Dr. Shine is headed home to Indiana to see her family and will be unavailable for emergency services until noon on Sunday.

Emergencies should contact LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital 225-578-9700 and prepare to haul to their facility.

We will resume normal operations at 7am Monday morning.

EHV Update: What You Need to Know

We know many of you have seen the news about the recent Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) outbreak and our phones have been extra busy this morning with concerned owners. First — don’t panic. ❤️

EHV outbreaks are serious, but there are clear, effective steps you can take to protect your horses.

What we want you to know right now:

• There is no need to transport or move horses unless absolutely necessary. Keeping horses home is safer than hauling them around during an outbreak.
• Practice strict biosecurity: no shared equipment, no nose-to-nose contact between farms, wash hands, disinfect frequently touched items, limit visitors.
• Monitor temperatures twice daily. A fever is often the first sign.
• Call us if your horse develops fever, nasal discharge, cough, or neurologic signs.

We are inundated with calls and messages this morning, and we promise we will get back to everyone as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience as we work through the high volume — we want to make sure every client gets the attention they deserve.
