We are a small team of volunteers who dedicate our time to parrots/birds
welfare, we offer a place where people can turn to with any Bird/parrot
concerns, we offer help, advice, education and we take in any parrot/bird
that needs our help, we work with, reabilitate and can secure any birds
future for life through our adoption scheme. Staffs with a team of foster
carers. We cover the whole cou

REHOMING PROCEDURE

Here at 'Happy Wings' all birds under go on arrival an assessment period of
at LEAST four weeks to assess what type of home would suit them the best. During this time we will give them the opportunity to mix with other
parrots, be handled by men and women, find anything they are fearful of, we
will make adjustments to their diet and introduce new foods, work on
behavioural issues, they will also see our avian vet for a check up and to
be microchipped to Happy Wings. The bird will only go up for homing where we feel ready, so the assessment
period may be extended. When ready to be homed we will add a rehoming thread for the bird. It will
ask interested parties to send a pm to Debbie Crawford briefly outlining
the home you can offer with a number so your application can be discussed
in due course. We will wait a week or so to give people a chance to apply before speaking
to everyone in turn, and this will normally narrow things down to one or
two people they may be spoken to again at length. Once we have decided we will offer the bird to that person subject to a
homecheck. You will then be asked to enter into a rehoming contract and a rehoming fee
will be requested to continue our work. Please note if at any time you can no longer keep the bird it must be
returned to the rescue as legal ownership is retained by us via the chip. PLEASE NOTE:

We will NOT discuss a bird Re adoption until it's assessment is finished.

REHOMING POST
Here we have the three musketeers, all siblings from a pair of our aviary quakers, there is a seperate post explaining how this accident came about 😳.
They were with their parents in the nest till 6 weeks old when one jumped out and the parents lost interest in all three at that point.
They were handfed from then on indoors until weaned. They now eat a pellet diet with fresh food daily and occasional seed .
Theo are very tame ( Parker and Yoda ) Scooby is the oldest and the first to do everything , he is cheeky and always in mischief and is currently quite bitey but I do believe it’s a stage and he will revert back to being happy to be handled.
They are currently sharing one cage but will be put into seperate cages for a few days before going to their new homes
They have all been vetchecked but not microchipped as too small. They will all have a cage to bring with them.

INTRODUCTION POST
Meet Happy, an 18 month cockatiel who arrived yesterday.
Happy is a very tame little bird and we’re told he loves to come and sit with you.
Happy came in with Skylar the budgie but we don’t believe he’s met many other birds of his own kind.

Please don’t ask to adopt Happy at this time as he needs assessed in foster and a health check at our vets as per usual protocol.

This is Skylar the budgie who arrived with us yesterday. He is 2 to 3 years old. Skylar is not tame and is love with the other budgie in the mirror 🤣.
We will be assessing Skylar in due course to see if we believe he’d be best suited to an aviary or as a pet.

ANOTHER NEW ARRIVAL
last one for tonight folks lol!
Meet Dill, a four year old quaker who was surrendered today urgently as owner is poorly .
Dill is not hand tame, I know her history from reading her ring, which matches more than half of our aviary quakers and I've made the decision to integrate her into our quaker aviary.
She is in need of a bit of beauty treatment first though as she has loads of new pin feathers !

Today is vets day. We have Jojo the little quaker who arrived after suffering a rat bite to his eye and his big forward facing toe.
Unfortunately The toe is going to need to be amputated, it is dead and his other toe is crossing over it impeding his walking. He has no feeling in it so he’s in no pain. It will be removed in the new year.

Olly the cockatoo was microchipped and had an X-ray if his foot while under anaesthetic with no abnormalities found, it’s worth noting he’s not chewed it since half hour after arriving. He’s not had any pain meds for 4 days now but has still left it alone so well monitor f he returns to it. He sounded like he was being murdered in the vets bless him. No picture of olly from vets as so not to upset him. The vet said Olly is a bit underweight, I will work on increasing it but it’s not uncommon for cockatoos to be a bit on the thin side and he is a bit of a stress bird.

Walter had health check, nails done and a microchip and was found to be in great condition.

REHOMING........ Flying Feathers are now seeking a forever home for.....Meet 'Molly & Rocco'.....AKA Mr & Mrs.....a beautifully bonded pair of Senegals, both came in to rescue separately due to owners change in circumstances & fell in love, Molly is a friendly little lady however does not like other birds apart from her husband Rocco & in foster has been known to chase & attack other birds & be very aggressive, Mr Rocco is a lovely boy but can take a dislike at times to Men, he came in pretty plucked but is now feathering back up nicely
Both birds will come equipped with their cage & toys

We are specifying that these birds go to a home preferably with no other birds or if so kept in different rooms & given separate cage time out

Can you offer Molly & Rocco a forever home??

