Trying something different, a 7 day IGP Heel work course with @theschoolofcaninescience.
First session was great. I look arkward and Ava looks beautiful and graceful 😂😂
Love learning new things.
Good way to start a Monday. Training done ✅
This set up may look weird and more like a children's soft play area than a dog class 😂
But this was the life skills class this Saturday for our beginner dogs. Lots of unusual, novel, noisy, moving challenges to test and build their confidence. 🛹
All the dogs did so well and showed they were all confident pups. ❤️❤️
Watch out for the New Year Class dates.
Gorgeous walk this morning with ABCD 😍😍 Oh and J!
Just managed to get a photo with all 4 sitting!
A little paws up... Didi's first time... And won't be her last! She's already so much fun to train and play with. 😍😍
This is for scent class 😊

🐶 Walk On By (A Bowl Game) 🍽️
This game teaches your dog some self-control and disengagement. If they can walk nicely around a bowl of food, they can transfer that skill to the real world and show self-control on a walk 🌍.
1️⃣ Have a food bowl on the floor 🥣. Put your dog on a lead and restrain them gently (so they can’t get to the food).
2️⃣ Throw some food in the bowl 🍖.
3️⃣ Now walk with your dog towards the bowl. The idea is they have to walk with a loose lead to the bowl, then they get to have the food 🐕. If they pull, turn around and walk away, then try again.
4️⃣ You can combine games here! Use a bit of GILP if they pull or use Magic Hand to help them initially walk nicely to the bowl 🎯.
5️⃣ Extend the distance your dog has to walk nicely to the bowl ➡️.
6️⃣ You could use toys or very high-value treats to make it harder 🎾.

I did this video for several reasons. Partly because I thought it was funny, and I wanted to share the fun me and Ava have during training. Also to show you how eager and fast she is. She really keeps you on your toes! You have to be so precise with your verbal and visual cues.
But I'm working on proofing her cues more and trying to get her to slow down a little as it will help with her agility too. She will offer a jump or tunnel because she thinks it's what I want but it isn't always!
I'm careful not to frustrate her but she seems to handle it pretty well. She can be very sensitive too.
Lots to learn from this video for me and my mechanics (and how I tend to be predictable). It was a great little session 😊😍
Took Cactus out for a litttle adventure this morning into our local village. Short drive in the car to help him with his car over excitement and then a wander round to hopefully see some dogs at a distance to be able to increase his confidence.
Well we certainly saw a dog, a big one, off lead, luckily very friendly, and the two boys actually had a nice conversation. We then walked away and I got Cactus's focus back quickly and he seemed pretty happy with the encounter 😍😍
It wasn't quite as I'd planned but I took it as a training opportunity😊😊
We did lots of paws up, spins, rewind, gilp, orientation game and mouse game and he aced them all. 😁🎖️
And then let him have a good sniff and wander round back to the car 👍🚗
🎯Give in to Lead Pressure (GILP) 🎯
This game teaches your dog that pulling on the lead doesn’t get them where they want to go. Instead, turning back to you is a much better deal 🐕✨.
1️⃣ With your dog on lead, throw a treat just out of their reach 🍖.
2️⃣ Your dog will pull towards it, and you're going to stay still, gently keeping the tension on the lead 🦮.
3️⃣ Wait them out (without saying anything) until your dog looks at you 👀, comes towards you, or releases the tension. Then say “yes” and give them a treat 🎉.
4️⃣ Repeat a few times. You might find that in one session, your dog quickly learns that pulling doesn’t work, and they won’t even go after the treat. That’s great! 🙌 Give it a break, then try again in a more challenging environment 🌳.
Meet Richard and his dog Billy. This is a clip of their 4th agility session. We've been building Billy's confidence over the weeks to enable him to be able to do the obstacles while also encouraging that litttle bit of independence too.
By breaking down the dog walk into smaller parts Billy was able to go over the full walk within a few goes.
Richard has said it has definitely strengthened their bond, and built Billy's confidence. Having never done a class likes this before they have really enjoyed it.
So why not give it a go yourself with your dog for fun but also to see what you can achieve together 😊😍

🔄 Rewind 🔄
This is a simple game that teaches your dog to keep an eye on you, as you may change direction at any time! Plus, they’ll get rewarded for following you 🍖.
1️⃣ Start with your dog on lead in a low-distraction environment 🏡.
2️⃣ Have treats in your hand and walk forward with your dog for a few steps 🐕, then quickly and deliberately start moving backwards. Lure your dog a little or call their name to get them to follow you 🗣️. As they follow, give them several treats while you walk backwards for a few paces.
3️⃣ Repeat. After a few tries, see if they will follow you just from the cue of you moving backwards, without luring or calling them 🎯.
4️⃣ Keep repeating until they seem really focused on your movement 👀.
5️⃣ You can try this off lead too!
6️⃣ Try it in different environments 🌳 and on a walk 🦮.
7️⃣ If there’s a distraction up ahead, can they come away from it to follow you? 💡
