Let's all touch on a big subject that sits in my thoughts a lot...

Breeder respect

To me, it is so important to respect all of the reputable and legit breeders someone comes across. There is a reason we all decided to do what we do. I get asked all the time why I refer clients to other breeders if I don't have what they're looking for, or don't have room on my waitlist.

Here's the reason:

When beginning this journey in 2020, I have talked to all kinds of breeders, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I've come across some of the most fabulous people in this community, have added to my program from some of these breeders, have learned so many things, both good and bad. Mutual respect towards others in the same lifestyle you choose to be in results in knowledge, contacts, clients, and so many new ways of doing things for the betterment of the breed, as well as your business...if that's your life goal.

Most of the breeders I've met are respectful, some not so much. I'm not much of a fan of the breeders who are short and to the point...simply because I want to know everything about the pup I'm interested in.

So...to the breeders who have impacted my life and who I have developed friendships with....you guys rock and I love y'all. Keep doing what you're doing and you will forever have my respect!

(Yes, I am an empath...I get in my feelings occasionally 😉)

With puppies coming soon, I'd like to make a post about puppy care

TAKING CARE OF YOUR NEW PUPPY

The first few days are incredibly important to the well being of your new puppy. Please read these instructions carefully and keep them for future reference.

STRESS: No matter how much you love your new puppy, it is going to experience stress. Leaving everything that is secure and familiar to him/her is going to cause some fear and confusion. It is so vital to recognize the signs of stress and help your puppy through this tough time. Signs of stress in a puppy can be timidity, failure to eat, lethargy, diarrhea or vomiting, and crying. Please be patient with your puppy. He's looking to you to comfort, protect and lead him. You should pick up your new puppy when you have at least a day or two to spend with him before leaving him alone. If you are off of work on weekends, pick up your puppy on Friday or Saturday and make plans to spend the weekend making him a priority or take a day off of work if you have to. It's cruel to bring a puppy into a completely unfamiliar environment and then leave him alone for 8-10 hours while you go off to work. If possible, come home for lunch if you work, or ask a friend to check in on him.

FAILURE TO EAT: Your puppy must eat often to survive. If he's off his feed, give him a food supplement such as Nutri-Drops or Nutri-Cal. This will keep blood sugar levels stable. You MUST entice him to eat. Cook him some chicken or a hamburger if you have to, But make sure that she/he eats. The Nutri-Drops/Nurti-Cal is only a short term fix. But they can be a life saver if your puppy ever gets sick, overheated, chilled, injured, or stressed.

FEEDING YOUR PUPPY: Yorkies are nibblers. Make food and water available to him/her AT ALL TIMES-24/7. Yorkie puppies eat very small quantities at a time so you cannot put them on a once or twice daily feeding schedule like some dogs. This may be difficult if you have other breeds in the home, but it is vital that you heed this advise. If you plan on changing him/her to another food, do it slowly or your puppy may get diarrhea or may stop eating. Changing food is NOT recommended for at least 6 months. If your puppy is very small you may wish to supplement with a little goats milk daily. Goats milk can be found in the upper end grocery stores in the diary section next to soy milk. It is also located in the section near evaporated milk. If you use the canned remember it is condensed and must be cut 1/2 to 1/2 with water.

IF YOUR PUPPY IS SICK: Seek professional help. CALL YOUR VETERINARIAN. You have chosen to have a tiny breed as your new family member. With tiny breeds such as Yorkies, you must act quickly if your puppy becomes ill. Their size prohibits waiting to get help.

ALLOW YOUR PUPPY TIME TO REST: A good rule of thumb for tiny puppies is 15 minutes of play requires 45 minutes of rest. It is important at a young age not to wear them out. Like children, they don't know when to quit sometimes. Make sure never to leave a tiny puppy unattended with small children. Teach children to allow the puppy time to rest. If the puppy has been playing hard let him sleep.

