We are a group of cocker and English Springer spaniels owners and lovers who have become increasingly concerned by the number of these wonderful dogs being offered for sale or even worse, free to a good home, help and advise owners who genuinely have to re home their dogs of better alternatives, encourage people to relinquish to rescue and take into our care any dogs who's welfare we are concerned

about. In October 2016, we became USA registered Charity here for the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of dogs namely but not exclusively spaniels, who are abandoned, stray provide and assist in the provision of rescuing, rehoming and fostering of these dogs and treat and care for them where necessary. When we see a ' free to a good home' dog advertisement, as well as any that are $150 or less, we will email, message or call and offer to help by taking the dog in to be fostered and subsequently adopted. Some people don't reply, some people can be a little bit rude, but there are some who are simply grateful for the help and advice and it is these that make it all worth while

Hi my name is Sid and I'm a show cocker.
Let's start with the good bits about me then I'll tell you some of the things about me that would mean a lot to me if you took on board.

I came into foster and I was absolutely fine at first, lots of cuddles from my foster dad and lots of strokes - I loved it! I still love fuss but only when I want it. I love all the beds in my foster dad's home especially the big soft fluffy one at night times.
I love my walks especially when I’m off lead but I don't like other dogs that are bigger than me and I’ll bark at them. My foster dad has introduced me to a few labradors and I barked at them at first but then realised they weren't going to hurt me, so I just ignored them. I get along with the show cocker I see most days on the field and I generally just ignore her but I do get a bit jealous when my foster dad strokes her but hey ho, I'm sure any dog would she's beautiful.
Anyway, I'm a good boy when I'm walking as I don't really pull on the lead but if I see something I really want, I put all my weight into it and try to get it. If I do get something in my mouth you can't go near me or else I’ll show my teeth and growl at you until I've eaten it, or you can swap it for a high value treat!
That's why my fosser dad would rather me in a rural area so I don't find things that people have chucked on the floor or in bushes as that’s when I’ll show my food aggression.

I love being off the lead but because I find things, I'm only allowed off when we know the coast is clear and I'm not likely to find anything in the bushes. (Shhhh my foster dad hates it when I do find something, he gets a bit annoyed with me and then sometimes I go a bit grumpy with him for a few hours).

Another little problem I have is if you stand right over me I'll air snap at you to warn you to go away. I've not bitten my foster dad, I just warn him to go away. Sometimes this means he struggles to get the lead on me to go out so I have to walk out the door with no lead, or he has to get the slip lead on me which I'm not a big fan of. This is the only to get me out as I'm stubborn and just want my own time to myself.
Please give me a chance, I'm a loving boy when I want to be. I love women and men but I'm still getting a bit of reassurance from my foster dad that they are not going to hurt me. I'd rather have women fussing me than men though. Please don't give me bones and other stuff because I guard these but my fosser dad will explain a little more in detail when we have a chat.

Sid is a lovely boy he just needs to be read right and if you don't read his warnings I think you will get bitten. I think Sid needs a forever home that has dealt with these issues in the past. He loves cuddles on his terms and he loves treats however, he is in a weight loss program with me and can get a little grumpy with me sometimes because he is hungry. He needs too lose a little more weight before he can have a normal dinner again (ps I hate this but it's for his benefit that he gets back to a nice weight).
Sid travels well in the car but if he knows he is going to a place he loves he gets really excitable with a few whines but who doesn’t when they know they are going to have fun!

Kind regards love Sid and his foster dad

Wow look at Ralphy what an amazing looking boy! but don’t just look at his photo as the cute cuddly looking dog, Ralphy is not a pet/family dog! He needs much more than a sofa and a lead walk around the park.

Ralphy is currently lodging at “The Farm” where he can use all his energy, although I haven’t seen his batteries die as yet, I believe he is solar charged! Saying this Ralphy settles exceptionally well at home and travels quietly in the car, this is where he takes the opportunity to recharge.

This young man needs more recall training, lets put it like this I haven’t lost him yet but he’s not always where I want him, he is always close to one of the other dogs and they have great recall so by default he comes back. I have only had to get him once when he was on the best scent ever and he was only a few yards away. I am about to start to train him to the whistle.

