I spy a cute furry patient named Earl! 🐶👀

Earl is one of our regulars at the The Oncology Service - Leesburg location. We visit him every few months to perform abdominal ultrasounds and monitor his condition. We make sure he gets extra snuggles as well. To add to his sweet personality, he always does such a wonderful job with the scans! 🙌🏼❤️

Our Board-Certified Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Sarah Dowling, and Veterinary Assistant Ally Kennedy, love having the opportunity to take such special care of Earl. It’s always so refreshing to see familiar faces! We look forward to our next visit. 🎉🎉

This pretty girl is Georgie Girl! 🐶💕

Board-Certified Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Sarah Dowling, and Veterinary Assistant, Ally Kennedy, met her at EMMAvet - Veterinary Care recently for an abdominal ultrasound and then followed up with an upper GI scope to help treat this sweet pup.❤️

Team NoVa took biopsies (and removed some leaves she had been snacking on) and sent them off to EVP. We partner with EVP, who's team of fantastic pathologists evaluate the biopsy samples our Internists provide. Often providing the key piece of information necessary to obtain a diagnosis, we are grateful for their support and expertise!

Georgie Girl was the best baby and we’re wishing her a speedy recovery! 👏🏼🎉🐕

Dr. Sarah Dowling, Board-Certified Small Animal Internist, and Ally, her assistant, recently had the pleasure of meeting with sweet Drover, an 11-year-old Maltipoo at the .

Drover went in for a restaging ultrasound and was the absolute sweetest boy. He was very brave and happy to lay in the trough for his scan. 😍

Thank you to the doctors at The Oncology Service for allowing us to play such an important role in caring for Drover! 🎉🐾

Allow us to introduce this cutie, Riggo. 🐾🐶

Dr. Sarah Dowling and Ally met Riggo at Caring Hands Animal Hospital - Ashburn. Riggo's recent bloodwork presented elevated levels and an abdominal ultrasound was performed to further investigate.

He was such a sweet boy for his scan and we appreciate having the opportunity to participate in his care! ❤️🥰

Dr. Dowling, a Board-Certified Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist, and Ally, a Fear Free Certified Veterinary Assistant, met Bella at Banfield Pet Hospital - Fairfax. Bella has been having some intestinal upset symptoms and elevated liver values, so an abdominal ultrasound was performed to further investigate.

She was the sweetest patient and we are hoping she feels better soon! 🐶💜🐾

Team NoVa recently met with Lilith Mother of Demons at NOVA Cat Clinic. She has been experiencing blood in her urine and Dr. Dowling performed an abdominal ultrasound to investigate further. She was the best girl for her scan and we loved her name so much!

Dr. Surman at Banfield Pet Hospital - Fox Mill recently obtained surgical biopsies on Sasha, a sweet dog. Sasha has a history of elevated liver enzymes, and thanks to Dr. Surman, Dr. Dowling will be able to submit these samples for several specific tests to help obtain answers for her and Sasha’s family. Once a diagnosis has been obtained, Sasha will be started on treatment to manage her condition! 🐾❤️

🏥VetMed Fact: While ultrasound guided or laparoscopic liver biopsies can be performed in most cases, sometimes we recommend larger samples be obtained surgically.

This is what MOVES is all about! Partnering with our community of veterinarians to bring specialty care to the patients without the stress or inconvenience of having to visit another hospital! Team NoVa saw Vigo at The Oncology Service - Leesburg. Unfortunately, Vigo has been diagnosed with cancer and Dr. Dowling performs abdominal ultrasounds every few months to monitor his condition. Fortunately, Vigo is none-the-wiser and feels great!

Dr. Dowling and Ally met Pharaoh at Caring Hands Animal Hospital - Clarendon. Pharaoh’s bloodwork revealed a few abnormalities, and an abdominal ultrasound performed to further investigate.

Dr. Dowling and Ally met Piper at Banfield Pet Hospital - Reston. Piper is a 7 month old baby hound mix that was experiencing some urinary problems, so an abdominal ultrasound was performed to further investigation.

We are hoping Piper feels better soon, and appreciate having the opportunity to participate in her care! 🐶💜🐾

This is Nala, and this is the cup and a half of grass Dr. Dowling retrieved from her stomach! 🙀

Dr. Dowling and Ally were called to Gunston Animal Hospital to perform a foreign body scope using their KARL STORZ endoscopy equipment. While anesthesia is still required, endoscopy allows for a minimally invasive option to retrieve items that shouldn't have been ingested. It avoids more serious complications that can be encountered with surgery, and the recovery is minimal (patients are typically back to normal within a few hours)!