GROOMING & BATHING: Always comb/brush your puppy "before" bathing and after drying. Make sure you use an ear cleaner and blow dry the ears completely. Yorkies require regular brushing to maintain their beautiful hair coats and to avoid painful matting of the hair. For cleanliness, trim hair around buttocks and ge***al areas at least twice a week. Yorkies tend to grow hair that covers the a**s and that blocks f***s and they become impacted. Gently using beard trimmers around that area weekly will prevent this. Be careful not to injure the protruding a**s. Bathe your puppy as needed or every couple of weeks. Bathing too often can cause dry skin and hair. Coconut Oil is excellent both as a conditioner and a food supplement. Just put a teaspoon on their food. Be sure and clean around the eyes a couple of times per week. Those eye secretions can cause an eye infection. So if you do butts, eyes, regular brushing, shampoo with conditioner every other week you can postpone trips to the groomers until after your puppy is fully immunized and on flea and heartworm protection. Most importantly, comb from the base of the hair to the top to prevent under matting. Begin doing this immediately and continue at least every other night until matting is no longer an issue. While combing EVERY night, rub your puppies feet and ears to get them used to being touched for future ease on them and the groomer. This combing will get to mats before they become a problem.

PADS & NAILS: We use small safety scissors (nose hair scissors) to trim the pads of the feet, hair grows from between them and it should be trimmed to at least where the hair is level with the paws themselves. Trimming nails should be done with almost each bath. Trim the hair around the foot at this time. The feet should be rounded following the outline of the foot itself before bathing. I use cuticle nippers for the first few months for cutting toenails.

POTTY: Caution should be used in selecting where your puppy goes if you take it outside. Two deadly diseases, Parvo and Distemper can stay in the soil for seven years. When traveling with our dogs never "walk" them in the "doggie areas" until all immunizations are complete. Your puppy has had his/her 1st shots (8 weeks old) and will need the entire series of 3. Rabies is given after the 3rd set of immunizations. Then they will need boosters every year. Keep your puppy away from other dog f***s and urine. If you take him/her out, carry them. Do not let their feet down in strange unprotected areas. Avoid the groomers until your puppy is immunized. When at the Vets office carry your puppy in. Remember sick dogs go to groomers and to the Vets.
Be consistent, gentle, and understanding, as this puppy is just a baby. Training your puppy to potty on pads inside a small confined area is by far the easiest method of housebreaking, especially since it will come naturally to them not to potty in their bed. All of our puppies are partially housebroken to go on potty pads inside and outside their playpen. A gated area of the floor is an excellent way of allowing your puppy freedom while learning to use the pads.
Use lots of praise when you puppy actually potties on the potty pads outside their playpen as well and when he/she goes outside. The best time for training is after the puppy eats or wakes up from a nap. They usually will potty within 10-15 minutes. Keep an eye on your puppy and when they look like they are about to potty, take them to the nearest pad. If they get anything on the pad, give them lots of praise!
This process could take few weeks to a few months, so, like any other training procedure, have patience. In addition, a very young puppy will not be able to hold its urine all night, so be prepared to take her out during the night or allow them to use their pad. Rush the puppy to the door or carry her so she can avoid an accident. Watch to be sure that she relieves herself once you are outside and give a reward immediately.

TRAINING AND SPECIAL NOTES: Your puppy might be nervous in their new environment. Everything from sights, smells, people, etc. is strange and very new to them. You have to allow new puppies to explore their new home and encourage them to play. Try not to pick them up too much the first couple of days and play with them on the floor in their eye level rather than your couch or table. Remember to them you are a giant !! When you speak to your new puppy, you need to speak quietly and calmly in your lowest voice. Training can be effective with a can of coins rattled but the most effective method is repetition, repetition and reward reward.

I'm going to start back up with the weekly informational posts.

Today's topic...registration papers.

I've run into a lot of people who have "yorkies" and tell me " oh well I have his ckc/akc papers...he/she is purebred." And the dog in question is as far from being a purebred Yorkie as a great Dane.

