We’re celebrating 11 years today since we said ‘I do’ and nearly 18 years together 😲 the days really do fly when you’re having fun. I’m not sure how I got so lucky to find a man that not only complements me perfectly but calmly handles all my flower-related shenanigans 🤣

Summertime means sunshine, swimming, family visits and around here, prepping for events.

This coming week will be a busy one so the farm stand will be closed Tuesday the 13th and Thursday the 15th but OPEN today (Friday the 9th) and Friday Aug. 16th instead. And fresh flowers for your weekend is always a good idea ☺️

Writing those dates down really brings it home how fast summer is flying by 😳 Who else is amazed that we’re already part way through August?!?

The wait for the dahlias always seems long, and this year with our cold wet spring this year it actually has been. Unfortunately checking them a million times a day doesn’t make them bloom any faster but I dutifully reaffirm this every year, just in case 😂

Those colours, the shapes, the mesmerizing symmetry; they are so worth the wait.

Varieties:
Salmon Runner (bottom left) Linda’s baby (middle top) Ferncliff Pearl (top right) and a mislabel that blooms first and pumps out loads of flowers all summer and fall, she’s a keeper whatever her name!

Rainy, drizzly summer days demand flowers, don’t you think? A shot of colour to remind us that summer isn’t over just yet despite the grey skies.

The farm stand will be stocked today (Tuesday) and Thursday this week so you can treat yourself or remind someone that you are thinking of them. Flowers say it best, I always think 😉

The stand is stocked with lots of beautiful colour combinations today: strawberry lemonade🍋, very berry 🍓and mango fruit salad🥭. I always like my sweet with a little tart so strawberry lemonade gets my vote, which one is your favourite?

🎶I love July, but it’s the season of the spikes🎶

I have this (slightly modified) song running through my head every time I harvest the snapdragons, foxglove and larkspur that are stealing the show in our bouquets and arrangements these days.

I have a serious soft spot for these linear flowers, also know as spikes in florist speak. They have a grace in their tall willowy form that at 5’4” I’m painfully aware I’ll never manage 🤣

This bronze variety of snapdragon is new to me this year and the colour is amazingly versatile, definitely a new favorite and the foxglove stops me in my tracks every time. Which one is your favourite?

July is kind of an in-between time on a flower farm, the spring flowers are done (until next year peonies 😢) but the summer annuals haven’t quite hit their stride yet. I used to stress about it, worried about not having the right ingredients to make bouquets, with focal flowers being in such short supply. These days these few weeks feel like a calming breath and I kind of revel in it. There is so much anticipation and excitement tied up in all those budding plants ✨

The farm stand will be closed today as we wait for the field to catch up and take a little extra quality time with the kids, they’re growing almost as fast as the flowers are. We will be open again on Thursday and possibly Friday, keep an eye on our stories to stay up to date!

Easily the most magical spot in the field right now, the foxglove with their nodding blooms beg for the curious exploration of little fingers. I am forever charmed by their quiet, whimsical beauty.

I’ll be tucking the first few handfuls of foxglove into bouquets for the farm stand for today. We’re not usually open on Mondays but it seemed like a great way to celebrate an extra long weekend 🎉

We will be open again tomorrow but closed this coming Thursday (July 4th) so come grab an armful filled with these magical woodland beauties and the last peonies of the season 💐

It has been an insanely busy season so far with no time for rest or even sleep most of the time, and sometime burning the candle at both ends (and in the middle if I’m honest) comes back to bite you in the 🍑

The farm will be closed for the next few days as I take a bit of time off to recuperate from pneumonia . I’m hoping to be back up on my feet for more of this ⬆️ for Thursday 🤞

Peony subscription members keep an eye on your email for instructions about this week’s pick ups 💐

It’s been a rough cold and flu season this year, I hope you take the time to rest and stay healthy out there!

We just needed a little sun…they’re finally here 🥰 we’ve been harvesting the first few stems little by little over the last week until it finally turned into a flood 🌊
It’s hard not to love these big luscious beauties and I can’t wait to share them with you at the farm stand tomorrow and with our peony subscription members over the next few weeks.

If you are signed up for our peony subscription keep an eye out for an email over the next couple of days, your first bouquet will be ready this coming week!

It must have been meant to be. A bride whose favourite colour is red, whose favourite flower is the peony and the Red Charm peonies bloomed juuust in time for her big day 🍀❤️

I don’t work very often in this palette but it was such a pleasure to bring this sweet bride’s vision to life. And if I fell a little in love with the rich combination of cranberry and peach myself, well that was no hardship either ☺️

And just like that tulip season is over. The last two late blooming varieties went out in our subscription bouquets this week, the perfect colour compliment to the candy coloured ranunculus rolling in from the field. There were a few stumbles along the way (crate growing is NOT for me) and the mice dined out well on a few of my favourite varieties but but overall it was pretty darn magical and I’m so glad I got to hand over so many incredibly beautiful tulips for the last 6 weeks. It is always bitter sweet to say goodbye to a crop for a another year but the ranunculus is really hitting it’s stride now, just in time to take over and I have to say I’m glad to be free from harvesting tulips every 2-3 hours every day 🤣

Ranunculus season is looming and I’m more than ready, who’s with me?!?

