Hey guys,
So a bit of an update, I am booking way into the fall right now (mid oct onward to Nov, Dec is mostly full now) unless cancellations come up.
With that being said, yes I am aware there are "groomers" popping up here and there.
I keep my clients on a schedule, i'm not really into clients who "groomer hop" so if you go somewhere else for a "cheaper price"or for some other reason (which is always your right to) keep in mind, switching means I take on someone new (I keep a list) in your place. It is not easy to get back on with me and if you do get back on with me it is as a new client so any older pricing that may have been there prior due to a schedule we kept or whatnot is null and void at that point, it'd be whatever my current starting point is.
If you do miss an appt and have prebooked ones further ahead and really need to get into someone new these are a few key things you should be considering.
-All groomers are different, we ALL have different ways of doing things and different styles so if you don't like what another may have done, I am not necessarily going to be able to fix it the first time around, sometimes coat may require some growth.
-Are they trained??? Grooming is a hands on job and your best groomers are going to be hands on trained, grooming is more than just clipping, it involves a whole lot of skill, safety procedures and various cleaning procedures.
-Are they registered as a business (not someone randomly in their backyard) and insured? Things happen.
-Are they trained and able to handle tougher situations? (Ie snapping, anxiety, some aggression etc) remember- someone who isn't trained or experienced with this is at a much higher risk of getting hurt or a dog getting hurt, dogs are individuals just like us they aren't a one size fits all.
-Are they knowledgable? Groomers are your first line of defense on changes in your dog (one very good reason to stay with the same groomer and not groomer hop) we notice things new that may not have been there last time, we pay attention to some behaviour changes with different things and will let you know there could be underlying problems, we know your dogs and we care! we are not vets and those who know me know I ALWAYS refer back to the vet but as groomers we should be knowledgable enough to know when somethings amiss and it may be time to make a vet visit.
-Grooming is not just playing with puppies all day, it is a skilled trade, it is a ton of work, it is physically demanding, it is emotionally straining at times,it can be heartbreaking, it sometimes requires quick hands and it requires knowledge of how to deal with various situations, again, not all dogs are the same.
These are all things to ponder when you are taking your dog to a groomer whether it's me or not. If you can't get into me or if you need to quickly get in somewhere before your next appt because you missed one I can recommend some, I have no problem doing that, there are some wonderful groomers in our area, but i'd love to see the dogs remain safe because grooming is and always has been an unregulated field of work, it is up to us professionals to see to it that we continue our training etc and up to owners to ensure they are taking their beloved pets to someone professional.
😊
