MOMO & his 2 siblings were rescued after their owner was murdered. The trio had never seen sunshine, other humans or been walked! This set a deep rooted fear of people in them, but at VOSD, our Caregivers helped them come out of their shell. Momo now jumps up to greet people and loves modelling for photos!

MR. G: A CANINE DISTEMPER SURVIVOR. It's common for Canine Distemper survivors to be confused with "rabid" dogs due to a constant jaw and head twitch. They are often abandoned or even beaten to death. Mr. G, a gorgeous German Shepherd, was thrown out of his home because of this. Confused, lost and misunderstood, he finally found refuge in VOSD, where he is pampered with love, long walks and spa sessions.

A high energy and ever-cheerful dog, Husna has never let a human’s cruelty get in the way of her happiness. She loves playing with other doggos at VOSD and her superpower is her spring-like feet that let her jump around like a goat!

GUDDAN: AN ABANDONED PET SHIH TZU, she was found on the streets of Mumbai, dragging her hind legs and presumed to be paralysed. When she reached VOSD, X-rays revealed that she could recover with a lot of dedicated treatment. 2 years later, she now runs on all fours and jumps onto a chair for a break when she gets tired of chasing Rottweilers and Mastiffs!

Abandoned at birth because of heavily deformed legs, in her 7 years at VOSD, she's survived renal failure, critical internal abdominal ruptures and many other scares. Some of the most timid dogs have grown up in her protection because she befriended them. This large goofball also loves playing fetch!

NAMAK: A MUDHOL HOUND, who was rescued with his brother - Kala Namak, when they were just a week old & hand raised by VOSD Founder, Rakesh Shukla. Behind Namak's mischievous spirit is a story of survival -he suffered a painful condition called osteomyelitis (when large abscesses forms in joints). With the right medical care and lots of love, he overcame it and now runs free like the wind!

SHAHRUKH: THE BLIND, BRAIN-DAMAGED PUPPY RESCUED FROM DEATH ROW. He is a pedigree cocker spaniel. A breeder wanted to euthanise him as he would fetch no money. A kind Vet wanted him to have a chance at a good life, so took him in instead & surrendered him to VOSD. Bad breeding conditions in India, result in a lot of puppies being born with genetic disorders. Today, Shahrukh lives a happy, carefree life!

HOPE: THE HANDICAPPED, HAPPY PUPPER, who was 4 months old when he was attacked by stray dogs & became paralysed waist below. Loved dearly by his foster family, he was surrendered to VOSD to ensure he received dedicated care. Pampered by the VOSD Caregivers, he makes his displeasure known if anyone passes by without petting him (taking photos of him doesn’t count as you can see!) Pictured on the left is COMET: THE CUDDLER, who was once untouchable. Hard to imagine now, right?!

An abandoned pet dog, he was rescued with a skin infection so severe that he was hairless. For 2 years, he was too afraid to let anyone near - that is, until the VOSD Caregivers were able to help him learn to trust again. Completely transformed now, he wants to be cuddled constantly!

KANAPPA: THE SURVIVOR, has survived more horrors than what most encounter in one lifetime. He lost an eye because of a fight; then survived a fall from the 4th floor and successfully beat Cancer too. He also survived being shot in the head with a poisoned bullet. Deaf & 13 years old now - he is one of the calmest dogs I have ever met!

Meet SASSY: THE BLIND DOG, who was rescued when she was 5 years old with both her eyes popping out. She underwent an emergency eye enucleation surgery and is completely blind. Despite all that she has endured, she is an incredibly loving, friendly dog with a 'sassy' personality and makes sense of the world perfectly well with her sharp nose & ears.

She survived an horrific train accident (at a time when she was nursing 6 puppies) & a subsequent triple amputation. Today, the only leg she deems redundant - is her un-hurt, now 'longer' leg! She adores her 'Papa' & is the Mama of her pack at VOSD Dog Sanctuary, Bangalore.

Ginger
Rescued Indie.

Have you ever been let down by a human?
‘Rescue dogs’ know how that feels better than anyone else.

Rescue dogs also know when they have been rescued and they love their humans all the more for it. Do you remember the gratitude you felt for someone who was there for you, when everything seemed hopeless?

Unlike humans, dogs don’t get to choose where they want to live. They can’t work their way up a ladder to afford a better lifestyle. They can’t buy food. They simply depend on the kindness of strangers to have their life changed around. Not all dogs get that lucky. But if you get a chance, speak to the humans who have rescued dogs. Most will tell you about how it wasn’t only the dog who got rescued - the dog rescued them too.

Cinnamon.

Cinnamon and Ginger both had a litter of puppies weeks ago. 9 out of 10 puppies have already found loving homes.

One of Ginger’s puppies is still looking for a home - incidentally- she looks more like Cinnamon than Ginger.

Introducing beautiful Ginger.

Like her sibling - Cinnamon, Ginger also has Gaddi genes. When this photograph was taken, unknown to us, a handful of puppies were taking form inside her tummy.

She has had a beautiful litter of puppies - who came in all shades of golden brown to black! As a testament to their cuteness, within days, all found loving homes. Only 1 girl puppy is still waiting for a forever family to find her. Incidentally, Ginger’s puppy looks more like Cinnamon’s puppy! Nature works in mysterious ways. :)

If you have a puppy, you should wait 1-2 years before starting rigorous physical exercise for your dog? The goal is wait until their growth plates are closed.

Ironically, some of my favourite moments from Pet Photography shoots, are often the moments where everyone has forgotten about the camera.
Like this one.

As the family was getting ready for a family ‘Pawtrait’ (as I like to call it!), Pepper leaned in for some affection from her ‘Dogfather’ while showered some on Cinnamon, in front of her. The bond they all shared was unmissable.

So much is said, when absolutely nothing is actually said.

Introducing Cinnamon •
(We didn’t know at the time, but Cinnamon had a handful of puppies in her tummy when this photograph was captured!).

Cinnamon has ‘Gaddi’ genes - as is displayed when she casually stands on top of car roofs for a better vantage point - to see across the walls of her home! For those new to the term - ‘Gaddi’ dogs are Indian dogs that are native to the Himalayan region.

As with Gaddis, she is as gentle as she is fiercely protective of what is hers - her family and her share of cuddles!