REHOMING THREAD
This is Bob and Polo. Bob is 44 and absolutely tiny for a grey at just 320g, also the darkest I've ever seen.
He doesn’t step up instead waits for you to scoop him up without clinging onto the bars quite happy to be carried.
He loves to sit out his stand or cagetop and chatters away all the time. Very friendly little guy! His language can be a bit colorful on the odd occasion and he did a good Bobby Flay impression while at the vets 😂😂😂

His friend is Polo who is 23 years old. He is an escapologist and will need locks on all his doors or he’s out the minute you turn your back. He’s a fun little bird. He seems to enjoy hanging upside down too!
He likes to sit out on his cagetop and will fly to get to where he fancies sitting next you can’t relay on him staying where you put him 😂

Both birds came from one home although seperate cages and will not be separated so please don’t ask.
If you feel you could offer this pair the home they need please send us a message

I can’t stop laughing Charlie Macaw (who has never comes off his cage so far) just came waddling into the big bird room , past me and said “just getting you a walnut” as he headed up towards the kitchen area.
The bird is hilarious! I used to say to him when I walked away hold on getting you a walnut and he said the phrase a few times but he’s never set off as if to fetch one himself 😂😂😂😍😍😍

Ladies and gents I need to point something out following a recent event.
Can I just say anyone caught lying over their home situation or their experience with parrots to get a bird they would otherwise not be considered for will be removed from the group.
It really isn't hard with a few questions to discover someone really has no idea about handling the bigger birds or in fact any bird and have told a few lies. No second chances here guys. You get caught you lose our respect and any chance of adopting from us. Thank you.

New bird alert!
We've had a lovely little guy in tonight who was only local to me and altho hugely loved by his mom who’s so upset to let him go her husband has become allergic to him and so they've had to let him go.
He didn’t have to travel and it was quite urgent so we let him come tonight.
He’s a cutie, he’s called Birdy and is around 7 years old. He’s been whistling away in the kitchen while I was having a new light fitted in the birdroom (as it’s dark since the old one broke that’s definately essential ) and he has been whistling to the others making his presence known.
He will sit on your hand etc he is tame, but I’m told it’s on his terms, so we will see how we get on.
I believe I have a stand for his cage in the aviary so will check tomorrow in daylight but the boxez have brought him up to the others level , if it doesn’t fit I have a cage same as Angels he can use while here Instead

MEET HARRY our latest arrival. He is a very much loved 36 year old blue fronted Amazon , gender unnnown.
He has had one owner for over 30 years and I do believe Derek has introduced himself. Sadly after the passing of his wife Derek is leaving the family home and Harry cannot accompany him.
Harry will be under assessment for at least the next 30 days during which he will have a good check with our vet. It is believed he’s totally blind in his left eye .
NO REHOMING APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME THANK YOU .
I’d also like to thank those of you who greeted Derek and reassured him we will take excellent care of Harry 😊

Meet Pumba, a 22 year old grey assumed male who arrived yesterday.
Pumba has had one home in his 22 years and now due to a change in circumstances he’s came in to find a new home.
Pumbas been very well loved and cared for and has had an excellent diet throughout his life. He stepped up straight away for me and has done a couple of times since.
Pumba is already microchipped but is being health checked at the vets as I type.
Please do not ask to rehome him or try to register interest at the moment as he needs to complete his 30 day assessment first.

Meet me, Gin, A stunning African grey which will keep you on your toes & amused

I have recently been returned back to the rescue through no fault of my own & are now looking for another new home

I have always been part of a pair, however Tonic my sister sadly passed away this year, leaving me alone, We had lived together our whole lives in separate cages being sisters from the same clutch

I am 9 years old

I love all my food, pellets and daily fresh fruit & veg

I definitely need a new home with at least 1 other bird, I have never lived without other bird company

I will go & be handled by anyone

I can be abit jumpy & scatty but find once I've settled I am fine, I've had alot of changes recently, I will happily sit with you all day & like to know where you are

I am looking for a home where its slightly quieter & there is someone around majority of the day

meet Bubbles 23 year old male galah cockatoo who arrived a couple weeks ago.
Bubbles owner has sadly passed away a few months ago and he has now been handed over to find a new home.
Bubbles is fully flighted and is tame and friendly. He has slready had his vetcheck where everything seems in order.

This is Riley, a beautiful blue fronted Amazon age and gender female!
Riley adores foraging toys and anything she can hang upside down from of destroy .
She’s very interested in other birds , but with people she mange a head tickle and she will come and sit with you if she sees you have nice treats for her!
Riley’s fosterer Victoria has spen GB several months working with Riley and we would like to see her training be continued in her new home, she is a bundle of energy and so is looking for a home with plenty of attention and out of cage time to keep him occupied.

Two of our resident birds had a new cage today donated by a lovely couple.
These guys have been here for over 18 months now after being seized in connection with a cruelty case.

They have been challenging since they arrived, they can be quite aggressive, but this has improved a lot while here. Either that or I've just got used to it 😂😂!

One problem we've had is Darling is an escapologist and if she gets out she lets Harley out, and she steals the k***s off the food doors from other cages while Harley lets everyone else out 🤣🤣.
So with the double cage Itl be easier to keep them both inside it!

