Currently in NE region

UPDATE - Kia had a meet which has now been cancelled by the prospective adopters.
This is now even more urgent as we had stopped looking as a result of the meet.

Beautiful Kia is in desperate need of a new foster or forever home. She has until 10th August.
Kia is 3, spayed and would need to be the only dog in the household.

Dogs ❌
Cats ❌ (as unknown)
Children ❌ (over 12 only)

We do feel her reactivity can be worked on by someone who knows what they are doing as she is only reactive to certain dogs and does much better with a dogmatic.

She's fine being left and is a very loving girl.

Can you help our little Serbian princess?

*** ANNOUNCEMENT ***

We were devastated to learn of the loss of one of our active volunteers Nicki Prince at the weekend. Nicki was a fantastic volunteer and supporter of the rescue.
It really doesn't feel fair or just that we have lost such a beautiful person and at such a young age.
We can't imagine how her family and friends are feeling and send all of our love to them at this very sad time.
From us and all of the dogs she helped, we thank her and will miss her dearly.

Special Sid came to GSDR with his Mum, Auntie and siblings in early December.
The pups have been through it with infection and worm burden and the remaining ones were just about ready to go into their new homes.
On the early hours of Wednesday morning, Sid was rushed to the out of hours vet by Auntie Debbie with lethargy and blood in his eyes and urine.
On Thursday we didn't think he was going to make it.
The team at Moorview Referrals have been taking great care of him and things are looking better but he is still in intensive care.

He has been in full septic shock, renal failure and kidney failure.

His bill currently stands at £8360 and his amazing sponsor is covering this.

That said, if you would like to donate to help due to the size of the bill, please send to us and we will forward to them.

Every little bit helps and if you can't help please send your love and thoughts to this special boy. ❤️

Details on how to donate are in the photos, please mark any donations 'Special Sid.'

** PLEASE READ **
It is with a very heavy heart that we must let you know that for the first time ever, we are in a position where we cannot take on any more dogs.
We are full to capacity and have nowhere for any more dogs to go.
The rescue world has become increasingly challenging over the last couple of years with dogs sadly being more disposable than ever.
This is due to a mixture of reasons including the post-pandemic world and the economic climate.
The dogs we have are more complex and we have less homes that are prepared to help complex and often reactive dogs.
We are desperate for suitable rescue GSD experienced foster and forever homes.
Foster homes would ideally be dog free with no cats or young children, but a well balanced, older dog and the ability to keep them completely separate if needed could work.
If you think you can help, please complete an application form on our website www.germanshepherdrescue.co.uk
We would also welcome help from dog trainers who could help our reactive dogs to give them a chance at finding a home.
We don't expect this position to change for the foreseeable future.

Cast your mind back to September 2022 and you may remember little Shona.

At 8 months old she had been subjected to multiple beatings and was a bag of nerves.

Shortly after going into foster it was discovered that Shona had the most serious of heart defects and will probably only live until 3-4 years old. Too much exertion could result in sudden death.

Despite this, her fosterers opted to keep her in long term foster and give her the best life possible.

She has just had her repeat 6 month scan for her heart and she is doing very well, so much so that she doesn't need another for a year!

A lot of you donated to help with the ongoing costs of her care so thought you would appreciate hearing the positive news.

Be happy little one! ❤️