I would like to see him in a working home or very active environment where he can use his nose and turn that energy into becoming a fantastic young dog. I will not contact anyone that wants a “furbaby” he’s certainly not this and if he gets bored he could start using that pent up energy to become a trouble maker! Ralphy is fantastic with other dogs and loves to play when in the garden with them and run with them sticking to them when out and about (thankfully!). He would be great to go beating with, he’s not gun shy as we took him shooting and he is fine with thunder and lightning storms (we have had a few). He needs an owner that is experienced with working cocker spaniels and training them.

Summary:

Want a cuddly pet to stroll around the park? He’s not for you

Want a fun, high energy, amazing little dog with a real zest for life? Then hit that apply button

Teddy is an energetic young spaniel looking for an active home. His ideal home would be with a couple or teenage plus children. Teddy loves the occasional cuddle and loves other dogs. He can get a bit over friendly and needs to learn to accept other dogs won't always like him however much he kisses them! He responds well to positive praise and treats , Recall needs some work as can be easily distracted (mainly by other dogs). Sleeps happily downstairs on his own or with another dog. Teddy travels really well in the car and loves to go on little adventures where he can interact with new people and dogs. Teddy loves to get up on the furniture if not supervised, he initially showed guarding when he first arrived so now he’s only allowed up when invited. Understands the commands; sit, stay, come, paw, leave and off. Does not like to be grabbed by the collar (can growl or show teeth when feeling particularly threatened) but distraction or averted praise works well. He eats well and we feed him separately as he's slower than our two greedy spaniels. He loves playing with tennis balls/ other toys and will try to fit multiple balls at once in his mouth. Teddy has a lot of energy that can make him mischievous when bored (ie. serial sock and shoe thief - but will easily give up for a treat). Because of his energy levels we think he would be great at agility or another endurance based activity. When he gets tired he tends to take himself off somewhere quiet and also likes to have access to the garden whenever possible. Teddy is a lovable tornado looking for a home with another young playful dog. He also requires new owners that can commit some time into continuing his training and providing the lifestyle he needs.

Now, where to start with Marley pup….. if your thinking nice cute puppy, lets apply, please don’t. If you fully read his write up and think yes we can provide the right environment for Marley, then please apply.

Marley pup, came into spaniel aid with no manners, no boundaries and resource guarding issues. Your typical puppy, that given an inch would take a yard, sometimes this still applies when he’s in that mood. If its not nailed down or its laying around, then its Marleys for the the taking. He’s guarding of items has improved but will still need ongoing managing. Marley will now sometimes swap items for treats or sometimes can be distracted long enough to remove the item from his space, other times he wont give them up, till he’s ready to. Marley doesn’t do soft toys or beds, they tend to explode, leading to the contents being guarded by him.

Marley has lived alongside 6 other dogs while in foster care and got on well with all visiting dogs to the home too. He will happily play with the resident dogs but also likes to be close to a human and will quite happily lay by your feet or watch you through a stair gate, should you be in another room. Provided he can see you, he’s fine. Doesn’t like to be in a room with the door floor closed and will scratch at the door and cry, until its opened. He has also lived with 3 cats, occasionally he will bark at them, try and play with them in his puppy way but has never chased them. Feeding time can also be a problem if being fed alongside another dog/dogs. When he finishes his meal, he quickly moves on to the next bowl, despite being told off by the resident dogs, he will continue to eat from their food bowls. This will require further training, at present Marley is fed separately, as he doesn’t seem to be learning his lesson. Marley is housed trained and will bark at the door to go outside to the toilet. He pulls on the lead, but this is down to the ‘puppy excitement’ of going out and he does settle down and walk’s nicely. Out and about he behaviour is excellent. Greets humans and dogs without any issue. His recall is a bit hit and miss, but is getting better. He travels well in the car and has recently been on holiday in a caravan for a few days which he seem to enjoy, especially his trips to the beach, as he loves water. Marley has come into contact with children of all ages, but due to his guarding issue’s, a home with older children would be better. He sleeps either downstairs in the kitchen or upstairs, depending on his mood.

Marley’s forever home should be an active one, with humans around for most of the day, who are willing to put in the time to continue with his training. And also they must have experience of resource guarding.

