Yes*, amber’s protective strength against bugs such as ticks and fleas has been scientifically proven and pet owners around the world have been using amber collars for protection and other health benefits for many decades.
*However, we can not guarantee 100% protection. (There is currently no 100% guaranteed repellent available on the market at present).
2. When amber grinds against itself, it
emits the aroma of resin (amber acid), which is a proven repellent against fleas and ticks. Only raw, unpolished, premium-quality amber can help to protect your pet from unwanted bugs and this is what we use in the production of our collars here at Peppy Pet Naturals :).
3. Can it be toxic? No, amber is a 100% natural product and contains no toxic nasties. Instead, it actually has a host of added benefits including wound-healing properties.
4. Could my dog be allergic to amber? Yes, in extremely rare cases, some dogs can be allergic to amber (just like any other organic material).
5. How long does the collar have to be worn to be effective? The most effective level of protection will be established when it is worn for a minimum of 2 weeks.
6. What if the amber breaks? Amber stones can break occasionally and this is a natural process of unpolished amber in particular. It is by grinding against each other that the amber stones release the aroma which helps to protect our precious pets and can sometimes also cause them to break apart.
7. Why do you use raw, unpolished amber? Only raw and unpolished amber can help to protect pets. Polished amber is essentially sealed, so it doesn't release amber acid and its aroma to repel bugs. The trade-off of this is that unpolished amber is softer and can break more easily.
8. How long does it last? Our quality collars can last up to several years. The best way to monitor them is to keep an eye on the amber beads, when they begin to take on a more polished appearance, it is likely that their effectiveness has begun to reduce.
