Friendly with people, hates most other chinchillas but was living with her Beige daughter listed below and could probably be sold as a pair with her. she’s ready to retire from breeding.

2. Beige female born in April. Beautiful girl, friendly and easy to handle. Can go as a pair with her mother above or by herself.

3. Standard male brothers born in April. Can go together or separately. Sweet and adorable males out of some fantastic lines.

4. “Rocky” Ritterspach bred herd improvement standard male. Also super sweet guy and would make excellent pet.

5. MM K45 1st Place Nationals herd improvement standard male. Available for breeding or as a pet. Timid but does warm up and come up to say hi once he knows you!

Rocky is a handsome and friendly Standard male bred by Jim Ritterspach born 6/19/18. He was purchased as a herd improvement animal and noted by Jim to be extremely dense, blue, good size, blocky, nice white belly. He’s produced many great kits here. He is available as a pet or breeder.

The adult is extremely calm and laid back, likes to be pet and is easy to handle. He is very shy until he knows you. The kit is pretty laid back also and very curious and friendly. The adult chews his own fur so he is included at a very low adoption fee if they can be kept together

3. Young adult extra dark Ebony male (recently started chewing his fur) with a Standard Ebony carrier male kit. The adult is very shy and calm but does warm up once he gets to know you. Another litter of pure Standards today; two boys out of an awesome 1st place KISS Standard female that we brought home from the show in Dec. Dad is a huge Standard bred by us out of our top producing male (D**k) and placed 1st in Dec (held back from placing higher due to poor finish on my part). Super eager to see how these kits turn out even though I don’t need males!

I’ll have four 4-hole runs available sometime this summer or early fall when the new ones arrive if anyone is looking for some CHEAP! 16 holes total with runs in the front. They’re older but in good shape and the pans look pretty new still in most.
Don’t have room to store them once the new ones arrive so would love to find someone who can take them off my hands in a few months!

Fur chewing chins still deserve to be loved.

Owners, if you're struggling with a fur chewer, it's OK.

If you don't know what fur chewing is, let me explain.

Fur chewing, AKA barbering, is when a chinchilla chews it's fur on their chest, sides, rump, tail, or stomach area.

Why do they do this?
Well, commonly it's due to stress in their environment. That doesn't mean you need a bigger cage, more play time, fancy wheels, or to make your home devoid of fun. It usually means that your pet just needs less stress in their environment like, children playing outside vs right next their cage, bright lights being shut off in the evenings and TV volumes being reasonable, not being in a busy area of the home ( like a hall way, or living room, child's room - where they'll be disrupted regularly. )

What also helps is keeping other pets away from the cage, meaning no dogs staring into it, no cats climbing on it, no birds perching on it. Chinchillas are prey animals and predators being right on them is scary.

You can also provide hides so lights, sounds, and other pets are not so bothersome. You can provide chewing alternatives and distractions, too. Ample hay, even a variety of hay so you switch it up every day. Timothy, alfalfa, orchard, blue grass, wheat, the list goes on! Try offering a variety of chew toys too, even if it's a type your pet doesn't like today - tomorrow you could confuse them for a beaver.

You might also be thinking .... " I provide a really calm environment and all those great distractions for my pet already " and honestly I bet you do. Some chins still chew their fur, and it's believed to be a genetic anxiety thing passed down in some lines. This is why we're so crazy about telling people not to breed their pet store / random chins because the genetics are just so random.

Really, mild fur chewing is harmless to most chins. It CAN be a sign of discomfort/ pain too. Maybe your pet sprained a bone, or hurt a rub, it feels arthritis in their tail or spine due to something out of your control before you got them - a vet can help with that, but sometimes they just do it because they're naturally anxious. It shouldn't be a cause for alarm health-wise unless it goes too far. In rare severe cases it can cause hair blockages in their digestive system ( chins are not made to digest fur ) or they can go wild and keep chewing past their fur into their skin - and you'll need medical help and a cone to stop it.

Don't feel like you're a bad owner, because sometimes there is nothing you can do to stop them and you've done nothing wrong - and your pet still deserves to be loved and enjoyed. We still think your fur chewed chinchilla is cute and we still want to see them , I promise. 🫶
