Our friends over at Parkmore Irish Horse Imports have this fantastic pony available.

🇮🇪 to 🇺🇲

🦄 Alert!

Pebbles is a 7yr Purebred Connemara gelding. Just under 15 hands. He has done a little bit of everything: hunted, 1.10m hunter derbies, evented with a young girl. Most recently competed in the Interschools making it to the jump off.

Wellbred he is by I Love You Melody out of an Ashfield Festy mare and is N/HWSD.

Pebbles is your do it all and have fun while doing it pony. He has been ridden by a variety of riders from beginner to experienced, adults and juniors, and takes care of them all. He knows his job and loves it.

Safe. Sane. Bombproof. Confidence builder and baby sitter type. No stop, spook, or buck. Easy in all ways on the ground. Plenty of scope to take you up the levels.

Truly a special pony that has been well produced by his breeder.

Includes all import costs

*Located in Kentucky*

Utopias Stan the Man is a 5yr 15.3 Connemara Halfbred gelding sired by *The Quietman.

Super all rounder. Fantastic brain. Hacks out alone or in company. Great shape over a fence and lovely mover. Shown at a CT - won his class and a one day at the Kentucky Horse Park where he was very well behaved and finished middle of the pack in a large class.

Can't say enough good things about this guy he is just a fun horse and so easy to be around. Would be ideal for PC, a competent adult amateur or even a professional to take up the levels.

PM for more information.

Hi all, Connemara fanciers with the support of the American Connemara pony society are looking into the issue of Connemaras imported to the United States and then never registered and lost to the breed.

If you could take a moment to fill out this brief survey we would appreciate it as we work to figure out ways to make sure all Connemaras are registered and recognized.

Survey is closed thank you!

I wrote this a year ago but as misinformation continues it bears repeating.

Pictured:
The Hooves of a HWSD Affected (tested HWSD/HWSD pony).

And if you didn't know about the disease you'd think what? Maybe some chipping? Needs shoes?

This pony is sound and healthy. Just needs shoes and a regular shoeing schedule (like any other pony). (Oh and obviously this pony is alive currently at the ripe old age of 8).

Since the fear mongers are making the rounds again:

"It’s a genetic mutation which causes ponies with two copies of the gene to have hooves that fall apart.

There’s a test which can STOP anymore ponies ever suffering with this. It’s a death sentence for most."

Wrong.

Let me be clear. HWSD is a disease.

It is a disease we need to take seriously. To work toward eradicating from our gene pool and we are lucky that it is a simple recessive so we will have an easier time than most do in other breeds or types of animals (dogs, cats) with their own health issues.

It is not a death sentence for most.

Stop spreading fear mongering information.

HWSD occurs on a range of severity from mild (need shoes and a regular schedule) such as the pony pictured to moderate to severe and yes that severity can necessitate a pony being put down.

Rosewood Witchcraft known as "Crafty" was the poster child for HWSD in the States. She was an extremely severe case. But her case is not the norm. This is a disease that has been in the breed a very, very long time. I've spoken to long time breeders who remember Ponies with feet like this going back decades. It wasn't until the perfect storm occurred in the 00s in Canada and to a lesser extent New Zealand that breeders started to realize we had an issue. That communication and push led to research. That research to the tests we have today.

But the messaging has been a diaster pretty much everywhere but North America and that will harm the breed long term.

There are HWSD ponies who are jumping and competing, there are HWSD ponies being school ponies.

Fear mongering helps no one and does not spread accurate information.

Clear ponies are great.

Carrier ponies are valuable to the breed and must be retained to avoid loss of diversity and lines.

The fact I've seen bias against them is a failure of messaging and information. It is flat out bad science.

I've known Affected ponies I would breed in a heart beat because the rest of the pony is fantastic and we can work toward Clear in a few generations without loss of genetic diversity and viability.

Good, correct education only helps breeders.

Only helps the breed.

HWSD is far from a death sentence "for most."

Carriers are as healthy as any other pony and can be bred to Clear with no issue

We cannot lose our genetic viability and diversity.

HWSD is just one piece of the puzzle.

So be informed not fearful; and be open and transparent about your ponies status and breed with care the best pony to the best pony.

And yes that can mean a carrier x clear breeding.

I've bred Carrier ponies.

I've bred *to* Carrier ponies.

I would do it a million times.

Thanks Facebook for the memory.

Harwells Jenny Wren (Maam Hill x Anna's Girl by Ormond Oliver) 1988-2017.

I was twelve when Martin went up to Mayo and came back down with two mares - Jenny and her daughter Diamond - Jenny's Venetian Diamond (by Holiday Archfield). Jenny was in foal to Derrigragh Robin and that following spring foaled a c**t who would later go on to be a Grade C jumper in Ireland.

In total she bred 14 foals. Two went overseas - Diamond to Sweden and another daughter to France. She bred several foals by Catamaran for us.

Jenny was the epitome of a Connemara - tons of personality, kind, 100% pony. Remember we had her for five years and Martin wondered if she had ever been ridden. Up I went ba****ck with a halter and leadrope and Jenny never put a foot wrong. The best mother. Game for anything. Grandpa took her to a local show once and Jenny turned it on in the ring, coming home with a red rosette.

Everything a Connemara should be. A broodmares broodmare. In the field she passed away in there were four generations leading back to her.

The Grand Dame.
