Wow!!! There is a lot of stuff at your yard sale - something for everyone. There's furniture, planting pots, bird cages, wrestling shoes (7.5 youth), rain boots, Harley jacket, little male dog belly bands, decorative prints, holiday wreaths, work lights, and much, much more. We're extending the sale till 2pm today.

There will be a yard sale at the Humane Society on Saturday, July 6 from 8-12. There will be all sorts of pet-related items from heated cat houses to dog clothes to dog beds to kennels and more. All proceeds to benefit the shelter!

We love our pets and feel terrible when they go missing. Some will find their way back safe and sound, but that doesn’t lessen the anxiety in the meantime. More dogs go missing during the 4 th of July holiday than any other time because of the loud noise and lights of fireworks.

Here are some tips to help keep your pet from running off, and will help get them back safely if they do.

1. Over the July 4th holiday keep your pets securely inside. Place them in a inner room, close the curtains/blinds, and turn on the TV or radio.
2. Put a collar and identification tag on your pet that includes your phone number.
3. Get your pet microchipped. Or if your pet is already chipped, make sure the registration is up to date (the Union County Humane Society will scan your pet and check chip registration for you).
4. Get your pets spayed and neutered. Romance is a strong motivation for roaming.
5. Keep vaccinations up to date in case it tangles with something while gone.
6. Take photos of your pet. Views from the front and both sides are best to help people identify your missing pet.
7. When your pet goes missing, immediately post your photos and last known location on social media.
8. If lost in Union County, TN, please contact the Humane Society (865-992-7969), submit a lost pet report and send them its photos. They will keep an eye out for your pet among those that are brought into the shelter. Do the same with other area animal shelters.

Most of the things you can do to get your lost pet back must be done before they’re lost. Don’t wait!

Please keep an eye on your dogs for signs of distemper. If they exhibit any of these symptoms, please get them to a vet immediately.

We're hiring! Do you love cats and kittens? We are looking for one or more part-time employees focused on the health and welfare of our cat and kitten population. The hours are 8am-Noon, 7 days a week (may be covered by one person or split amongst two). It includes cleaning and caring for those cats and kittens in our Intake Room, Kitten Room, and Cat Cottage. Santa visited us, and listened to all of the Christmas wishes from kittens, puppies, and our big boy Goose. Even our director, Tammy, had a few wishes that she whispered to Santa!

Patches' Story - My best day so far in my short 5 months of life is when I was found and brought to the animal shelter. You see, my owner placed me in a bag with garbage, tied it up, and dumped me on a remote road. A kind gentleman found me and brought me to the shelter. The compassionate people at the shelter gave me a bath because I smelled really bad - they had the softest, most caring hands as they gently washed me. The first few days, I didn't know who to trust, but the staff were patient and showed me loved. I'm finally coming out of my shell, and I love to play ball and get lovies. Would you consider giving me a loving, secure forever home? What a great day for a ride! We had 56 bikes join us on an 80-mile ride through Union, Claiborne, and Grainger Counties on September 9. If you'd like to join us next year, please mark your calendar for September 14, 2024 for our next Ride Like an Animal!
