This is the moment Henry (white face) met his new best friend forever today. Henry lost his partner not too long ago and was quite depressed until his owner got in touch with us. Martha (grey tiel) has just arrived to her new forever home and we think it'll be a happily ever after đđ
Thank you to everyone who came to our services day today, all the new and the regulars. We had a very successful day and raised over $800, which all goes towards ensuring we can continue to care for our feathery friends đ€
You and your technicolour chooks are busy this Saturday at the NHVBR service day! Message us to book in for services and for the address. Please do not attend if youâre sick as we have immunocompromised volunteers attending. There will be a sausage sizzle alongside our very affordable services. Hello world! My nameâs Floyd and Iâm searching for my forever family!
Iâve lived my whole twelve years with wonderful humans who, through no fault of their own, can no longer offer me the out of cage time that I need to thrive.
Iâm not scared of moving house. I have a history of coping really well with change, new people, and new environments. When my humans have been overseas, my birdie sitters have found that while I start out kinda quiet and observant, within a week or two Iâm completely myself and zipping around happily to make it to a shoulder or a nice high spot to observe my domain. Once Iâm in a routine I really take to it and will let ya know in no uncertain terms if youâve forgotten something. Gotta keep these silly humans in line sometimes, amirite birds?
Iâm totes cool with all the dogs and cats Iâve ever met (even when the cat isnât cool with me), but very young children put me on edge, as they can be quite grabby and unpredictable and my relationship to hands isnât straightforward. Iâm generally more a a fan of toes, but Iâll step up on your hand if youâre nice to me. Just keep those movements nice and slow and, being a smart and alert cookie who is highly food motivated, Iâll be easy enough to train further if required.
I donât just love food for foodâs sake, I also adore company during meals. If you wonât give me a bite of what youâre eating Iâll take matters into my own talons, go fetch myself a bit of food from my house, and come eat alongside ya. Eating alone is no fun, after all⊠Youâre welcome!
Another thing I love love loooove is baths! Iâll bathe every single day if a human is kind enough to give me fresh water.
While I may not enjoy being stuck in it all day, I do actually love my cage and when given freedom I will often opt to spend a lot of time in and on it. I also very much enjoy a couple of hours a day in there on the balcony soaking up the vitamin D and fresh air. My cage is even more fun with foraging toys, love getting my beak into âem to find the food inside so Iâll need a steady supply of those please!
My current family takes beautiful care of me. Iâm glowing with health, get regular check ups at an avian vet, my talons are kept beautiful and trimmed, and they have me on the optimal diet - LOTS of fresh veg, some fruit, nutrient pellets, and a limited amount of seed each day.
I need a family who loves me and cares about my health enough to commit to maintaining these wonderful standards of care to which I am accustomed.
I live in the Blue Mountains, but if you can offer me a place in your heart and home my humans are more than willing to travel to make it happen. I mean, of course they are, Iâm worth it, right?
If you think your family is the right family for me, please send the NHVBR admins a DIRECT MESSAGE.
If youâve read about my needs carefully enough to still be reading now, start your message with the code word âBeakerâ and the team at NHVBR will prioritise you. Theyâll also check that youâre up to speed on modern Best Practice Parrot Care, and we can all go from there.

*Assisted Rehome - Not Currently in NHVBR care*
Clancy the Alexandrine has spent her entire 12 years with the same loving owners but sadly they are unable to house her anymore.
They would love for her to be adopted into a loving forever home.
She is an independent, inside bird and not often caged. She knows to step up to get where she needs to go, loves to forage in a box shredding papers and enjoys showers and baths.
Clancy does talk a little....Come on...step up....what ya doin...
and yes, like all Alexandrines she is LOUD!
She's not aggressive, but generally not a fan of children so would best be in a home where the adults have experience with medium-large parrots.
Clancy's requirements include a diet of fresh fruit vegetables, nutrient pellets, and a little seed. As she has been the only bird in her house we are unsure on if she would get along with other birds or not.
If you think you can provide the perfect home for Clancy, please DIRECT MESSAGE the admins *mandatory screening questionnaire and adoption fees apply*
Lucy's carer is REALLY enjoying her company right now.
Don't mistake her for a Ringneck. Lucy is a mature young Alexandrine, glowing with health. Her background is a mystery.
Her general demeanor is currently quiet and cautious, but also extremely communicative.
There's definitely one whipsmart, super curious, slightly sassy lady in there though who, deep down, craves affection and company.
She's now starting to emerge again, and it's really exciting to watch!
She certainly has OPINIONS, but her intelligence makes negotiating boundaries with her really straightforward.
She calls out from time to time. Occasionally quite loudly, but wild and beautful.
Her carer believes that her future could be very bright if she gets a fresh start in the right kind of patient, loving home.
LUCY'S REQUIREMENTS
Generous indoor free-flight time with consistent calm human presence and a gentle routine.
Her human/s will need the patience to give her lots of space for the first little while as she explores and settles in. She'll presently get bored or curious and make her way over.
If you treat her gently and respectfully, she'll start to return much more often.
She doesn't like "NO" and WILL test you (but not that hard).
She has been known to throw the odd (kinda funny, tbh) tantrum.
You will need the confidence to recognise and interrupt a tantrum strike with a quick, firm hand gesture right up close to her face.
