Of course, the Hollyhill Miniature Shetland Ponies will be helping us with this hands-on practical day which will include lots of opportunities to tick off those Pony Stars units in both the Shetland Strider and Dartmoor Dazzlers challenge books.

We will be covering all aspects of winter pony care including grooming, stable care, feeding, rugs and pony care and handling.

We will have special Canter Club awards to give out during the day. We will also provide snacks and drinks. And of course, no winters day on the yard would be complete without hot chocolate 😉
Children are welcome to bring their own snacks but please ensure that snacks do not contain nuts.
Please advise us of any food allergies prior to arrival.

🐎 Discovering the types of tack and equipment needed to go Show Jumping

🏇 Designing and building our own Show Jump courses

🏅 And of course, we host our very own Show Jumping Teams competition... with the use of "Nobby" the Hobby Horse 🐴

🥪☕️🍰 Complete with afternoon tea with outer friends, what a fabulous morning!!

Very late post following on from our Canter Club Own-A-Pony Morning on 2nd June 🥰
🐎💛☘️💩💜🥕🍎🩷🧽🪣🧡🧹🥾🩵🐎

What an amazing morning we had developing our Stable Management skills.

We had a go at all aspects of pony care including mucking out, making feeds and haynets, preparing clean drinking water for the ponies and keeping the yard looking spotless (thank you to the mums who joined in and got sweeping 👌🧹)

We also made sure that Miniature Shetland Ponies 'Amy', 'Romeo' and 'Echo' looked and felt fabulous after their lovely grooms.

As well as yard safety and being kind we also learned about other, not so common items often used in pony care. Our Canter Clubbers worked their socks off 🥰

Some of our members have now completed their first level of the BHS Pony Stars Awards and are ready to move up onto the next stage!

If your child is one that's ready to move up, please request an order form from Bekki Male Horse and Rider Training to place an order for the next book and awards pack.

As these superstars move up, it makes room in the Shetland Strider Group for new members.

🐴⭐️ What a lovely morning with a fabulous group of our Pony Stars members 🐴⭐️

Today we completed our "Farm Animals" tasks from our Challenge Books.

The Nunswell Miniature Shetland Ponies "pretended" to be afraid of farm animals. So we thought about how we would handle each situation, keeping ourselves, our ponies and others safe.

We also looked at farm signs and what they meant as well as how we can be respectful of farmers and their livestock when we are out and about with our ponies.

Then we got stuck into some farmyard crafts in the warm and dry. We made some super farm animal masks 🐄🐖🐓🐐 Can you spot who is behind each mask??

Well done to everyone who came today, continuing to achieve your sticker and badge awards.
Such a pleasure to work with such polite, enthusiastic young equestrians 🐴⭐️

🐴⭐️That's a wrap on our last Pony Stars Challenge day for 2022 🐴⭐️

We stayed indoors, out of the cold, for a morning of craft activities.

Our Canter Clubbers completed their Pet Protector - Pet Care 1🌟 and 2🌟🌟 challenges by creating pony care information leaflets, cutting out pictures and info from old horse and pony magazines.

Then we got busy making super Christmas gifts and cards for our ponies 🎅

Thank you to those who could make it today (we had a couple unfortunately pull out due to ill-health. We'll make sure you get the crafty bits to complete at home once you're feeling better)

THANK YOU to everyone who has continued to support Cannock Chase Canter Club this year.

We will be taking on new members for the start of 2023. Membership runs until your child has completed their challenge book (no time limit)

️🔸️🐴⭐️Todays Pony Stars Superstars⭐️🐴🔸️

These incredible young equestrians (and some marvellous grown-ups) walked a very hilly route on Cannock Chase to achieve our countryside explorers awards 😀

We followed the blue "bridleway" arrows and used our maps to find our way around. We've learned how to respect other countryside users, to keep to the countryside code and how to be prepared before we venture out with our ponies 👍

🐴⭐️ Well done to Betsy, Tamira, Minnie, Sophie, Elsie, Mia and Ember 🐴⭐️

🐴⭐️ Covering topics on the Countryside, Exploring Off Road and Navigation 🧭

We will be map reading, exploring potential riding routes, recognising countryside symbols and signs as well as learning about being prepared, courteous and staying safe when we are out riding with our ponies 🐎

This session will be out and about, meeting at Castle Ring. The activities will be on foot and so children will be required to wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Bekki Male Horse and Rider Training will be providing the training for the day. Bekki is a BHS Accredited Professional Coach, fully insured and qualified with over 20 years experience of training horses and riders as well as teaching children in schools.

Children can be dropped off for the duration of the visit, however 1 parent per child are welcome to accompany their child if they wish.

🟢 Helping Hero - Clean Up

For our Shetland Striders who attended the training on 15th April, this is your chance to complete the Helping Hero unit and earn your badge!
All Pony Stars members are welcome.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FOR SHETLAND STRIDERS ONLY

Come in yard clothes and boots as we will be working around the yard. Please send drinks bottles, coats, sun protection as necessary depending on the weather.

🟢 We will be running a mini-first aid course in line with the Shetland Striders syllabus. This will include the role of a first aider, contents of a first aid kit, applying bandages and how to stay safe whilst assessing a casualty. The learning will be fun focussed and age appropriate.

🟢 We will also cover all of the challenges in the Helping Hero - Clean Up topic. We'll be designing posters to promote recycling and working together behind the scenes of the yard feed room to create a clean, healthy horsey kitchen for the ponies and the yard staff.

Limited spaces (although potentially a second group could be added if numbers warrant)

Everyone should have their times, but they're also listed below for reference.

Lovely small groups of just 2 riders in each session, so not much standing around 👍 (sorry in advance to the runners of the lead rein riders 😜)

Please remember to pick up any pony poo's from the lorry park before you leave.
There are toilet facilities plus a coffee room at Apple Tree and the weather is looking lovely, so we should all be in for a really lovely morning.

Dress is casual riding wear. Hats must be to standard and well fitting. Body protectors are advised but not compulsory.

I've got the lovely Emily, one of my teen riders coming along to help us with poles and any fidgety ponies 😉 which means there's an extra pair of hands available if anyone needs help.

Half way through the half term week and it's safe to say that Pony Stars is a hit!!!

That's a wrap on another busy day. The weather improved this afternoon and I even managed to coach under some glorious sunshine 🌞

The damp start didn't deter this mornings Pony Stars at our Stable Management session. It was an absolute privilege to spend the morning with a wonderful group of polite, happy, clever young equestrians 🐎

Shetland Ponies Romeo, Echo and Amy love it when little people come to play 🥰

Day off tomorrow to play with my own horses, then back to it for a busy second half of the half term week 😁