Your registration papers are only as authentic as your breeder. Every single day, people use false info to register their dogs and puppies with the registration companies. I'll give you an example of this madness:

Let's say a breeder has akc and ckc dogs in their program. And the akc dogs have been DNA and health tested but the ckc dogs haven't. They decide to DNA the ckc dogs and find out they aren't full blooded yorkies. So, in order to make more, they take the akc info on the full blood yorkies and apply it to the ckc puppies....making it appear that the "akc" puppy you just got is full blooded...when in all truth, you were scammed into getting a mix. You may ask, 'Does this really happen?' YES! This occurrence is mainly from BYBs.

Thanks to these individuals, akc is not as trusted as it once was. You can only be grandfathered in with akc, meaning your dog must have ancestors who began with akc. Now with ckc, you can registered a non registered dog. However, ckc does not require DNA testing to prove pure bred lines. It's a mess. Yes there are other registration sites, ukc, ckc (Canadian Kennel Club), Apri, GYBR, nkc, etc. However, the 2 most common and well known are AKC and CKC (continental Kennel Club). I'm not sure of the other companies' guidelines except GYBR, which requires males to be DNA tested and microchipped and females to just be microchipped.

The biggest thing to take away from this...only trust the trustworthy breeders. DNA and genetic health testing is essential to keeping purebred dogs from turning into mix breeds. If you are wanting to become a breeder, it needs to start with testing and being very selective on your mating dogs. You can't just get 2 random yorkies, mate them, and keep it going without eventual issues.

On this post, I will leave commenting open. Please keep it respectful. Remember: as adults we can all have differing opinions without being rude to one another.

Happy First Day of Spring! Love you guys!
Erika

Bath and groom day for this bunch!

I have yet to cut any hair off of Diamond because you're not really supposed to until they are at least 6 months old...which she is. But I love her hair lol.

After brushing her out, I decided to try and see how she would do with my little mini clippers to trim her ears, potty area, and paw pads. After turning the clippers on and sitting them beside her for a few minutes, I trimmed her paw pads. Not a single problem!

When grooming your babies, it's very important to stay calm with them and go slow when introducing new tools. Patience wins the grooming game I promise. So she is freshly bathed, combed, nails clipped and do floofy right now she could be a pillow lol.

Oh and she's super spoiled and passes out when her belly gets lots of love lol

Hey guys!!

We are 2 weeks in and Bella G has very early signs of being pregnant! (Yes, if you know what to look for, sometimes you can visually tell this early...especially if you know your dog!) We have 5 weeks until xray for puppy counts, 7 weeks until estimated due date! It's amazing how time seems to stand still and then fly at the same time.

Currently, I have one spot open for a girl on my waitlist. After that gets taken, I won't be taking anymore names until puppies are here in late April. In order to be on the waitlist, completed adoption application is a must, plus your reservation fee.

These puppies are always fantastic, healthy, with great temperaments. Boomer and Bella puppies never disappoint. Her previous litters were 5 pups and 6 pups so this momma has bigger litters. Going by previous puppies, average weights are between 4 and 5 pounds.

If you have any questions, feel free to pm me. Or if you want to speak with any of my previous puppy I can provide a few of those names as well!

And it begins 😍

People ask me all the time "how do you know that she's pregnant so soon?"

This is how. Bella G is already clingy..has been since the day we brought her home. BUT...pregnancy kicks it into overdrive. She will have to be touching me at all times for the next 8 weeks.

As a breeder, knowing your dogs is essential! If you don't know your dog, you definitely need to correct that. It's very important for your breeding success...and more importantly, the relationship between you and your dog.

When you have multiple dogs and you can tell who's who by barks, whines, walking pattern, whose hair is touching you while you sleep, and yes, poop....you have it nailed 😉 🤣😳

Side note: maybe I'm just crazy 🤪

As promised, here are some updated puppy pics!

20/02/2022

With puppies coming in the near future, I just want to clear a few things up.

My puppies are almost always reserved to APPROVED families before 6 weeks old. To be approved, I do require the adoption application to be completed and sent back to me before they are born. Having the application allows me to contact your references, your vet, and converse with you over their first few weeks in this world. If I do not have the completed application from each interested family by the beginning of puppy week...which is always announced on this page...your name will be moved to the next waitlist and I will be moving on to the next family who has a completed application and have made the effort for us to get to know each other.

