It's Hump Day, no better day to pay tribute to the legend of Poco Bueno, Paul Waggoner's pride and joy. Said a Waggoner associate in those days: "If ever there was a horse that actually thought for himself, and often tried to reason for himself as he hoped to out-figure you a little bit, it was Poco Bueno. You could almost hear him thinking. You could see him trying to determine for his own satisfaction and conduct just what he could get away with, just how much his handler might stand for. Not in a malicious or angry mood, but in much the same way a boy will sometimes try to see how far beyond a certain point he can go and still escape a reprimand from his parents."

Waggoner employees told the Quarter Horse News of yesteryear that at the first scent of strangers, "Old Pokey" would perk up his ears and strike a pose. "And at the sight of a camera, he would do everything but say, 'shoot.'"
