Online only entries will be accepted within each test level in the order received.
Entries are limited to 35 entries or 8 hours of judging time per judge for the trial day.
A separate registration form is required for each dog.
You can register for Saturday, Sunday, or both days.
A $50 fee will be charged for each dog for each day of entry.
Any other items purchased will be displayed as “Extra Costs” on the Review and Confirm page.
Entries close at 5:00 PM EDT on August 25, 2024, or when trial limits are reached.
No refunds or cancellations will be made after the closing date.

Wilmington Kennel Club Supported Entry and Membership Meeting

The Keystone Portuguese Water Dog Club and the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America will be holding a Supported Entry at the Wilmington Kennel Club Show at the Lum's Pond State Park, 3355 Red Lion Road, Bear DE 19701, on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Portuguese Water Dogs will be showing in Ring # TBD starting at TBD am with Sweepstakes and Veterans Sweepstakes, followed by the Regular Classes at TBD.

The KPWDC will be holding a General Membership Meeting immediately following the PWD's showing in the ring. We plan on providing sandwiches, chips, Philly pretzels and bottled water.

🐾 Eye Clinic for Portuguese Water Dogs 🐾

📅 Date: February 18, 2024
🕒 Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
📍 Location: Doylestown Animal Medical Clinic, 802 N. Easton Rd., Doylestown, PA 18902

👁️ Dr. Gustavo Aguirre, DVM, PhD, PhD (hc), Diplomat, ACVO will be conducting eye exams for Portuguese Water Dogs.

ℹ️ In Portuguese Water Dogs, there are two forms of PRA and other eye diseases leading to blindness. Regular eye exams are crucial for both breeding and non-breeding dogs, contributing to the breed's long-term eye health.

🔍 Exam Details:

Type: OFA ECR general eye exam
Frequency: Annually for breeding dogs, every 2-3 years for non-breeding dogs
Importance: Non-breeding dogs are as vital for the breed's eye health
Results: Dogs with normal test results receive an OFA-ECR registration certificate valid for 12 months
📋 Rules for Exam:

One person per pet allowed in the exam room
Check-in at the desk in the pop tent
Volunteers available for administering pupil-dilating drops
Breeds requiring a double exam have an additional $5.00 fee
No bathroom facilities available
COVID symptoms? Stay home, contact Barbara Weisman for a refund
Pre-paid clinic only, no on-site payments accepted

🔥🐾Stay Informed and Prepare Yourself for Smokey Skies 🔥🐾

We experienced severe air quality in the North East of the US. Unfortunately, the weatherman forecasts that wildfire smoke is far from over this year.

It's crucial to remember that if you can feel the effects of smoke, your pets are likely experiencing them too.

🏠 If you're in an area affected by wildfires or smoke, stay calm and take these steps to ensure your pet's safety:

1️⃣ Keep your pets indoors as much as possible and close all windows to minimize smoke exposure.

2️⃣ Limit your dog's time outdoors to only short bathroom breaks, ensuring they are supervised.

3️⃣ Avoid engaging in long walks or outdoor activities during this time to prevent excessive smoke inhalation.

4️⃣ Be vigilant and watch for signs of smoke inhalation in your pets, such as coughing, difficulty breathing, or excessive wheezing.

Did you know? During wildfires, the air quality can be extremely hazardous, with experts estimating that breathing smoke-filled air for a day is equivalent to smoking around seven ci******es for a human. It's essential to be especially cautious if you have puppies, or senior dogs, as they may be more vulnerable to the effects of smoke.

Remember, your pet's health and well-being are a priority. Stay informed, be prepared, and evacuate safely if necessary. Together, we can ensure the safety of our beloved four-legged companions during challenging times. 🐶💙

📢 Attention all Portuguese Water Dog enthusiasts! 🐾🌊

The Keystone Portuguese Water Dog Club (KPWDC) is excited to announce that we will be holding a practice date at the picturesque Codorus State Park on Saturday, July 29th! 🌞🚣‍♀️🚣‍♂️

This is a perfect opportunity for all our working teams to sharpen their skills and enjoy a day of boating fun. 💦🐾

Here are the important details you need to know:

📅 Date: Saturday, July 29th
⏰ Practice Time: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
📍 Location: Codorus State Park
💵 Cost: $15 per session (morning or afternoon)

Please remember the following instructions for a smooth registration process:

🐶 Each working team should sign up for either a morning or afternoon session.
📝 Please submit a separate registration for each dog participating.
🛶 The registration fee covers the cost of towing the boats to and from the site.

Teams will need to coordinate their schedules for rowers and stewards. Morning teams will be required to assist with unloading the boats and setting markers, while late afternoon teams will help load the boats onto the trailer.

We can't wait to see all of you there, ready to make a splash on the water! 🌊🐾

🐾🎇 Ensuring the Safety of Our Furry Friends During 4th of July Fireworks! 🎇🐾

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, let's take a moment to remember the importance of keeping our beloved pets safe during fireworks. The loud noises and bright lights can be overwhelming for our furry friends, so here are some tips to help them feel secure:

1️⃣ Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet and comfortable area in your home where your dog can retreat to during the fireworks. Close windows and curtains to minimize noise and visual stimuli.

2️⃣ Provide Comforting Sounds: Play soothing music or turn on the TV to help drown out the noise of the fireworks. The familiar sounds can help to relax your dog and provide a sense of security.

