"Ky Ken's Jade Empress" (Jade) had such a great time during her week at Camp Kacie! π₯° She learned lots of new things & met lots of new friends (canine & human)! This Saturday (11/11/23), she had her show debut in Winston-Salem, NC where she was awarded "Best of Breed" under honorable judge Mr. James A. Moses for her first point toward her AKC Championship title! π₯³ Thank you to everyone on the Wesann's Dog Handling team for loving my sweet Jade & taking such good care of her! The puppies are 12 weeks old! π They just had another vet visit this morning for their 2nd booster shots, another health check, & f***ls. Everyone did great & passed with flying colors! π₯° Two of these puppies (females) are still looking for their furever homes. π‘ I have reduced their adoption fee in the hopes that this will help them find their families. We had another super busy, but extremely fun day today! π₯° I took my two daughters with me on a 2hr drive to the North Augusta, SC show to have our amazing handler, Kacie (Wesann's Dog Handling), evaluate our show prospect puppies and we now have a clear pick! The Green Collar Male from our Gambit x Pepper litter! π We also had a fantastic time playing with several of her clients' dogs & helping hold leads outside the Bluetick ring! What a great day! π₯°

We had a super busy morning taking all 15 puppies (Dawn's 9 & Pepper's 6) to our Vet for their health checks, vaccinations, & f***l checks. They all did fantastic during the car ride & the vet visit! π₯° Thank you Hampton Animal Hospital for always taking great care of our Lhasas! Dr. Sease is the best around!

Dawn's puppies are 5 weeks old & they're experiencing more firsts! π They had their first experience with the clippers when I trimmed their bum & paw pad hairs. I'm proud to say that each pup did really well with the new sounds & sensations of the clippers! π₯° I personally feel that it's extremely important to start exposing them to the grooming process early on. After all, they have a lifetime of grooming ahead of them, so it's best to start them off on the right foot. π They've also had their first romp on the back deck! πUnfortunately, it was cut short by some rain. But that's okay, they'll have loads more chances to get out there & explore. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the video & have a great Sunday! π₯°

Dawn's litter turned 4 weeks old on Friday and they're experiencing lots of changes this week! First, we switched out the velcro collars for the buckle collars. The buckle collars are adjustable as they grow. Next, I set up the playpen area in the living room and they're exploring it for the first time. Finally, I'll be introducing puppy mush later this week and I'll get that on video as well. It's always funny to see who gets the messiest! π₯° Enjoy the video!

Dawn's puppies have their colored I.D. collars on them and I took some individual photos of them! I've chosen to use "warm colors" to identify this litter for 2 main reasons: These colors remind me of a beautiful sunrise, or dawn π
. She is our very first Lhasa and we even named her "Sunshine's Fiery Dawn" bc she was the beginning, or dawn, of our adventure into Lhasas and the show world. These colors also remind me of a beautiful sunset, which is fitting bc this litter is Dawn's last litter, or her sunset litter π. Dawn being retired unexpectedly & at such a young age is very bittersweet for me. π₯Ή Enjoy the photos!

π£ Gambit got mail! π¬ He is officially an AKC Champion! π₯³π He is also the sire of both Dawn & Pepper's beautiful puppies! πΎπ©΅π©· His offspring have so much show potential behind them! β¨οΈ I am SOO excited to watch them grow & mature! π₯°
π£ Yay! More puppies have arrived! ππΎ Join us in welcoming Pepper & Gambit's litter of 6 into the world (3M & 3F)! π Pepper began whelping this morning at 8:30am. She birthed all 6 puppies quickly & easily, no trip to the ER Vet this time, thank goodness! ππ₯°
π£ The puppies are here! π₯³πΎ Join us in welcoming Dawn & Gambit's litter of 9... YES 9 puppies (6M & 3F)!
Story time: Dawn spent most of Thursday evening nesting in her whelping box. Then early Friday morning (6:30am), the first puppy made his appearance. Followed in steady succession by 3 more males and 2 females. Everything was going great! However, after the 6th puppy was born (around 11:30am), Dawn's labor seemed to stall. My gut was telling me something wasn't right. So I decided to take her to an emergency vet clinic to get her checked out and I'm so glad I did. The vet team quickly determined via x-ray that there was indeed a puppy stuck in her birth canal ("shoulder dystocia") with 3 more puppies still in her womb. They confirmed via ultrasound that the 3 puppies behind the stuck one had strong heartbeats & didn't seem to be in distress (yet!). It was decided that the only course of action in that particular situation was an emergency c-section to not only try to save the puppies still within her, but to also save her as well. Unfortunately, the puppy who was stuck didn't make it, but the other 3 puppies did! (2 males & 1 female). Thankfully, Dawn also handled the surgery very well and everyone is now recovering at home. However, we aren't out of the woods yet. As you can imagine, 9 puppies is a very large litter for a Lhasa. I will be doing everything I can to support Dawn & the puppies in these first critical days & weeks to make sure they have everything they need.
I would like to give a HUGE Thank You from the bottom of my heart to New River Veterinary Specialists & their team for their quick action & wonderful care! They not only did a fantastic job caring for my Dawn & her puppies, they also set my heart & mind at ease with their kindness & compassion. π₯°
*Edited to add: For those asking, yes, I decided to spay Dawn following her c-section. As an ethical breeder, I keep the health & happiness of my Lhasas my top priority. Even though this was only her 2nd litter, it was the best decision for her. Plus, I already have an AKC Grand Champion daughter from her 1st litter (my Blair) who can carry on her legacy & wonderful genetics. There also might be a show prospect in this litter as well.π€ππ€ Therefore, Dawn has done her part in helping preserve & improve her breed. It's time for her to enjoy an early retirement! π₯°
π£ Woohoo! π Last weekend in Concord NC, Gambit finished his AKC Championship title! π He was awarded "Winner's Dog" and "Best of Winners" on both Thursday (7/20/23) and Saturday (7/22/2023). π₯³ Thank you to judges Mr. James A.
