It's always sad when we have to say goodbye to our fosters. The day came for Miss Millie and we couldn't be happier she is now officially adopted by a dear friend and neighbor Kristin Elaine. I know her daughters will provide Millie with all the snuggles and walks her heart desires.

It also helps to see the relief in a rescue dog's reaction of knowing she found her furever home. ❤️

Common questions about fostering pets:

1. Won't the kids get attached?

Yes they do but they also understand they are saving a life. They all gained a greater sense of empathy and drive to help. With the severely abused puppy they learned not everyone starts off with a good life but they were intent on making sure he only experienced love going forward and earned his trust.

2. How do you know the dog is ok with kids?

Because I have a young child (7 yrs) the shelters only place known family-friendly dogs with us. The boys also learned to respect each dog's idiosyncrasies and boundaries, which translates well for their people skills too. Shelters will work with you on which dogs are the right ones for you to foster.

Is fostering for you?
1. Foster pets give you company - they only ask for food and love, they are so happy to see you and they don't ask questions or correct you (per Harrison my 7 yr old).

2. Trial run with foster to adopt - foster fails are the happiest stories. Pixie is ours!

3. Fostering is flexible - can't commit to a lifetime with a pet but still want one in your life? Fostering is for you! Empty nest too empty sometimes? Fill in your non-travel time with a foster!

4. Do you know a senior citizen who is lonely but not sure they can afford and care for a pet all the time? Fostering pays for the vet fees and provides food for your dog. It also provides a sense of need and purpose for seniors who are alone.

New emergency foster sister Millie is a sweetheart. Dumped at a shelter in Georgia - she is a kid loving little mush. Really chill, haven't heard a bark yet. Loves to play fetch. Just wants to be part of the pack. Kid and cat friendly. Real snuggler. 20 lbs and 2 yrs old, fully trained and comes when called.

Meet Kaia. She was given up due to the owner's personal medical issues. She is housebroken, walks well on a leash, lived with a cat in her previous home and loves kids. She is a dog toy destroyer so she needs aggressive chewer dog toys. She hasn't touched shoes thankfully!

If you are looking for a snuggle puppy in your life my foster sister Dottie is who you want! She came here last week sick and got me sick, but we are both all better now. You see she was abandoned at the high-kill shelter bc her family went back to work and didn't have time for her. She is about 2 yrs old and house broken. Not much of a barker, really chill and just wants to hang with you. She can be an only dog or 2nd dog as she is submissive. She also loves kids. She does destroy toys though, so stuffies beware. Walks well on a leash and doesn't run off, comes when called. We are working on training everyday to be the best dog she can be for her next family. Reach out if you want to meet her! 20 lb daushund/terrier mix maybe?

If you are looking to add a little house elf in your life, this cutie has ears as expressive as Dobby's. We are fostering this 4 month old sweet, shy, submissive and eager to please boy named Coal. He doesn't seem to have any prey drive as he just watches squirrels run while I give chase. He is a big scaredy cat, I am trying to show him the good life and that it's fun being a dog with a family. You see he is all skin and bones after a rough start but TLC Sweet Souls Rescue brought him up from Georgia. They are the best, they rescued me and my siblings too.

His ideal home is with another dog so he can learn how to be a dog without fear. This guy follows me around and is a quick study. Currently 12 lbs, crate trained and doing very well with potty training. Great with kids and other dogs. Very gentle mouth, doesn't seem to be a chewer and haven't heard a bark yet! He has about my energy level, which is average to low, we like to sleep a lot, even though we are both young.

I am a foster brother! Coal came from the same rescue org I did TLC Sweet Souls Rescue. He made the long trip from Georgia this morning to ice cold CT! He is so sweet, a great 4 month old, big eared mutt. Will show him the ropes and hope someone local will adopt him!
