A cool Marion co Syspila with a neat zipper pattern. I have a nice group of these that will breed in 2026. How many years will it take me to make a completely “unzipped” Milk?

I was planning on making a longer form video showing how I pack a snake up to be shipped, however, I was running short on time yesterday, but I still wanted to take a moment to document the process I use.

1. I always start with a brand new and unused reptile shipping box from Redline Shipping.

2. I place a 1 to 2 sheet layer of new unprinted packing paper in the bottom to provide plenty of cushion in between the animal and the ground.

3. Animals are always packed in new deli cups with clean bedding with the lid, securely taped on and the label from the animals enclosure fixed to the cup.

4. I will then wrap the deli cup in packaging paper and place it into the box ensuring that it fits snuggly.

5. When shipping during mild weather in the winter time I will use a phase pack soaked in hot water, and then wrapped in packaging paper to provide a gentle heating effect instead of the sometimes erratic temperature fluctuations seen with the traditional heat packs used in the reptile trade. I’ve been conducting a variety of tests this winter using traditional heat packs, phase packs, and combinations of the two in a variety of different size boxes to see what the temperatures the animals experience in a variety of potential situations may be.

6. Once the phase pack is secured in the box, I will place the invoice, my business card, and of course, some free stickers on top.

7. Then the top Styrofoam lid goes on. I always make sure that the lid fits without popping up or having to be pushed down.

8. Of course a nice touch, I think a lot of breeders should add (this was not an original idea of my own), is adding a thank you card that the customer sees when they open the box.

9. Once the shipping label, Lacey act, declaration, and of course, more stickers are added to the box and it is properly sealed. It’s off to FedEx! I prefer to make sure to drop animals off at FedEx as late as possible, especially during the winter and summer when temperature extremes are more frequent.

Everyone has really been enjoying the tin background series, so here’s one of my Duval co, Texas Annulata. Should I try and make this my standard background moving into next season? Lord I knows I have all types of tin in the garage I can cut a stage off before I lay it!

A beautiful female F3 La Garita, Costa Rica Stuart’s Milk I produced this year. I was going to hold her back but I think I’ll move her to another sophisticated Milkhead. La Garita locale animals are still very rare in the hobby and as adults are very impressive. This girls parents can easily suck down a small rat and are among the largest Milks in my collection

The “Splotched” gene originally popped up in Sinaloans and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. This girl is directly from Bob Applegate’s original stock and is as pure as they get within the realm of Sinaloan morphs.
