I know how difficult it can be to lose a pet, especially one that lived a long time. This memorial was designed to help my aunt and cousin cope with the loss of little Luckie and remember him in a good way. Luckie will be missed, but hopefully this piece will help bring fond memories back to mind and lift some of the sadness of his passing.

What Items Should You Put your Pet’s Keepsake Shadow Box?

A memory box or a keepsake box is a sweet way to store memories for your beloved pet who has gone on to the Rainbow Bridge. What items should you add to your pets keepsake shadow box? These are just a few ideas. If you have any other items to share, please comment below. I can’t wait to hear your suggestions.


1. Collar and leash and tags

2. Paw Print - Many vet clinics will offer to make a paw print keepsake as part of their euthanasia services. These are typically done in clay, but they may be done as ink on paper as well. This is a great addition to the keepsake shadow box.

3. Toys - Most pets have several well-loved toys to play with. Some people might think a slobbery tennis ball could just get thrown away, but a dog owner may be unable or unwilling to part with it. You can place any toys that your dog loved in the memory box, even something like a chewed-up bone.

4. Photographs - One day, you’ll enjoy looking back at them and reminisce about the fun times you shared with your dog.

5. Sympathy cards - When your fur baby passes on, you may receive several sympathy cards or letters with words of condolence and pet loss quotes.

9. Blankets

10. Ashes - Many people opt to get their pets cremated, but when the time comes, they’re not ready to scatter the ashes. Place a small vial of the ashes in the memory box for safekeeping.

11. Locks of hair/feathers - You can even incorporate them into a bouquet of faux flowers for a beautiful memento.

About 8 months ago I noticed a little bump on Dancer’s little bum. The vet advised me to watch it and bring her back of it got any bigger. Well it did and I had it removed last week. The vet Southern Oaks Animal Hospital said it was a soft tissue sarcoma, a type of cancer. Fortunately, it was low grade and her prognosis is great. Please be vigilant about your pets health and don’t ignore something you think is a small issue. Dancer is recovering well from her surgery and is back to her old self 😊

Dancer would like to thank everyone for the prayers and well wishes. Her dental cleaning and minor surgery to remove a cyst went well. Mommy took her to the park for a walk and now she’s ready to get home to chill out.
