When Snarf was surrendered to the shelter, she was only 17 pounds. Not because she was sick. She had simply not been fed. She was so thin that she couldnât stand & could barely lift her head. The folks at the shelter took amazing care of her & got her up to 27 pounds.
When Snarf arrived at The Farm, she was so excited to walk the trails with her skinny little b***y & her brand new family. Within a couple months, she reached her âgoal weightâ of 40 pounds. The first time we saw Snarf run, we knew that she was truly healed & finally home. This moment will forever be a shining moment at The Farm.
We are blessed for the two years we got to take care of this unique, free-spirited, silly girl. She was so easy to love, & she made us smile every single day.
Unfortunately, hip dysplasia & age-related muscle wasting meant that she was getting very close to the point of not being able to rise on her own. We didnât want her to experience an inability to walk again, so we made the incredibly difficult decision to say âGoodbye.â Her last day was a good day. She spent time with the people & dogs she loved, she walked through the wildflowers, & she had a double bacon cheeseburger for lunch.
Some Snarf fun facts:
đ Before her first dental, we joked about hoping that her âsnaggle toothâ was healthy because it was just so cute. We were jazzed that it was healthy & didnât have to be removed.
đ Snarf had a signature move on walks. Any time she trotted past a lollygagging dog, she would turn towards them & give a playful snarl. It wasnât malicious. We are pretty sure she was just bragging about how fast she was.
đ Snarfâs unique angled face resulted in some unique daily treatments that she came to enjoy. Her left eye & left nostril (through which she couldnât breathe) were constantly leaky. Luckily, she loved having a warm wet washcloth wiped over her face. Having her boogies removed gave her an extra pep in her step.
đ She LOVED snow. On many occasions, we found her outside when snow was falling, head turned to the sky & eyes closed. Just soaking it in. With all of the annoyance that snow can bring, Snarf would remind us to take a deep breath & enjoy the splendor.
Snarf was a unique dog, a real one of a kind. We are so happy that we got to share Snarfâs life with her & with you.
Finally, we want to share our gratitude. Thank you, Lizzie, for her initial rescue. Thank you, Capital Humane Society and ESPECIALLY Maya, for nursing her back from the brink. Thank you, Optimum Veterinary Medical Group, for two years of incredible care.
Thank YOU for supporting us through the happiest & the hardest times. We couldnât do this without you.
