FYI we all should know about the real conditions at OCAS
This was written by an animal advocate who has been working for a very long time to improve conditions.
🥶🥶🥶🥶☔️💨⛈ today abd tonight in Orlando but what about the dogs at OCAS
Dear Citizens of Orange County Florida your Orange County Animal Services will have you believe that the weather outside may be frightful as it will be heading down to a low of 38 tonight but the dogs will be quite comfortable and warm. (a side not dogs in the Clinic, Isolation are in climate controlled areas as are all the cats) which means the temperature inside may be raised or lowered to accompany the temperature outside.
The building known as 300 the cinder block outdoor no way to create true climate control is where the general population of dogs is housed.
Most recently I requested public records regarding the temperatures and how they keep the dogs warm enough and there was a wonderful post by Friends of Orlando Shelter Pets that was posted regarding the weather and the animals comfort. https://fb.watch/bIliYvrNFM/
Our animal Services reassured everyone that the dogs were taken Care of well they posted such https://www.facebook.com/64777130568/posts/10159596449475569/?d=n
I’m not here to make any claims I am posting the information given and it is up to you the citizens to decide of the dogs of our county who happen to be at the facility are in fact well taken care of and will be warm enough especially as the temperatures plummet once again and will be in the mid to low 30’s overnight.
Her is the information I learned and is readily available to all members of the public,WESH 2 News Orlando Sentinel WFTV Channel 9 News 6 WKMG / ClickOrlando Spectrum News 13 FOX 35 Orlando WUCF TV
It might behoove you to look into things. I understand there is a new facility that everyone in Public Office your Board of County Commissioners https://www.orangecountyfl.net/BoardofCommissioners.aspx #.YiyknC9On4A
wants to talk about but that is years away I’m interested in now.
I know the answers given by those who support OCAS will give, I’ve heard the facility managers response along with Kennel supervisor and Veterinarian stating that blankets and clothing of any sort is out of the question because there is the very real chance of the animal ingesting pieces of the blanket or clothing it wears, however one of their most recent heavy chewers was given a sweater to wear 24/7 and she did not ingest the item, unfortunately she also was most recently put to death as she was an LCA dog Diba so at least in my un professional eyes it would seem clothing is an option for many dogs and has been offered as donations before but I guess as a whole sale way to help keep the dogs warm in that particular building it is not warranted, as I have no degree I must take them at their word but I have seen other kennels use blankets and clothing to keep their dogs warm so I’m not positive the differences they use it may be they have officers on duty 24/7 I will check into this.
I leave you all with the temperature control logs of January I have them going back to November but that would be too much, I’ve requested February and will add those when receive I will add the climate Control temperature software and gauges installed and where in this post.
Again this is not to bash the community facility but to bring a different perspective and one for me focused on the dogs in general adoption area, I am a advocate who would like changes made and sooner rather than later and not when they move into a new building but rather now. What those changes need to be could be another housing for dogs, changes in Management, more money to the animals in general clothing, officers on duty 24/7 there are many many ways to help or improve the current conditions our dogs live in and the changes mentioned here are just examples, this is your facility and your community you have a say in how things work, I just am passing along information from our County and I am not making inflammatory remarks of any kind everything I am posting has back up by the County itself. Some will say I’m out of context but 53 degrees and 47 degrees in a kennel are not out of context they are facts.