Nala's X-rays showed abnormal material in her stomach, so Dr. Dowling was able to proceed immediately with the endoscopy procedure. Luckily, Team NoVa was able to retrieve the majority of the grass, and we hope that Nala is feeling better and back to her normal self soon! ❤️👏🏻

Team NoVA revisited Vivace at Banfield Pet Hospital in Fairfax, to perform a follow up abdominal ultrasound. Vivace was recently diagnosed with a condition called Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), and he is currently undergoing treatment.

We're thrilled to report the changes noted previously on his abdominal ultrasound have improved, and his mom is doing the absolute best job tracking his progress! We are wishing Vivace a speedy recovery! 🎉🐾😻💜

Team NoVA visited Goose Creek Veterinary Hospital to meet Ragnar. Sweet Ragnar and his emotional support lamb 🐑, belong to one of the great technicians at Goose Creek. This poor boy suffers from severe weight loss, so Dr. Dowling was called to further investigate. 💜🐶

After an abdominal ultrasound was performed, a diagnostic endoscopy was completed to further investigate his GI Tract. Diagnostic endoscopy is a minimally invasive tool that can be used to visualize the inside of the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, and large intestines. It allows Dr. Dowling to look for signs of ulcers, foreign material, masses, or changes to the tissue that would suggest underlying disease like Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Using her Endoscopy equipment, Dr. Dowling is also able to obtain biopsies of the various tissues. We partner with EVP, who's team of fantastic pathologists will evaluate these samples and provide further information as to the cause for Ragnar's symptoms.

One of the main benefits of endoscopy is the minimal recovery required! Typically, once patients recover from the anesthesia, they are good as new and can be discharged the same day!

We hope to get Ragnar’s care team some answers soon so he can be on the road to recovery.

Bee, a cute 7 month old kitten, was seen at Banfield Pet Hospital in Gainesville where x-rays of her abdomen revealed some abnormal fluid accumulation. Dr. Dowling and Ally were called in to further investigate and an abdominal ultrasound was performed.

We are happy to report that most of the fluid had resolved and it appeared everything was clearing up! We hope Bee is back to feeling better soon, and appreciate having been given the opportunity to participate in her care! 😽💜🐾

Dr. Dowling and Ally met Mendel at EMMAvet - Veterinary Urgent Care. Recent lab work revealed Mendel had elevated liver enzymes, and an abdominal ultrasound was performed to further investigate. Mendel was the absolute cutest and best patient for his scan! ❤️🐾🐶

🚨 NEW PARTNER ALERT! 🚨

Dr. Dowling and Ally were invited into Bond Vet in Arlington for the first time recently and the team was so welcoming!

We were in awe of the gorgeous facilities and loved how relaxing it was for the patients. We also couldn't wait to see the Treat Yourself station being utilized 🦴❤️🐾🐶

Team NoVa met sweet little Lulu at Caring Hands Animal Hospital in Ashburn. Lulu had elevated ALP levels, which can suggest an issue with the liver or gall bladder, so an abdominal ultrasound was performed to further investigate.

Sometimes ALP levels can be associated with other conditions, including endocrine disorders, but they are actually normal in young growing pups! Lulu was so sweet for her imaging, and we loved meeting her! 💜🐾🐶

Gastroduodenoscopy turned foreign body removal at Old Dominion Animal Health Center today! This was a challenging but rewarding procedure for all involved. Gastric Foreign Body Endoscopic removal

We had another fantastic day here in NoVA! Today we got to meet Macallan, a SUPER sweet Golden Retriever that likes to munch on things he shouldn't. One of the fun tools we can use to help friends like Macallan is endoscopic foreign body retrieval. Our motto at MOVES is if it went down it can most likely come back up with endoscopy! This non-invasive procedure allowed us to retrieve the toy piece from Macallan's stomach and helped him to avoid needing a more invasive surgery! Macallan's procedure took less than 5 minutes and he will be home this evening snuggling with his owner! We are so grateful that Dr. Capor at VCA Healthy PAWS Medical Center thought of us and using endoscopy for her patients! Go team!
