ATTENTION 🦜

Hi supporters and followers,

It has come to our attention that an individual stating they are a bird rescue is posting in local groups, specifically some Maitland community groups. Be aware that this person is known in Australia wide bird rescue circles as a scammer, and is from the Western Sydney area, not the Hunter Valley.

We are the only registered bird rescue in Newcastle and Hunter Valley region, and whilst anyone can take in birds (and other animals), actual rescues are established with registration details publicly available on the ACNC and demonstrate transparency around how they operate.

We can assist people in finding reputable rescue services Australia wide via our connections, and we would always advise people to do their own research into any rescue before providing support - whether that be financial or otherwise.

Newcastle and Hunter Valley Bird Rescue has detected a copycat scam attempting to duplicate our fbook account AND it links to a fake website.

How to tell if it's actually us

Fbook:
▪︎Look for thousands of followers and a long history of posts.

Messenger:
▪︎Find the NHVBR page with thousands of followers and a history.
▪︎Message us via the button there to confirm that it's us you've been talking to.

Email:
[email protected]

Website:
Pfft, we don't even have a website.
Total scam.

And while y'all are here...
Mind doing us a solid and reporting the hell out of it pls?
🙏🙏🙏

(This is a link to the scam page. It has no likes and 3 followers. To report it, click the link, find the three dots icon, tap on that, and it gives you the option to report a scam)

Can often take a bunch of noise to actually get Facebook's attention.

Your support would be MUCH appreciated,

- The *very tired* Team at NHVBR ❤🦜

Birds in care update: Lollie

This is sweet Lollie. Lollie was surrendered to us quite severely plucked, and had also chewed her skin and caused wounds on her body.

Lollie has been in care for 3 weeks now, and has come such a long way! Lollie is on some medication to assist her with the urge to chew at her feathers and skin, and has had a huge reduction in self mutilating behaviours. Lollie was introduced to a few other cockatiels in care today and seems to be over the moon! Singing and even begging for head scratches. It will still be some time in care before Lollie is able to be placed up for adoption, but we are over the moon with her progress so far!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT -
JUST KEEPING A LOST PET THAT YOU HAVE FOUND SOMEWHERE IS *LITERALLY* STEALING SOMEONE'S PET.

We've had several people recently flat out refuse to either
▪︎Hand a found bird into us (we're fully registered)
or
▪︎Just give us the name of the vet clinic they claim that they intend to hand it in to, so that we can contact the vet to organise intake if they are unable to find the owner through their vetrinary channels.

These birds then end up not being handed in anywhere, dissappear off the face of the earth and then we have to deal with owners trying to claim birds who were never actuallly handed into care despite our best efforts at trying to explain and cajole.

It's all extremely upsetting to be honest.
