A very belated 'MERRY XMAS' to all our followers!!! πŸŽ„πŸŽ‰πŸŽ…πŸŽ

Apologies for the lack of posts.

Here's the deal....
We are a neurodivergent household.
We have 4 children at home, 6 in total.
3 of which have birthdays leading up to Xmas, 2 being a 16th and a 21st this year! πŸ˜„πŸ˜ͺ

We also both work (although I have recently left my job) and have a house to maintain.

That's without looking after all our animals! So you could say we have a bit of a Zoo going on here πŸ˜‚ which means sadly that some things have to give and that includes social media πŸ˜•

We try our best to keep you all updated but sometimes life just gets in the way and that's ok, because living life is much more important than sharing it on social media for all to see.

It's not that we don't want to do this but there just isnt enough time or hours in the day to get everything done!

Another confession...we didn't even brumate our snakes this year! Which meant we have had to keep on top of our cleaning and feeding schedule and haven't had a break.

This is partly due to us losing track of things and getting them all off heat in time and partly because we aren't really making any big plans for breeding next year. It was a catch 22 situation and so we just continued with our schedule which has been hard work, but the only way we could get things done without causing chaos!

That said we still have a few plans for next season, but we aren't going full on and it will be a good test to see if brumation does actually effect our season or not and if we are any good at timing things right ourselves....πŸ˜„πŸ‘

Please don't take our silence as anything other than us just being busy with taking care of everyone and know that that is our no.1 priority. That said we are always available to talk anytime, especially if you have one of our babies and are worried about something. We will always endeavour to answer you all in good time and be there for all our patrons old and new. We wouldn't be where we are without you! β€οΈπŸ™

We do hope you have all had a happy Xmas and if you would like to share any of your Xmas chaos with us or your snakes, we would be happy to see/hear all about it/them! πŸ₯°

Here's a couple of pictures from our day...hope you enjoy! πŸ˜€

Best Xmas wishes,
Adam and Sandie

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. We have been very busy with life and just couldn't fit in social media on top. I've also struggled personally with my mental health, so taking a step back sometimes helps! Just spending time with family and the animals is the best therapy πŸ™‚

Here's something new we have been up to today. Somebody got an enclosure upgrade...but can you guess who or see what it is?? πŸ‘€πŸ™‚

We have gone bioactive with this one with a drainage layer, live plants and some orange isopods and springtails for clean up crew πŸ‘

What have you all been up to??

These babies are so chilled out compared to our other clutches, which is funny because the parents can be pretty sassy! Maybe that will come in time..πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

We have some more sad news to share with everyone I'm afraid πŸ₯Ί

This little runt from Norma and Mavericks clutch unfortunately passed away yesterday.

He hatched out at 3g along with a sable female at the same weight. The female ate by herself from the start and had pinky heads before moving onto small pinkies. We decided to keep her and call her Jenny.

This little guy wasn't so keen on eating and I had to assist feed him some tails to start with, which seemed to go ok and he passed fine. He started to build his appetite and took a pinky head by himself on Wednesday, but sadly we found him lifeless with a full little belly yesterday 😒

Maybe he had a blockage of some sort internally or maybe it was just too much for him, who knows! What makes me most sad is that he had a willingness to live and at the time he decided to try was the time he ultimately passed.

This breeding hobby can be so cruel at times! 😭

Rip little guy, you will be remembered β€οΈπŸ’”

We have some sad news to share today...

Unfortunately we have lost our gorgeous girl Phoenix πŸ’”πŸ˜’πŸ˜

Phoenix was produced by ourselves in 2022 was the daughter of Jeeves and Autumn.

She was a beautiful girl, always loved her food and grew very rapidly, just like her mum and siblings.
We were going to breed her next year when she was 3 years old just to make sure she was mature enough to avoid complications.
Unfortunately, she decided to ovulate this year and lay infertile eggs. We were not expecting it at all and were surprised to see her laying a couple of weeks ago.
She did become egg bound and despite our best efforts in getting some eggs out, she did have complications and some were still stuck. We took her to the vets and had her booked in for an op, but unfortunately she passed before that point.

To be honest I don't believe she would have made it through the op even if she did.

We are devastated πŸ’”

There's so many thoughts and processes you go through when you lose a snake. Could we have done anything differently? Could we have noticed any problems sooner? Why did this happen?

There's endless questions, and obviously the hurt and guilt that follows, not being able to help them and saying goodbye.

We have learnt a lot through this process and that is part of the legacy she will leave behind.

She was an amazing snake and her memory will live on forever with us ❀️

RIP Phoenix 😒

'Baby in blue' 🩡

We have quite a few hatchlings going into shed atm which is a great sign for us as it shows they are growing nicely πŸ™‚πŸ‘

'Going into blue' is a phrase used in the hobby meaning that the snake is going into shed. During this period the snake will build up a secretion under their skin/scales which will help them to shed off the outer layer and expose the fresh, new skin underneath. This process takes around 1-2 weeks for hognoses.

πŸ—’βœοΈ STEPS TO SHEDDING -
You might notice your snake hide away more than usual and not want to be disturbed and maybe even go off food. This is a good first sign of going into shed.
Secondly you should notice their bellies turn a cloudly blue colour, closely followed by the eyes in the same way. This is what is meant by the 'blue' phrase, but it can also look like a milky white or grey, depending on what colour or morph your snake is.
Thirdly, after about a week, you should notice your snake will go back to looking a more normal colouring, but maybe a bit darker or duller than usual and sometimes almost plastic looking. This is the old skin sitting on top that will soon be removed by your snake in a couple of days time.
Last step is for your snake to remove the skin by rubbing themselves onto something rough or using their noses and enclosures to help peel it off, sort of like peeling off a sock! The old skin will be left hopefully in one long piece, (which means humidity was at a good level for your snake to comfortably shed) and you will see a lovely, bright looking snake! You might possibly even notice some colour changes or growth too! πŸ˜€πŸ€©

Hognoses do not shed on a strict schedule and each snake will decide themselves when they feel the need to shed, as the true individuals they are! πŸ₯°

This arctic guy is up for auction right now on our morphmarket store! πŸ‘€πŸ‘€

He's nicknamed Flash as he's always been quick to try and get away as his first line of defense! Lol πŸ˜„ he's a fantastic looking Arctic with some lovely colours and tones to him πŸ‘Œ

He's had a few food strikes, hence why he's still with us, but he's a healthy male with a decent size on him and is currently eating consistently enough now. We can't guarantee he won't strike again, as males do, so he would suit an experienced keeper or breeder.

He has a good number of possible hets so he would be a great addition and a nice gamble for some breeding projects! πŸ‘Œ

Please check him out for yourself! πŸ˜€
