Let’s talk ✨Doodles✨
I’ve had 9 new doodle clients this month alone. About 70% of the dogs I groom are some sort of doodle. They are the new trendy dog, as they’re totally adorable. But you should definitely do your research before buying one. (Or come ask me😉)
•Doodles are NOT hypoallergenic. Because they are a mixed breed they’re bred with something other than a poodle. If you are looking for a hypoallergenic puppy, consider a poodle or schnauzer (I can groom a poodle to look just like a doodle!)
•Doodles are prone to ear infections, I have several doodle clients who are constantly treating their doodles for ear infections, they’re painful and they don’t smell the best🤢 & anything “mini” “toy” or “micro” doodles are prone to hip dysplasia, because they’re crossing a mini poodle with a large standard size other breed.
•Doodles require ALOT of grooming, if you prefer the fluffy/shaggy look they need to see a groomer about every 4 weeks with thorough brushing every single day. Since they are a mixed breed, the crossing of two different coat types can make for a lot of tangles. Which can lead to heavy matting, if they get tight enough, they will pull on their skin leaving your pup in bruises. Then you have no choice but to have them shaved to very short length leaving them looking like “rats” as some clients say🤭
And this goes for any breed that has long hair. Brushing is a must! I can show you the best type of brush and comb and show you how to do it!
• Doodles SHED. They are marketed to be non shedding dogs. However because they’re a mixed breed, they will shed. However the more poodle they have in them the less they will shed. If you buy a 50% golden retriever and a 50% poodle, they’re going to shed! If you want a non shedding pup, consider a poodle, schnauzer, Maltese, or several other breeds!
• if you are planning on taking your dog to a groomer, all puppies, not just doodles need to get affiliated with a groomer as young as 10 weeks old. Please do not wait until your puppy is 6 months old or older to take them. It makes for very stressful time for them. (And us!) and waiting that long, long hair dogs are almost always extremely matted, and their first haircut, they’re leaving as a cute and lovable rat🥴
• doodles are great dogs, but just as any dog, do your research before buying a puppy. They may be cute but make sure you are ready for the responsibility and attention these doodles need!🩷
• I just thought this needed to be said, considering they’re the hit dog right now! I love all my doodles, and every dog that walks through my door🩷
•I hope everyone has a great new year’s weekend! See you Tuesday!💖