She'll promptly settle into a huff, then eventually get over it.
Look, the fact that you've read this far means that you care more about about Lucy than most people who apply for birds.
If you can offer my curious girl here a true home and a real chance to thrive, I'm all ears.
Send a **Direct Message** with the code word: RAPTOR
I'll pop you through the mandatory screening questionnaire and we'll chat Lucy đ
***Please do keep in mind that adoption fees apply.
Obligatory reminder also - A long and lovely life for Lucy, while not the most expensive, isn't exactly cheap to provide either.***
LOST LOVE BIRD
Missing from Dora Creek
Please **DIRECT MESSAGE** Newcastle and Hunter Valley Bird Rescue if sighted.
This bright and stunning bonded pair are in search of a wonderful aviary full of enrichment to play and thrive in!
They are unaccustomed to human interaction and simply need someone who cares enough to give them the space to be themselves and show off their plumage in style.
They require a balanced diet of paradise pellets, a little seed, and whatever will encourage them to munch on a variety of fresh veg - at the moment they're little corn hounds and that's about it đ
If you think you may have a space in your heart and home for Iggy and Ziggy, please send the admins *A DIRECT MESSAGE*.
Adoption fees apply.

đđđ We hope everyone is keeping cool in this weather đ„” There's been some nasty bushfires around the area today and the last couple of weeks. We want all our followers to know that if anyone needs help with their birds in an emergency, to please contact us. If you need to evacuate your home with your birds due to a fire, please contact us! We have a number of carers around the area who can accommodate birds temporarily and care for them in an emergency. We would hate to see anyone have to leave their feather babies behind because they have nowhere to take them. Boost this post with how your bird's are keeping cool đ here's BJ having a swim in the sink.
Today is services day which means we're hanging out with some rescue birds, and providing services like nail clipping, wing clipping etc. We also have some bird toys, harnesses, and yummy foods for sale. We'll be here til 1pm! Message us for the address if you'd like to attend.
Samson the galah is currently available for adoption! Heâs approx 40 years old, tame and target trained. He loves spending time on your shoulder chattering away, spray bottle mist baths and chewing natural wood toys. He is less comfortable around men and this has manifested into aggressive behaviour as a survival response. Although, he is improving and is usually fine as long as men use acoustic signalling. (Speaking to him with a gentle high pitched voice to calm his nervous system) His carers have been women and he is very comfortable and relaxed in that dynamic. He requires a large cage with an array of perches, enrichment and frequent one-one time outside of the cage. Samsonâs diet consists of daily fresh fruit and veg with nutriblend vetafarm pellets with occasional small amounts of seed and muesli. Located in Glendale NSW. Screening and adoption fees apply. âš
Bella was surrendered two and a half years ago to one of our coorindator's vet clinics, with a self traumatised fat tumour on her wing. She flew like a rock. Amputation was going to be an option if we couldn't get it to shrink and heal up, but luckily, it did with a good diet and some time. Look at her now with her proud little strut đđ
Rainy day preparing more bird toys for upcoming events đ at least you know they have a parrots seal of approval.
ADOPTED ~Cricket the blue quaker parrot~ The other birds featured in this video are beloved pets and are not available for adoption. Cricket appears to be a fairly young quaker approx 5 years old. He loves nothing more than to be a shoulder bird with you around the house. He is social and sweet. His previous NHVBR carer put in the work to help him gain confidence and it absolutely shows. He is far less cage defensive than he was, rarely bites hard and adores attention. Naturally, he cannot be out with other large birds at the same time for his safety. He steps up fairly well. Cricket is still slightly anxious at times and will require a feather-ever home with people who are willing to have patience in him, respect his boundaries and give him daily 1:1 attention outside of his enclosure. He has started plucking but this will be improved with more bonding time and lots of enrichment. He does fly. Just a reminder: despite the size of smaller parrots being less intimidating, this doesnât mean that their boundaries should be overlooked. They are no less of a bird just because they can do less damage. Cricket will make it clear when he does and doesnât want to come out of the cage. Sometimes he just wants an uninterrupted snack. Body language should always be read. Itâs important to not overwhelm the birds beyond what they can handle. Diet: Cricket requires a mix of nutriblend pellets, some seed, muesli, nuts, fresh veg and fruit twice a day. He will need an appropriate sized cage in good condition plus suitable enrichment. Contact the page via messenger if youâre interested. Adoption fees apply âš
For our long time followers, beautiful Jackpot will need no introduction. For those who do not know this beautiful babyâs story, we will give you a brief rundown. Jackpot has been in care with NHVBR for 2 whole years now! And we just cannot understand how he is still searching for his forever home. Jackpot came into care with a badly healed broken wing and was very shy of people. He was teamed up with another fan favourite Yera, however as Yera grew up this pairing started to cause friction. It was this that caused us to make the difficult decision to offer them for adoption separately. Today, Jackpot is still a shy boy, who is fairly quiet and we suspect he is likely a little bit of an older gentleman, although still has plenty of life left to live. Jackpot will step up very sweetly once he gains trust, and loves to cruise around on his carerâs shoulder. Jackpot deserves a wonderful fresh start, and would do amazingly well in a home with a kind, loving and patient person who will work to build a bond with him. Please message us if you are interested in adopting Jackpot. Adoption fees and screening apply
