one hour long walk off leash.

Again we had no health issues. But then when she was 1.5 years she was off leash and got stung for the second time. Again she was swollen and had full body hives. We went to the emergency vet and they gave her an antihistamine shot. But then two days later she vomited blood. It was so frightening and we rushed her back to emergency. For two days it was touch and go. They couldn’t diagnose what had happened but they thought maybe she had eaten some rat poison from the off leash area. It took her weeks to recover and she lost weight. We introduced sweet potato, cottage cheese, pumpkin, rice and boiled chicken to her diet. She slowly gained back her weight.

At this point we moved from Ottawa to Vancouver Island. My husband walks her up to two hours a day in the woods. She also loves beach walks and swimming in rivers and lakes. She is in beautiful shape - very lean and muscular with a shiny coat.

Then she started to get hives, yeast infections on her paws, and acne on her muzzle. We switched her to Ultra fish protein kibble and fish based treats. The acne cleared up but not the yeast or hives. So we started getting her allergy shots once every 6 weeks. This solved her skin issues.

During her last heat and the pregnancy she has had no allergy issues so we do not know whether it is the hormones making her allergy free or whether she has just acclimatized to the BC flora.

One month into her pregnancy we switched her to Ultra duck, turkey and salmon puppy food and give her a fish oil capsule daily.

The sire, Whip, has no health or allergy issues.

We would recommend that the puppies are fed Ultra dog food as well and that if they start to show any allergy symptoms that you switch to fish protein foods.
