That is a nice way of waking up. When I woke up I directly went to check the incubator and saw 2 chicks and at that moment the 3th one broke out of its shell also. 🥰🥰

There we go! The first batch of eggs from my new rooster just went in their last stage before they will hatch. I started collecting already eggs after he was just 4 days here and boy o boy, he does not disappoint ar all! Out of the 23 eggs I layed in, only 1 (!) Was not fertilised! 4 embryo died in the first few days of growing so we are going into the hatching stage with 18 eggs! I can't wait for them to hatch!

Today the chicks checked out their chick parc for the first time. Here they are safe for magpies and crows and they can enjoy life with grass, sun, wind and all they can find. In the nights they still sleep in their safe crate.

And the next reason for the design of the chick box. Until they are big enough to not fit trough the mesh of the panels for their chick run I can still get them on the grass and in the. Today is their first day on the grass and they love it 🥰🥰

As promised, here some of the other chicks. I am super excited to see how they will grow up. The araucana chicks have all a different varietie of the partridge color. Some have more black -, others grey - or even red tones.
If there are a lot of hens, I will get a real hard time to pick the one(s) I keep. The 5 barnie cockerels will stay for sure until they are old enough to make a good choise for the future breeding.

The chicks are already 2 weeks old again! This little one is the only of the Araucana chicks with the characteristic "toef" on its cheeks. I am crossing my fingers it is a pullet because she will be a keeper!

It has been way to quiet here for a long time. Sadly fluffy passed away almost 1 month ago, in our attempt to keep his genes I filled up the incubator to the max with the eggs of the girls. So instead of only 30 Araucana eggs also 21 barnevelder eggs went into the incubator. Because fluffy matured slow he was not really active yet so I only hoped and dit not expect anything.
But today I can super happy share with you that not only do we have araucana chicks hatched but we also have 5 beautiful barnevelder cockerels to choose from for next year. I so much hope they don't only have the looks of their dad but also his gentle character.
Soon the new rooster for this year will arrive and fertile eggs and chicks will be available again 😁

I am so proud to anounce my new breeding rooster and the young chicken that stay with us this year!
Meet Fluffy, the new rooster. He still needs to grow a lot but he has the whole winter for that. He is a very gentle and sweet boy, he came as a 2 week old chick here from Holland with his big brother and has been growing up at my place together with the Marans and Olive egger chicks I did hatch this spring. Out of those chicks for now I decided to keep 2 Marans hens and 2 Olive egger hens. Aren't they beauty's?
For now the stunning Olive egger rooster stay's at the farm also. In time we will decide if he goes and all hens stay together during the summer or he will go seperate with the Marans and Olive egger hens.

Goodmorning!
Today the chickens made me very happy! Their egg production starts to become better again after all the cold weather so I finaly could check their fertility.
Today I did do the final check and I am extremely happy to tell all the eggs I used to test were fertilized

Het leven van de kippen zit nog altijd vol met eerste keer ervaringen. Zo lag er vandaag voor het eerst sneeuw en hun reactie daarop heb ik natuurlijk gefilmd voor jullie.

Vandaag hebben ze hun 1e groente aa. Stuk gehad. Tot nu toe had ik alles klein gesneden gegeven. Vandaag de 1e keer op deze manier. Volgens mij is het een succes!

Wat een joekels. De hennen leggen nu alle 4 denk ik. Soms geven ze een dubbel dooier ei maar nu was dat zelf 2 dagen achter elkaar en het grootste ei zelfs met een record gewicht van 84 gram :o Arme kip 😅

Vandaag onze 1e cake gemaakt met onze eigen eitjes. En yummie wat was hij lekker! Wel was hij anders van kleur doordat onze dooiers zoveel donkerder zijn dan de eitjes van de supermarkt.

27 Juli 2021 11 weken oud Het heeft eventjes geduurd voordat ik het op film heb maar hier het bewijs. De 1e haan begint te kukkelen. En wat een geluid haha. Het zal vast ooit goed komen met zijn stem, voor nu klinkt het nog nergens naar maar is het o zo schattig <3

11 Juli 2021 Om ze langzaam meer en meer te laten wennen aan de ruimte die ze uiteindelijk krijgen mogen ze soms eventjes los lopen. Dior bewijst ook dat zij een goede hoeder is voor de kipjes en loopt ertussen door alsof ze opgegroeid is tussen de kippen <3

7 Juli 2021 En toen kregen ze zelfs nog meer ruimte! De paarden deden van de bast van de fruitbomen eten. Om de bomen te beschermen moesten ze afgezet worden. Dus waarom dan niet meteen een ren voor de kippen ervan maken dacht ik. Als luikje van de ene naar de andere kant hebben we dit oude rooster herbruikt. Zo kan het ook afgesloten worden als het nodig is.

25 mei 2021 Ondanks dat vandaag een verdrietige dag is omdat het kleine kuikentje overleden is, is het elke keer weer genieten om de kuikens lekker bezig te zien. Mijn "training" lijkt zijn vruchten af te werpen en de kuikens reageren op mijn "chickie chickie" roep.