Please don't be fooled by Toby's handsome looks, he is NOT a cute fur baby by any means, however he is a delightful lovable cheeky chap who can be anxious around new people and reactive around dogs he meets out on walks. It took a couple of weeks of letting him choose the pace before I saw his true happy personality start to shine through. He is a much loved dog who needs help with his anxieties and to learn how to be a relaxed dog, he has really struggled due to all the lockdown regulations. As a behaviourist I have seen him flourish as his anxieties have started to recede.

He settled well with my two dogs, though we did have a few spats until he understood the boundaries. While I have put no to dogs in general, he would really benefit from living with a dog that has no behaviour issues and that can put him in his place nicely. He is in awe of my female cocker and what she says goes, he only tried to argue with her once and now knows he is much better being nice to her. He plays really well with my springer, but on occasions he does push it as Charlie is too nice to tell him off, which is not good for Toby.
In the house, he pinches socks and anything he finds on the floor but will now happily exchange for a treat or give up if I just ignore him. He did try to guard the settee, top of stairs, doorways during his first days with me. but it was quite half hearted and he now knows the "look" that tells him to stop and he will give up. He has just been allowed back on the settee, but only at my invitation, which I don't do every night, though he does ask very nicely for snuggles.

When outside he is very anxious around other dogs and I have found he is more confident walking with my two, so again maybe another dog in the house would help. We have done lots of parallel walking and as long as he is ignored he can now walk past on the opposite side of the road happily. I have used a stooge dog sitting a few meters away ignoring him and he will take treats, but if a dog comes near him he does still react and lunge out of fear, if you try to give him treats he can't always cope with them and will redirect onto your hand - though all he does is a hard mouth grab. He has only done it a couple of times to me and didn't leave a mark. I can now block with my body if an off lead dog is passing and Toby has no reaction as long as the dog doesn't get near him. If I feel it might, we turn and walk away. Whoever becomes Toby's adopter will need to carry on working with this to stop it escalating again and help him to be more relaxed. I initially made sure he was walked where there were few dogs off lead to build up his confidence, hence why I feel he would be much happier in a rural/semi rural environment away from lots dogs being walked round streets and busy parks. His recall is good in woodland and fields but I haven't yet let him off in areas where there are other dogs. He has paddled in the local lake but not dared to get in - oh and he is a roller, in anything stinky.

The rest of the time Toby is an absolute pleasure. He is 100% clean in the house, stays while I pop out without any problems and loves s***fling about in the garden. He sleeps downstairs in the kitchen and that is where I would recommend he stays - he is happy and content there and being upstairs/on a bed would allow him to pick up on his guarding so this rule has to be followed. No bedtime snuggles in bed.

He needs something to do as he is a clever little dog. We've started both mantrailing and scent work and he loves it. The mantrailing is helping him overcome his fear of new people. He does lots of free work and loves the s***fle mats and licki mats which helps s***f out his triggers when we have seen dogs out on a walk. He does like collecting the post so I have a baby gate in place.
He is a dream in a crate in the boot of the car, we have travelled miles as I have been on several 2 day courses with my two dogs that involved 2 hrs drives each way and he settles down and sleeps. When we get there. he watches from the open boot in the crate quite happily and quietly as long as he is ignored.

He has let me groom him bit by bit and will now let me touch, brush and scissor most areas, clean out his ears and brush his teeth. His tail is still not 100% but we are making progress each day as he trust me more and more. He was ok at the vets, not comfortable but let her check his chip, stand near him and he ate the treats she dropped on the floor. I also had a tube of squeezy cheese which he loves.

Toby is a work in progress and because he can still hard mouth and has the potential to fear bite he can't live where there are children or visiting young children His adopters must commit to carrying on the work I have started and I will be happy to work with them. He is such a great little guy and deserves the home he needs. I have a wish list and he will stay with me until we find an adopter who ticks all the boxes so please don't apply if you don't meet any of the criteria. Toby has so much potential and pleasure to give his adopters as long as they are prepared to help him adjust at his own speed.

Harley is a very attractive little working cocker who is incredibly sweet and relatively easy to have around. He is perpetually jolly and we have not seen any behaviours that would be of concern, he has also previously lived with children and I think would enjoy a family environment. He would be a lovely first spaniel or first rescue dog for someone although not a first dog as there are some things to be aware of with him (see later). He has ended up in rescue through no fault of his own, due to owner emigrating.

