So the neighbors are selling/sold their property next to us. And surveyors came out and measured the property lines. I always wondered why our place looked so small for what they said came with it.

So we have lists of brush to trim down. I started this morning…….

You can see where our top paddock ends. And the other half of the photo to the right you guessed it that’s where I started. But it goes all the way back to the creek.

This will be valuable land that didn’t realise we had for sure.

As you all probably know and some may not. My husband had his leg amputated twice. First time got infected. So they had to go in and amputate above his knee.

That being said we have some emergency repairs we have to do. Well I have to do as unfortunately I am the only help now. Until we hope and pray he gets his prosthetic sorted out. That is something we are both looking forward too for sure.

I am going to merge the lower two paddocks into one big one. Take down one of the shelters to make one more sturdy one. Move my water trough closer to the front gate. It’s going to be a big project but I can reuse the timber on the mid section to put fencing up so dear Kathy cannot shimmy under the electric fencing and back again thinking she is going unnoticed. Lol

It’s funny but it’s not. Life is a struggle but this is just to show that we can adapt and move on.

Just needing some cement and human power lol

Am I tired yes I am exhausted. But my animals are my release they are there for when I am down or when I just need someone to listen. Enjoy the destruction that Kathy did 🤦‍♀️

Do not use First Guard fencing they are the worst. They moved from Kentucky to Georgia I feel sorry for them down there.

Just going over from where I got my love of horses from.

My Nan used to take me for riding lessons at the age of seven up on robinswood hill in Gloucester, UK 🇬🇧.

Then at the age of ten I obtained my first pony and boy did he teach me everything I knew good and bad. Mainly how to stay on.
‘Sammy’ was a new forest pony crossed with Welsh Mountain. We call his colour skewbald I know in the USA they call them something totally different yet again. Piebald back in England is a black/white coloured horse. Skewbald any other colour horse. That was the first thing that totally threw me off with colours of horses here.

Followed by an Anglo Arab ‘Copper’ Pontafren Copper King was his registered name.

I had a small break. Ten years to be precise. I had my daughter and wanted to do something with horses again so I worked part time at the local horse riding stables on a weekend. As the radio stations would say learn to ride the the aptly named ‘Helen Gallop’. Yes that is her genuine last name. At the time it was called Summerhouse Equitation Center. Now called ‘prestige’. Helen always liked to do the best of everything that she did. This is where I learned to teach kids to ride both able and disabled children. Through the programs they ran I obtained by BHS PTT, ABRS Teaching exam, BHS Stage III. All cover horse care and management.

From there I purchased my first horse as an ‘adult’ a lesson horse that never got on in the horse riding environment. She was a bay mare called ‘Polly’. Her demeanor was just like an Arab horse. But you were always safe with her and she could move fast.

At where I kept her I ‘rescued’ my first horse his name was ‘Anthem’ a black thoroughbred that chose me. He was my first horse that I broke in. He hated flat work got bored real fast but he loved to hack out down the lanes alone and in company. He was quick. If he was with a horse he didn’t like he would buck all the way up the road just through frustration. Nothing bad at all. People refused to come out with me for fear of him hurting someone else. (Not me). So I took him out over motorway bridges by myself and people would wait to hear from me when I got back. (Was no mobile phones back then). My husband at the time said he’s going to be the death of you. I sold him on. They called me to say how ‘quick’ he was. Yes he was fast he was bred to be a racehorse.

Another memorable horse was ‘Bracken’. She was an Irish sports horse - a beautiful rose grey. My first mare. And this is where my love for mares comes from. I did novice endurance GB with her. But as she got fitter there was something not right with her pedal bone she would kick out every time we tried to put shoes on her. So she went for X-rays to the vet. She had deformed pedal bones in her back foot. I was broken. Bushy Equine clinic said they could strip all the tendons in her foot if needed. But if she ever her her foot she would never know. As I was helping at a hunt stables helping with breaking and exercising horses they had a stud there who was awesome and produced some great offspring. So we had her sent there to try for a foal. She fell pregnant and stayed there while I helped out. However the pain she was in even on anti inflammatory medicine she absorbed the foal. So I brought her home to make her comfortable as possible to live her life as a pasture puff. As I helped worked at the stud /hunt yard I was offered a foal. I loved this one mare her name was ‘Jane’ and I would pay extra attention to her as she never got much attention. We went to check the fields one morning and she had her foal. I was smitten with both her and her foal. We led her up to the stables with her baby in tow. But her baby ran under her legs and fell to the ground. So I scooped this tiny foal up in my arms and carried her. This was the foals first bonding. I called her red rox. Though she had pedigree and linage the stud named her ‘Lakestreet Curious’. I used to go down the field and she would find me and we would play and she would get her scratches etc. I chose her to become my baby. When she was six months she came home.