3️⃣ Keep Them Indoors: During the fireworks display, it's best to keep your dogs indoors. Even if they are usually comfortable outside, the loud noises can cause them to panic and potentially run away.

4️⃣ Ensure Identification: Make sure your dog is wearing a collar with an updated ID tag. In case they do get scared and manage to escape, it will increase the chances of them being reunited with you quickly.

5️⃣ Avoid Firework Exposure: It's important to avoid bringing your dog to firework displays. The loud noises, bright lights, and large crowds can be extremely stressful for them.

Please note that these open practice dates do not require registration, and our boats will not be available during these sessions. It's a fantastic opportunity to practice and connect with fellow KPWDC members.

We have some exciting news about our upcoming Supported Entry event on Sunday, April 30th. We are happy to announce that we have a total of 14 Portuguese Water Dogs entered, with 4 dogs and 3 bi***es in the Sweepstakes category, 6 class dogs and 5 class bi***es in the Regular category, and 3 special (champion) dogs in the Best of Breed category.

Come and watch some of the most beautiful Portuguese Water Dogs starting with Sweepstakes and Veterans Sweepstakes, followed by the Regular Classes. It's guaranteed to be a pawsome day for everyone!
After the PWD's showing in the ring, the KPWDC is holding a General Membership Meeting with some yummy refreshments including sandwiches, chips, Philly pretzels, desserts, and bottled water. We'll also be holding a raffle, so don't forget to sign up and donate an item or two to support our cause!

📣 Calling all Portuguese Water Dog owners! 🐶👀
Mark your calendars for the Spring Eye Clinic 2023, happening on April 16th at Country Companion Animal Hospital in Morgantown, PA. This year's clinic is open exclusively to KPWDC members, and will feature a comprehensive eye exam by Dr. Gustavo Aguirre, a renowned veterinary ophthalmologist.
Regular eye exams are essential for maintaining the long-term health of the breed, whether you're a show dog handler, performance competitor, or simply a loving pet parent. We encourage you to register your furry friend for an OFA ECR exam, which screens for genetic and non-genetic abnormalities.

Meet Dreamer!

“It has been quite a summer for Dreamer and I. AKA Windruff Dreamweaver CGCA, TKI, ORT NW1 L1C L1I CL1R CL1F RN(pending), WWD

In May we earned our NACSW level1E-containers title (we had earned our NW 1 title in Dec)

In August 14 we submitted our 3rd virtual Rally Novice performance (it is pending)

Aygust 21, 22 at The keystone Water Trial we earned our WWD, an a 2nd leg toward a WWDX.

August 29th at Flexible Flyers we had 3bruns, 3 Qs, 3 first places and 2 titles, CL1R, Cl1 F

I am so proud of our girl who is showing how versatile this wonderful breed can be.”

Windruff Dreamweaver was bred by Carol Mattingly and Ann Bowley. Dreamer lives with Linda Strauch, her training partner, who owns her heart.

“Hello! My name is Kody.

I am 8 years old and live in Newark Delaware!

My parents are Rick and Kelly Jones, but I have two hooman sisters Kaitlyn and Meghan, with a doggy sister named Josie!

I am very smart and love learning new tricks from my dad. So far I can rollover, sit, lay down, play dead, shake, and high five (thats just the beginning though)! When I am not in my dads doggy school I love to snuggle and my family loves when I snuggle with them too!

After the hard work day and I get my dinner, my favorite thing is my chew toy I get for a little. Unfortunately my mom has to take it away (sometimes I try to put up a fight) because she thinks I am going to eat it. I mean she is not wrong, but I can’t help myself! It is just so yummy!!

My other favorite game to play is hide and seek! My family thinks they are so smart when they hide, but they cannot beat this nose!! My nose lets me know when my hoomans are eating some of my favorite foods! In case you are wondering because the holiday season is coming up, I really love bananas, green beans, and apples!!

Our next feature is Mokey!!

“Mokey and I traveled across the state of PA last month to attend our very first Water Trial! It was an experience that I looked forward to with much anticipation and excitement. The site at Codorus State Park was beautiful, with a beach very similar to the lake we’ve been practicing at near our home in Pittsburgh.

Everybody that I met was so friendly and supportive, and I was thankful to receive some great bits of advice from other competitors, which helped calm my nerves. I was very proud of Mokey for passing JWD on her first attempt!
I was impressed with how smoothly the trial ran and how organized everything was. Thanks so much to all of the volunteers who helped make this possible, especially considering that there were some major last-minute changes that had to be made.

I think that my favorite part of the trial was watching the other teams compete. So much can be learned through the process of observation, and I tried to soak in as much as I could.

I was moved to tears on more than one occasion while watching the dogs work! This breed is so amazing – to witness them doing what they were bred to do at my first water trial was a very powerful experience, and one that I will never forget.” -Sarah DePaoli

“Our first water trial.

We did it! Pepper is a Junior Water dog. What a great experience with my dog. She is feisty and I was certain she wouldn’t swim with me; but she did. I am elated.

We had productive practices on the Chester River with Judy, Marianne, Brian, Karen, Sandy, and Bob. I learned so much on those days. We also had a great training day at Codorus on August 7th. Pepper and I had a lot of help from Cindy, Marylou, Harry, and Benita.

The Portie people at the Water Trial were supportive, encouraging, and helpful and shared many great training tips. I learned a lot watching the teams working toward Apprentice, Working, Courier and Master Water Dog. The Water Trial weekend was well organized. There was a palpable spirit of anticipation all weekend even with the rain on Sunday.