He has lived alongside two resident dogs here but has mostly ignored them, much preferring human company. He is submissive and has not once retaliated if either of them has given him an earful – he just runs to me, crying. I am sure he would fit in well with an existing, friendly dog but equally would be fine as an only dog as long as he is not left alone too much since he loves human company.

In the house he is my shadow, wanting to be with me at all times (though he sits quietly outside the bathroom door, waiting). He sleeps under my desk whilst I work, often with his head on my feet. He would make a lovely companion for a home worker. I believe he is quiet enough that he could also go to a dog friendly office (after suitable settling in/introductions, of course). He is not that bothered about being stroked or cuddled but he loves snuggling next to people and would make a lovely sofa companion (though we don’t have dogs on our sofa here and he knows what “off” means). He settles easily and does not need “wearing out” in order to be able to rest.

He sleeps in a dog bed on our landing and is settled at night. He does occasionally scratch the door to double check it is closed, or gives a little bark to make sure we have not changed our minds about the “no dogs in the bedroom” rule, but is not distressed or persistent in this. He does, however, hear the alarm clock in the morning and will get up and make sure that you do not press the snooze button! We have left him alone for a maximum of 2 hours here (with other dogs for company) and are not aware that he has any issues being left, he has access to the hallway and landing when left and there is no evidence of any destruction or distress. I don’t know what he would be like left completely alone. We have not used a crate with him as he doesn’t really need it. He is overjoyed to see you return.

When excited, he likes to have something in his mouth in typical spaniel fashion, parading it around for you. He is pretty good at choosing a dog toy most of the time. If he chooses a shoe/sock/item of clothing, he is never destructive or possessive. However, a lot of items do make it out into the garden with him, and you will end up doing regular “spaniel sweeps” to put things back where they belong. He likes a tennis ball but is not ball mad. He is very food orientated and will try to mug you for treats or his bowl – we have worked on this, but bear in mind that he would take any opportunity to counter-surf (or get on the kitchen table) whilst your back is turned.

The main issue with Harley is that he is extremely excited and over-aroused when it comes to being outside. He has strong prey and chase drive. He has been a bit of a nuisance with my chickens, barking and lunging at their coop multiple times each day (though he can be re-called when in the garden, he just goes straight back unless I take him inside) so to keep everyone safe and sane, it’s best if he goes somewhere with no other animals besides dogs. He would chase livestock if he had the chance, no doubt.

The over-excitement starts as soon as someone goes to the front door and he will slide past people and bolt out the door if he gets the chance (I have experienced this, it is extremely stressful and he will not look back!), he has zero recall outside the garden and any off-lead exercise will need to be in a garden or secure field to begin with. Please think about how you would manage this at home before applying, especially if there are children and their friends coming and going through the front door. He can clear a baby gate. He made sure our garden had no escape routes in his first few days here, now he still patrols the boundaries but it is more in a nosy fashion than wanting to run away, though I have no doubt that he would take his chances if he found a hole. He takes great pride in keeping any wildlife out of the garden! A large secure garden where he can run around would be ideal for him, I think he would love running around with kids. He will bash his way through any borders so not for someone who is very garden proud.

Lead walking is very much a work in progress for Harley. He pulls relentlessly on both a collar and harness (he wears both when I walk him, since I am worried about either dropping a lead or him wriggling out of a harness/collar and running off) and does not stop from the moment you leave the house to the moment you get back. In the village he is constantly trying to get in, on or through any gate, wall or gap and he has zero road sense or sense of self preservation. I have not tried any gadgets on him such as haltis, since he is quite sensitive and my opinion is that they might cause more issues than they solve. We have worked on building a connection and he has gone from being 100% oblivious to me on a walk, to being able to stop, look at me and take a treat at points on a walk. Slow and sniffy walks are not in Harley’s repertoire and he just gets frustrated, equally he gets very frustrated if he sees something he wants to chase and he will vocalise. He is not at all bothered about other dogs on a walk.

Because he does not need wearing out to be able to relax at home, we have been doing 45-60 mins of brisk lead walking or running with him, plus running in the garden, plus various enrichment/playing/training activities throughout the day, and this seems to be enough to keep him satisfied. He has done 3 parkruns with me and does need managing on the running line, he’s not a natural puller but he does like the faster pace, and he sits nicely in the café afterwards waiting for a crumb of cake to fall to his mouth.