And I know it needs more toys etc, we literally just got it put together for teatime before I have to feed everyone but they have what they needed for tonight

Meet Floydie a 18 year old Amazon, believed male & a stunning boy

Floydie has recently come in to the rescue due to his previous owner/ keeper moving away, her mother has sadly become allergic to him so he's come in looking for a new home

Floydie has been in his last home 10 years

Floydie has gone to the vets today for his health check & microchip

Floydie has started his assessment period today in his foster home so we can establish what kind of home will suit him best

No rehoming applications are being accepted at this time

INTRODUCTION POST
Meet Polly, a 24 year old umbrella who’s gender is not quite decided yet!
His/ her eyes would be black if male or brown with a black pupil if female . His eyes are almost black , but you can just see a black pupil, so I think he’s male.
What a sweetheart, he’s another Cracker but with two wings!
He is very loud though and as normal for brolleys wants attention and will scream for it !
Incredibly sweet bird who wants to climb onto you and be cuddled, you can swing him high, low, upside down etc.
Please understand though for his own benefit and yours when it comes to rehoming he will only go to soneone with cockatoo experience, these are complex birds who if you get it wrong can make your life a misery. It is soooo easy to let them overbond as they just want to be loved and cuddled, a perpetual two year old

I have some sad news that we lost another bird at the end of last week

Charlie, who was a lovely little grey being fostered by Kerry was found Thursday morning at the bottom of his cage.
He was taken straight to a local vets who see birds as he wasn’t in a condition to travel and they confirmed what we already knew, that Charlie was going to pass away and so to prevent further suffering to him they put him to sleep.
Fly high little charlie you will be sadly missed. Thank you Kerry for looking after him while he was with us

NEW ARRIVAL
Meet Bez , he’s an 18 year old blue fronted Amazon who has just came in tonight following the passing of his owner Yesterday.
Bez appears to be in good condition and health but a trip to our parrot vet will confirm that and he will be assessed over the next 30 days as our usual protocol to work out the kind of home he is best suited to .
No messages or home offers regarding Bez for now pleaseuntil he’s been assessed.
For anyone who may be concerned on size of cage that is a travel cage, he had just arrived and has a cage to transfer into.

New boy Sam came out for a look around today . He played on his cage / sat on it for about an hour then I tried to get him to step up on a perch and found he doesn’t do that , he flew off up the birdroom on his maiden flight and then stepped up lovely off the floor once he’d landed onto my hand .
No thought of a bite at all today . Making progress slowly at getting to know him 😊

I am now ready to find myself a new home

I came into rescue care recently due to being a little fighter with my friend

I am very tame & love people, I'm very used to playing with children however has shown alot of aggression toward other birds

I will need a home on my own with no other birds or a home if other birds are there that I'm kept separate & have my own time as I don't like other birds

REHOMING POST Meet Coco. She is around 8 years old now, what a lovely girl she is! She is so sweet natured but please do not be fooled. Coco will manipulate you to get as much time with you as possible. It is extremely important that any new home starts as they mean to go on, with as much time given on a day Umbrellas are like two year old children, she I’ll make sure you know if she feels she hasn’t had the attention and time she expected. Coco has now spent several years with other parrots it cockatoos in the home, and so I’m looking for a home where there are other birds. IMPORTANT there is a criteria set for Coco which will not be debatable so please only apply if you meet ALL the criteria. She needs a detached home as she can be very loud, she needs a home with other parrots, she needs a home where someone is home most of the day and preferably someone with experience. In the wrong hands an umbrella can become a nightmare screaming All hours of be day. Mid you meet the criteria above and would like to be considered for coco please send me a pm.

REHOMING POST This is Kim a 5 year old blue front Amazon. He will need someone that’s very experienced, he’s is still a work in progress. No matter about wing clips, he still flys! He is a sweet guy not sexed. I don’t do DNA sexing. He is very leary but we have had him several months and he is really come a long way and still coming along. I think I have a broken bird?

REHOMING POST I have a male double yellow nape Amazon. I want him to be in a good loving home. His past was a terrible one I want him to have a loving bright happy future. Message me if interested in adopting him

We have a sad story from yesterday. Sometimes I think it helps to show other aspect of our work we don’t post. This little 3 week old baby budgie was found on a fb budgie group. The owner had tried putting toggles on the baby’s legs but they came off both times. She was instead just going to leave this little guy to die 😞, We took him in from one of our volunteers who got him off his owner and he brought to us. We took him to our vets this morning to be examined and hopefully to have his legs splinted. Sadly his one leg would av needed amputated, and the other leg would have needed surgery too. It would not be up to supporting his weight as it would always be less able than normal and so with neither leg being normal it wasn’t to be. Sadly that left only one decision forhim to be euthanised as he was in great pain If another way was viable we’d have got it done but sadly it wasnt and he was put to sleep

Say hello to Shrek, she is a lovely little bird, 16 years old military macaw. Very sweet and was in her previous home for 9 years with a friend of mine. Shrek came in for rehoming through absolutely no fault of her own, it’s sadly a change in circumstances of her owner who was extremely upset to have to rehome her. Shrek likes being around kids and she loves dancing, singing... Shrek has been microchipped and vet checked. Kindly message me if interested in rehoming Shrek