Her stable name was ‘Kyra’. She grew and grew. She had such great presence about her I did not want to hold her back. She was sold to a lady who did eventing. This mare excelled at everything she did. Even going to do the under 18’s GB Event team.

Again I still love mares.

Bracken go my to the point she could no longer move and I called my vet and he came out and agreed with me that it was her time. So we said goodbye to her and had her own casket and everything. Yes horses back in England get cremated and have caskets. She was a one off. But still not my heart horse.

While working at the hunt stables I enjoyed riding this Irish mare ‘Bally Brit Lass’ stable name was Tess she was blind in her left eye. But she still did great at endurance.

I was also teaching full time at the riding stables as well. Helped the vet with doing injections for injured horses at our farm so no one had to pay call out fees. Dressed wounds daily for horses at the livery yard as well. As well as being a mother to the Apple of my eye my daughter.

My daughter had timbe opportunity to obtain a small black welsh pony from the riding stables that was on loan to them. The owner asked if I knew of anyone. This pony was a firm favourite with all the kids. So I said yes ‘me’. And home came little thistle all 12 hands of him. My daughter loved him to pieces. They share a unique bond. She still talks about him now even though she herself is coming up to 30.

On one fateful endurance ride I was riding Tess and Siân was on her thistle she called him thistle darling as his EGB name. Someone had their dogs loose and they ran at Tess blind side. She stumbled into a large hole in the rock and I went with her. I smashed my head in one side of the rock and my lower back on the other side. I couldn’t move. My riding hat was trashed. Air ambulance came to pick me up. And as my ex husband couldn’t drive another friend had to haul everyone home for the event back to safety. At the hospital I was I agony I had injured all the nerve endings in my spine. I couldn’t walk or sit. Was just too painful. Tess was 60 miles endurance fit! She couldn’t go without work. And as I couldn’t look after her I decided to sell her.

I still wanted to look after horses and do something. Based on having an ‘Anglo Arab’ I did not want another Arab. He gave me a bad experience of the breed. However I wanted an unbroken horse so I wouldn’t be tempted to try and ride with my injuries.

So I started ‘that search’ and was able to research thanks to the internet. I found a breeder who was retiring and I started to speaking to them. He was a breeder of Arab horses ‘TFA Arabian’ Tony Fretwell. We spoke at length he encouraged me to come out and meet his mares. So we went along and met his mares (he loved them and they loved him). These mares were stunning however unbroken was what I was looking for. I befriended the grey mare ‘TFA Qadifa’, we got on from day one. So I purchased her and brought her home. My friend who can with me bought her sister ‘TFA Katriss’.

Once home and still do my own limitations I kept ‘Qaddy’ in for two weeks while I handled her all over. Picked up her feet and tapped a hammer all over her feet. She followed me everywhere I went. I was her mum. I was smitten with her.

I became more mobile. We did extensive ground work. She listened to voice commands. We felt as one. She was then backed by myself. She would load and unload in a trailer no issues same with the horse lorry we got ready for our future. Qaddy became my heart horse. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for me. We were a team.

We had a call from our local endurance team asking if my daughter and I would ride for them. Qaddy was newly broken and going out alone etc. so we went on our first endurance ride. We arrived at the starting point which was on the race track. We had to park by a train track - yes trains were running and she did not bat an eyelid. Racing pigeons were being let out at the start as we left the venue. She didn’t care she knew she had a job to do. It was a day of many firsts for her and I mean many. That day our team came in third. I was so proud!! Still am to this day. That was a three month turn around from unbroken to broken and riding EGB.

We started to receive calls from other Arab owners who had the same breed line as Qaddy. It got crazy we had mother, daughter, sister and brother all from the same line. All grey all as unique as one another.