Loose lead walking and heelwork are currently a distant dream and I would suggest that if you are not that experienced, you would find it useful to work with a professional trainer on this. Walking Harley is, unfortunately, a necessary chore at the moment rather than an enjoyable, relaxing activity and if you picture long, relaxing dog walks for mindfulness then he is not the dog for you. However, if you can tolerate this and are willing to put in the effort, he is more than worth it since he really is an absolute gem. Dogs like him don’t come around very often in rescue, and he has an awful lot to offer to the right family. We have grown very attached to him during his time here and I am sure his new family will fall in love instantly.

Buster is a lovely dog once you get to know him. He has settled well into his foster home.

He has lovely manners with food and takes it off you gently. He will counter surf to see if there is anything for him though he hasn't pinched any food whilst in foster.

Buster walks well on his lead and both on the normal lead and the long line lead. He enjoys his walks and needs a lot of miles each day. He needs to be walked in quiet areas. We walk him on a bridle way where we rarely see other dogs. We have noticed that he can be reactive to larger dogs but this seems to be from fear. Usually if it is a small/medium sized dog there is no reaction from him if we get his focus via a treat. He can be reactive to all dogs if they are reactive first towards him. We find that crossing the road helps to manage this. In a secure field his recall is excellent but we have not had him off his lead apart from that, as when he gets a scent we struggle to get his attention. We know that he would chase cats, pheasants and he really dislikes horses. He will try to eat fresh horse poo but if its been there a while he shows no interest. No interest in dog poo either. He doesn't appear to be bothered by sheep or cows. When we take him to the enclosed field he is good at the agility equipment.

Buster does like finding treasure in the house eg slippers, tea towels, socks, but he will swop easily for a treat. He does not chew these items. He will though try to search out tissues both inside and outside the home and will eat them at speed.

Buster enjoys being brushed especially his ears and his fringe. He doesn't like his tail being brushed. He doesn't like his face being dried with a towel but has been ok when we have done his legs and body.

He would be happy as an only dog if he is given the correct stimulation . He loves his canine enrichment , he has his tea on a s***fle mat, he enjoys his kong and his licki mat. I also do a relaxation protocol with him in the evening and he has shown he is a quick learner.

He had a long journey to foster and he travelled well in the car with a harness and the seat belt.

In the first few days of fostering he did try to chew anything soft so we had to move cushions etc which we believe was down to stress of the change. He has bitten in foster when being dried on his face . Looking back we now know him better and the incident would have been avoided had we known about this. He has slept in the kitchen in his bed with a safety gate across the door way . When he wakes up in the morning he doesn't bark he just waits for us to come downstairs. When shut in a room for a couple of mins whilst carpet fitters were coming in and out of the house unloading, he was visibly distressed but calmed down quickly. This was the first time he had experienced a door shut with us.

We cannot make any comment at what he is like with children but suspect children would not know how to read him.

If Buster is in the same room as his owners, he will be very happy. We have left him for short periods of time and he has been fine. He is very quiet in the house. If he doesn't want to do something he will roll on his back and do a very quiet low growl which is barely audible. He has done this a couple of times on a walk but you can usually encourage him to walk with biscuits or asking him where his ball is.

He doesn't respond to door bells ringing or postmen/women calling. He is a delight in the house.

Buster is a fabulous dog once you get to know and understand him . Looking back after his arrival we should have perhaps given him more space and time to adjust to our house and us. To get the best out of Buster you would need to keep him busy and stimulated. We will miss him when he leaves us as we have become very attached to him.

Sweetie is beautiful 7 year old tan cocker spaniel (28 lbs) girl who is looking for a loving forever home . Sweetie had a rough start to life. She was wandering the streets in Orlando until someone dropped her off at a church about 11 months ago. A wonderful woman took her in and gave her the best care for the last 11 months. Sadly a medical condition has prevented her from caring for Sweetie and she contacted FCCR to find her a loving forever home . Sweetie’s name fits her personality as she is a sweet lovable girl who loves to go for walks, play in the water and pal around with other fur friends . Sweetie is deaf but that does not stop her from anything she wants to do...although we have been told she can hear the refrigerator door open any time of the day-cheese please !!!!!
She knows some hand signals and loves afternoon naps on the couch with her human . Also, Sweetie is fully potty trained and in great health. If interested in adopting Sweetie please message our email to fill out an application
ADOPTION FEE: $400.00
