Happy Sunday!
I wanted to share with everyone that in reading all the posts/comments about pups with IVDD and watching all the videos posted about various things, I’ve noticed how pups are being picked up and that there is a connection.
As we know, the simplest thing can cause injury, sometimes seriously life threatening, and my intention in sharing my experience is all about prevention. Two ways Doxies can be easily injured while being picked up is either by grabbing their front legs and hoisting them up like lots of people do with young children or like a football. Over all the years I’ve had Dachshunds (7 total … so far anyway), I’ve learned a trick to help safeguard their backs when handling them.
For those interested, what I do (and offer to all who interact with my pups or they don’t pick them up at all) is I put my left hand under their chest while scooping up their behind with my right hand (tucking their tail in, of course. Then, gently lowering them down the same way.
I hope this suggestion helps keep all our beloved fur-babies safe and healthy! Have a blessed day y'all! ❤️🐾🙏
