Dogs are governed by instinct. Everything about them is simple. They don't plot and think and plan like humans do.

Humans have instinct but our behavior is not dictated by it. We are the most complicated animals on the planet. 🫠

It is helpful to understand that everything your dog does, they do because either they feel like they have to or because it yields a favorable result.

When it comes to dogs, keep it simple. If things feel complicated, consider the possibility that you just haven't found the right path yet.

Stay the course. Everything is figure-out-able.

I never tell anyone to do anything.

My goal is present information as objectively as possible and allow owners to choose.

This shot is from a community class. The owner came to class with a long leash and a flat buckle collar. Her dog Babka was energetically all over the place- leading and calling the shots.

I explained the leader follower concept and how the tools we use greatly impact our ability to lead and communicate with our dogs.

She and her partner left with a feeling empowered and elated. They could finally walk Babka in a controlled fashion- meaning everyone's lives got bigger.

Nobody gets a dog to make their life harder or smaller- but that's what often happens when we don't have the right information or support.

Instead of posting the flattering picture of all of us on zoom, figured I would share a hint of the gratitude PLB students expressed after spending 90 min with Millie of this afternoon.

One of the biggest things that initially drew me to Millie was her humility. She engages in an entirely non judgemental, curious and relatable way. If there were official ambassadors for this industry, she would be one of them.

Each round of the Pack Leader Blueprint program includes three 90 min Q and A sessions with reputable professionals in the field.

We check our ego at the door in this program and welcome any insight that helps students and dogs. There is not one way to train dogs and every dog is different and needs a tailored approach. Plus, multiple experienced, wise minds looking at a situation will always trump a single perspective.

Teach them to color within the lines before taking liberties like this.

I don’t believe in black and white statements like “a dog should never be on the bed”. That said, space is a resource- your dog should not feel ENTITLED to be in your intimate space like this. If they do, there is a boundary issue. Upon invitation though, different story.

And if their behavior sucks after being allowed liberties like this, pull the privilege.

If you have that inner knowing and haven’t found the golden ticket yet, it is because dog psychology hasn’t been the foundation of your education.

I accept your shout out and raise you another 🙂

For real though, Cindy is one of several Pack Leader Blueprint alumni who are taking their knowledge and skill set out and paying it forward to their community.

Cindy, who is an elementary school teacher herself, organized a monthly pack walk for the other teachers at her school. To nobody’s surprise, she received outstanding feedback and engagement. 👏

The biggest reward for me in doing this work is to see others truly become empowered in their interactions and understanding of dogs. I believe you really know what you are doing when you can effectively lead others through the work, and that is exactly what Cindy is doing. 🙂

I train dogs, but above all else I am a human trainer. The real magic for me is seeing the human transform- not the dog.

A dog will transform if you give it the appropriate support and information, but the sustainability of that transformation is fully contingent on the humans and surrounding environment’s capacity to continuing to nurture that growth.

Dog trainers that don’t train humans as well are spitting into the wind. 💨🌬

Our dogs are ALWAYS communicating something. Whether we hear is a reflection of how well we understand their language and how well we are listening.

This is not a boo hoo poor us post.

This is a holy crap check this out and LEARN SOMETHING post.

That’s Pancake, semi passed out drooling up a storm. She has seizures, big big ones and then gradations of them (seizures don’t always look like you think they do).

I could tell all day something was a touch off cause she whined a few times and she drooled a little earlier. Then tonight came the crying in the kennel and me opening it to find a puddle of drool.

Once again, dogs are ALWAYS communicating something. Most of us don’t hear their communication because we don’t speak “dog” very well.

But we can learn, and understanding them makes navigating stuff like this much more simple. Simple doesn’t mean easy, but simple is simple.

Who is leading who in your relationship?

Everything we do means something do a dog.

With some dogs the details matters a little less, but rest assure that ALL dogs are always reading the environment and taking information in from how things unfold around them.

I have the same expectations for every dog, even if they aren’t pushy or issue ridden. On the walk they are beside or behind me.

Hi.

Our names are Ridge and Pancake. We are here to help people feel more empowered and joyful in their relationship with their dog.

Through personal responsibility and an understanding of dog psychology, no matter what your situation is, things can get better.

Every few months we offer a nine week mentorship course on dog psychology to help people overcome issues and simply create a better understanding and deeper bond with their dogs. This is done through education, accountability and community support. All of it is valuable, but the most valuable aspect is the power of the pack. All levels are welcome.

Ridge happens to be trans. It has nothing to do with anything other than it is a part of who he is, and when we don’t own all the parts of ourselves, they then own us. This page is not political.

Additionally, it makes sense to mention this because dogs could not care less about how the human world perceives Ridge. What they do care about, however, is Ridge’s energy. Fortunately Ridge is in recovery and happier than he has ever been.
