We are sad to announce that due to severe compassion fatigue, Turtle Shire is retiring. This is one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make and it has been a long time coming. Remaining supplies and monetary resources will be donated to local animal shelters and turtle rescues around the country. Thanks to all our generous supporters who made this work possible. Together we have saved hundreds of turtles that will prosper and reproduce, adding even more turtles to the ecosystem. Turtles forever!

Thanks to several recent donations, we've been able to order some medical dressing for Lucy (who is missing the keratin covering of her shell!) and we can take her to the vet! There is also enough money left over for another visit to the vet when someone needs one. Thanks to everyone who has donated! If you're interested in helping the turtles, find a link to our gofundme in the bio.

This fearless box turtle was found crawling through a parking lot. Someone has written on his back in sharpie! A turtle's shell is living tissue and is used to soak up vitamin D. Blocking the sun's rays leads to metabolic bone disease and death. Spread the word... don't write on turtles!

Meet Spooky! Spooky was rescued by a kind-hearted family when their neighbor decided to move and tried to "release" him into the winter weather. His flaky skin is due to prolonged dehydration. Now he's soaking in his water dish, waiting for the warm spring when he will be released!