We were our own unique Arab horse family. It felt awesome I cannot explain it but when you feel it you know. Qaddy got sick after having her routine vaccination she went down hill fast. She lost her fight. It broke my heart into a million pieces. I was lost without her. We had five great years. I still miss her to this day.

A lot happened in the in between. And I mean a lot. Marriage break up. Met someone else. And moved to the USA.

Simple everyone thinks? No there is a big difference between both counties. Horse feed, vets, the whole horse system. I vowed when I lost Qaddy to NEVER own a horse unless they were able to be at home with me.

I started looking at ‘kill pen’ pages. I knew I wanted a mare. Another mare not to replace Qaddy she was unreplaceable. I seen one and went to purchase her she died at the kill pen before she even got to leave. Watched more videos and seen this Arab mare she was nice so I contacted the same lot. They put me in touch with . I did not know the process of horses here in USA. It was a big learning curve.

So here you buy your horse from the kill pen. Then they have to do a minimum of four weeks QT to make sure they are fit to travel. Also once you buy your horse you pay for the keep at the kill pen. They do not feed for free while you wait! They are a business.

I have learned a lot here in the USA. Coggins, not a veterinary certificate which we have back at home on the horses passport. Which you must carry your horses passport back in England to prove they are vaccinated and healthy. Here it’s a yellow coggins sheet that you carry with you when you transport anywhere out of state.

So four horses later from the same kill pen. They were coming home. Fences were built at home. And they arrived. Some have moved on to their forever homes. One passed from old age ‘Winnie’ she is buried here at home. No one can hurt her no more and I know exactly where she is at.

We answered the ‘call’ for horses that were paid for but left at kill pens. That’s how three Arabs are here still today. And that’s how Lambshack Ranch started.

We have LSR Lego our only QT horse he’s old but he is happy has very weak skin. The oils I used back at home I use on his skin and it works for him. I proved it to myself this year I never started on it straight away. Then his skin was awful. So the other day I made some more with a better base oil. Today his skin is so much better. His skin is stronger and not flaky. I named the oil Winnie’s wonder. I have sent samples of this out before. Eventually I will look at bigger production of the product. But real life problems come for front.

Next to arrive …

LSR Cinco

He has a bad knee at the front he looked like a frame when we picked him up. He’s a pasture puff. He struggles in winter time. I mean who wouldn’t with bad arthritis. I did have the vet come check him as I was worried about him. But he said he’s in too good a shape to let him go. And tbh he is. He is my male version of Qaddy. He looks like her and acts like her. Lego and Cinco do everything together they are best buddies.

Next arrival…….

LSR Dime

Another horse paid for and left at a kill pen. These horses when paid for accrue boarding fees and if it exceeds what was paid for they are once again’at risk’. I sold my gun and paid for him to come home.

Jerry the transporter I use around here and trust. Pulled up and said he was a hard one to catch. And he isn’t walking. ‘Great’. So I put him in the farthest paddock to QT him at home. He had no clue what a bucket was no clue what a haynet was. He couldn’t roll he sweated every time he walked anywhere. To touch him anywhere was painful. Vet came out and gave me meds to give him. He started to walk. He started to roll but only if I was there to help him. He reminds me of ‘Kyra’. He floundered in his front hoof I never seen anything like it before in my life. His whole hoof wall peeled away. That was nearly two years ago. We watch what he eats. Any changes have to be done gradually and watch his colour in his coat is the best sign. Now he rolls runs plays and if I sit down he has to sit right on me practically.

Reason he was called Dime we had Cinco named by the Arab group. Dime means ten. But also my husband worked with a band and their star guitar player was Dime. Yes the one from Pantera. So he was named and his tack is black and green. lol

Our last intake for now.

LSR Kathy

A paid for mare her home fell through. She was unhandled and six years old. A month passed and still no home. I could see something In her. She has ‘Qaddys’ eyes. Trusting. So she came home.

Jerry went to pick her up the same night it was decided she was coming here. Kept her at his farm until he brought her to me. This guy is a legend in my book. I highly recommend him he may be old fashioned but he’s down to earth.

