Did you know rabbits and most other small animals need their nails clipped regularly the same way cats and dogs do ? We recommend checking your pets nails every couple of weeks and trimming them if necessary being sure to avoid the quick ( a blood vessel in the nail). If you are unsure how to do this please ask the help of a professional to do it for you as if done incorrectly can result in uncontrollable bleeding.
Long nails might be fashionable for us, but not for your rabbits...
As it’s , we’re putting our foot down on nail health, which is just as important as dental and gut health.
Overgrown nails can be extremely uncomfortable for your rabbits and can cause a variety of health issues. Usually, nails should be clipped level with their fur (with the exception of Rex rabbits).
Rabbits living in a small and confined spaces (such as in a hutch) cannot wear down their nails naturally through foraging and digging as they would in the wild.
Rabbits living in hutches at the back of a garden are statistically more likely to be ‘forgotten about’, resulting in little to no check-ups and ending up looking like this poor bun here.
While we understand that not all rabbits are neglected, the necessity of nail clipping is not common knowledge to all rabbit owners.
Our message is plain and simple: keep them clipped, keep them clean, keep them healthy.
