Welcome back, Zeke! 🥰 He has quite a story and before we share, we’d like to start by saying that absolutely ZERO hate comments will be tolerated. They will simply be deleted and the commenter will be blocked. Zeke’s owners understand where these situations went wrong, they have taken accountability and are making wonderful, responsible decisions moving forward.
We also feel it’s important to say this:
It’s okay if you as a dog owner fall off the “dog training bandwagon”. We will always be here with a hand to get you back on and rocking again. LIFE HAPPENS. We’re all human. Give yourselves some grace.
Okay, back to Zeke. 🤗
Zeke’s family reached out last week with concerning news. A message no dog trainer wants to receive for any dog.. let alone one of their favorite past training pups.
“He bit my 2 year old daughter.”
After a long talk and lots of details shared, his owners disclosed that life got busy, life got real and social interactions between the dogs and kids got… messy. Although the bite was scary and did break skin, it was minor and the intention was clear.
He didn’t want to hurt her. He was uncomfortable, tried to escape the situation and couldn’t.
She thought she was just playing and hugging on her dog. Sitting on him, pulling his lips, ears and hanging on his neck/shoulders was normalized and never seen as an issue because “he always tolerated it so well”.
For the family’s privacy, I’ll leave it there.
Again, no hate comments will be tolerated. We are moving forward positively, mending and creating healthier relationships. Onward and upward.
He is a well natured, forgiving dog with a very friendly personality and we have already seen improvements in anxious behavior by implementing boundaries and advocation.
It’s important for us as dog owners and parents to advocate for our dogs and children. Just because the dog has the ability to tolerate, doesn’t mean they should have to and it also doesn’t mean that that tolerance isn’t going to run out at some point.
You want to be the one to tell your children how to interact appropriately with dogs. You want to be the one who lays the boundaries down.
You and your dog don’t want it to be them who have to advocate for themselves.
Let’s set our dogs and our kiddos up for success!
Welcome back, Zeke 💪🏼 let’s get back to work!