Jerry pulls up and she is on the front of the trailer. He doesn’t have four wheel drive so we had to unload on the road. She had never had a halter on! I draped a rope over her body and placed the halter on her head. This is the only time she has had one on! She came out of the trailer and dragged me on my butt down the grass bank. Jerry laughed and asked if I was ok. Yes I was just not letting go. lol

We got her to her QT paddock. She is partially sighted in one side. This little mare has torn through four electric fences as she likes to be by the house. So we have had to improvise. So she can get to the house to be near as possible.

So this is Lambshack Ranch and how we became who we are and why we are.

Sorry for such a long boring story.

God Bless Gods Angels the ones without wings.

I post a lot about the Arabs we have from rescue. This boy has been with us from Day One. He was rescued from Stroud OK.

He was purchased with the idea of my husband riding him. So far to date my husband has ridden him 0/10. He is a nice ride though.

What we do as horse owners……..

Feed horses twice a day at regular times.

Owners go without to feed their animals - do that most days.

Work through the pain on a daily basis.

Why do we do this? Because not many others would.

They are family and have feelings too same as the other animals.

I make bracelets and wristlets that support their food habits. You can see the page Trinket Box I will be at bull creek trade center again today. There is a new line as well called ‘WWJD’……. What Would Jesus Do

A reminder of how your purchases contribute to the animals ……

Sorry for not much of recent updates. But here we go. The weather here has been extremely hot. Water has bern topped up and electrolytes given as needed in fresh water buckets fitted around for them.

That being said maintenance still needs to happen. And I mean fence maintenance. I paid a contractor around 18 months ago. And he never finished the job. So he pocketed half of the deposit money on two days work?! All the fence posts he has put in I have been gradually re cementing. Tonight made no exception - three fence posts needed done. On way back out from the paddock there is also another post that needs doing.

The last horse that we took on she has vision issues. So a top rail is required on all our fencing. Too much has gone on for this baby girl (I feel to up root her).

I worked out that five bags of cement are required and at least 50 of 2 x 4 x 10ft pressure treated timber is required for our lower paddocks to make them Kathy safe.

Cost currently at ‘Lowe’s’

Cement is now $7.28/bag x 5 = 36.40
Timber is $7.18/10ft x 50 = 359.00

Total cost to make areas safe 395.50 plus taxes.

Any help/donation is gratefully appreciated.

Thank you and God Bless!!!

So this week we have the underside going to be panelled in with wood to make for better storage for feed etc. Excited for this for sure.

To do list…..

Field shelters finished off plus another one added so there is one per paddock.

Stalls…… still a work in progress but there is a tree in the way atm. It’s pending being cut down. Yup it’s a huge tree.

Needed…….

Turnouts rugs

Lego - 6ft lightweight rug

Cinco - he has got so round he now requires 6ft rugs. Medium weight and a light weight rug.

Dime - 5’9” light weight rug and a medium rug for him.

Kathy - she’s coming to be the queen bee so she needs all rugs atm. Though 5’9” is a little large on her so she is a 5’6” atm. She needs lightweight and medium weight she keeps her warmth pretty well for sure.

Wormers - always ongoing especially during paddock rotations etc.

If people prefer to buy an item instead of donating I totally get that for sure. Which is why I have posted their wants and needs.

Good places for rugs are www.chicksaddlery.com

I’m not asking anything for myself just for these lovely animals that were once in kill pens and need to enjoy their soft landing.

Have a blessed day!!!! Trinket Box

ChickSaddlery.com - Saddle, Horse Tack and Horse Supply Warehouse. Western Saddles, English Saddles, saddlery, Tack, Horse and riding equipment at discount prices.

Someone once said if you take care of someone with dementia you lose them more and more every day. When they are diagnosed, when they go through different stages, when they need treatment and when they pass away. This is called "ambiguous loss."
I don't wish dementia on anyone. As the brain slowly dies, they physically change and eventually forget who their loved ones are. They could end up lying in bed, not moving and not eating or drinking.
There will be people who will scroll past this post because dementia hasn't touched them. You may not know what it’s like to have a loved one who has battled or is still battling dementia..
To raise awareness of this cruel disease, I would like my friends to put this on their page today.
Hold finger on the post to copy and paste to your timeline.
A special thank you to anyone who is willing to put this on their timeline for Alzheimer's Awareness Week!.