I’m feeling disheartened, and sad. Over the last three days we’ve lost $60 of flowers to theft. Last week it was $40. Over the last season it was hundreds and hundreds, at least 1 bouquet a week. Every. Single. Week.
I came to terms with it, in a way, last season, telling myself that it was someone that needed the flowers for a family member or friend who was ill or aged but couldn’t afford to buy the flowers to cheer them up. I felt like I needed this story to hold on to my faith in humanity.

Up until last season I loved that we could do a honour system, that we could trust people to be good and honourable but I’m having a hard time holding onto that belief right now and wondering if a farm stand is even a viable option anymore. I was praying that this season would be different, that the thieves would have moved on. I guess I was wrong. Farming margins are slim, they always have been and with crop loss due to climate change, rising costs of inputs and theft on top of all that, it’s starting to feel like too much.

I do want to say a big thank you to our regulars that come by and support us week after week. You are the reason I didn’t just throw in the towel last year on the farm stand. Seeing you always makes my day.

We’ll be stepping up our security over the next few days so if you see extra cameras around please don’t be offended, we’re just trying to keep our farm stand doors open.

We are deep in tulip season now and I’m so grateful to have their full lush beauty to work into bouquets and arrangements. I also manage, every year, to forget exactly how exhausting tulip season is 🤣 but as the song goes they’re here for a good time, not a long time and we’ll enjoy they while they’re still here.
The farm stand will be open today (Saturday) and Sunday starting at 11am and stocked with $20 and $30 bouquets of all my favourite double and peony tulips. Located at 23293 34A Ave Langley. Cash, PayPal or etransfer to [email protected]
A little birdie tells me it will be a perfect day to enjoy a glass of wine on a patio and we’ve got 3 wineries within a 5 minute drive, just saying….🍷

The flowers are rolling in from the field and I’m so excited to be able to open the farm stand for regular hours for the season 💃 The winter always feels so long before the flowers arrive, doesn’t it?

Friday isn’t one of our “usual” farm stand days but we are going to be testing out being open Friday or Saturday this season in addition to Tuesdays and Thursdays. I’m hoping to figure out what works best for everyone so if you have a preference let me know in the comments!

We will be open today Friday April 12th and Saturday April 13th from 11am to 7pm with mixed tulip bouquets, flowering branches and mason jars arrangements. 23293 34A Ave, Langley. Cash or etransfer to [email protected]

I’ve missed all our amazing customers over the winter and can’t wait to see everyone again 🙌

Did you know that narcissus (daffodils) shouldn’t be mixed with other flowers in the vase???

Well, unless they have been properly conditioned that is!

Narcissus have gotten a bad rap for shortening the vase life of the flowers they’re mixed with. This is because they leak a sap from their cut ends that can clog up the stems of other flowers and prevent them from drinking. Luckily there is an easy fix 💃 Simply cut the stems to your desired length and then allow them to sit in a separate container of water from your other flowers for at least three hours before adding them back to your arrangement.

We condition ours overnight before tucking them into our farm stand and subscription bouquets so you don’t have to worry about it when you get them home ✅👌

Don’t forget to save this for your next mixed spring bouquet!

***My 5 all-time favourite flowers*** ( #5 might surprise you!)

#1. Ranunculus. The long, slender stems, the vase life and All. Those. Petals. *sigh*. Ranunculus get more beautiful every day in the vase. I dare you, just try not to fall in love.

#2. Foxglove. Every bouquet needs something enchanting, something whimsical and foxgloves are about as whimsical as it gets. Their bells beg for small fingers to explore and their graceful shape whispers of sun-dappled forest paths.

#3. Cosmos. Cosmos are like the easy-going, cheerful and generous friend we all need in our lives. They add airy-ness and movement to every bouquet, the perfect finishing touch every time.

#4. Zinnias. Unpretentious and uncomplicatedly beautiful. With all the new breeding that has been going on for the last few years there is a colour and size to suite every taste, they are the little black dress of flowers.

#5. Bells of Ireland. Maybe an unusual choice but their subtlety is intriguing. The bright green colour is the perfect foil for every colour scheme and that green apple scent 🍏I just can’t get enough. And the thorns? Well they just make the flowers all the sweeter.

These 5 are the backbone of our flower field and end up in almost every bouquet I make because they’re just that good. Want to experience these beauties for yourself? Our bouquet subscriptions are launching this coming week so you can experience them all this year and decide which ones are your favourites!

29/02/2024

I got a big reminder this past week how amazing the small businesses are in our community. When my car suddenly needed work I was stressed; between kids that need to be ferried to and from school and activities and a full days work to put in on the farm there was zero time to be car-less. Small business to the rescue, our local shop could fit me in right away AND THEN they drove me home so I could vent the ranunculus tunnels, prep beds and water the seedlings. I was reminded that this is why small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. You just don’t get that kind of service at a big box store.

If there is a small business that you are grateful for, drop it in the comments below, let’s share the love and let these businesses know they’re doing an amazing job! Scroll over to see just a few of our favourite local small businesses and let me know which ones I missed!