As of today, Sunday, February 20, 2022, I have 3 completed applications...which are 1st boy and 2 without a preference on gender.

Secondly, stop calling me about Diamond! She is a puppy for goodness sake! She will not become a momma until she is old enough and has all of her tests and vet clearance...and I'm ready. This girl is 5 months old! I will not be starting a waitlist for her until I am good and ready people! Those of you who have called me about wanting a pup off of her WILL NEVER GET ONE! Proper breeding takes time, testing, vet checks, reproductive vet checks, $$, etc. Y'all that have asked if she will be having a litter this year don't give a s**t about dogs. And rest assured, if you have asked me these bizarre questions, you will not be on any waitlist of mine. Just because she is the size she is doesn't mean she's ready to make babies! Puppies can not have puppies! Yes, she's gorgeous...yes, she has great features, and yes, she will be making pretty puppies. But I am not risking her life to please incompetent fools. When her time comes for motherhood, her waitlist will be STRICT! Not only are you going to have to impress me, you are going to have to impress her breeder as well. And good luck doing that guys! I adore her breeder and watched the way she did things for 18 months before having the opportunity to become Diamond's mom. Which leads me to my next topic concerning Diamond. IF YOU ARE A BREEDER and you want to get a puppy from Diamond NEXT YEAR, we need to start talking now. If you do not health test, DNA test, do patella checks, have a trusting repro vet....do not even ask to get a pup to breed from Diamonds lines. Not gonna happen. Her breeder has worked tirelessly to build her lines and I will not be responsible for screwing that up. So, her puppies will be pets only unless you are a trusting breeder and we get to know each other way before her motherhood days start. Period.

Lastly, Boomer and Bella have made a couple of love connections yesterday and today. So puppies will be in our future soon. If you are interested in getting a puppy from this litter, feel free to contact me. You will have to be placed on my waitlist and again, ADOPTION APPLICATION COMPLETED before a puppy is reserved in your name. It is your responsibility to complete the application. I will not bug you, call you, message you reminding you to get it done. I ain't ya momma.

I will only be using Gooddog, cash or money orders for waitlists and reservations for my program. Please keep this in mind before placing.

For reference, I will post pictures of September 2021 litter ( 3 girls, 2 boys) and February 2021 litter (6 boys) in just a bit. Stay tuned.

20/02/2022

We've have had 2 successful ties with Boomer and Bella! Going by that, first puppy due date is April 23rd!!! Xray will be happening around mid April to count babies!!

19/02/2022

We've got huge things coming into play over the next few months. We will be adding a new breed into our program so my program name will be changing a bit! So a huge shout out to a breeder I chatted with earlier today! I'm so tremendously excited to jump into this world! My little girl was born yesterday in this litter! Breed will not be announced until she is home with me in a few months!

New program name ideas wanted. Still want to incorporate Yorkie Prints in some way. Any ideas?

17/02/2022

We should be expecting some puppy dancing over the next few days! That will put puppies being ready by July 1st...just in time for some 4th of July BBQing! First 4 pups are reserved. We will be doing an xray around April 14th or so to see how many we are yo expect! After pups are born, I will go down my list for reservations if there are puppies available to reserve. If you want to be on my list for future litters, feel free to pm me. We will have some big things happening over the next year or so!

Hey everyone!

I'm sure everyone has heard about the new P2P issue with all if the easy pay apps (paypal, venmo, cashapp, etc). In light of this, I will no longer be using these for transactions. Starting now, you have the option to either p@y c@$h, do a money order, or my preferred method which is gooddog.com. I am a verified breeder through gooddog and all transactions are legit. Also free of ch@rge. This way your transactions are recorded and they protect you and me both. I can send you my link to use anytime.

https://pay.gooddog.com/yorkie-prints-alabama

Bella G is on day 3 of her heat so 7 more to go before some love dancing! I'm very excited about this litter due to the fact that one of my puppy parents from September's litter will be getting another of my pups! I'll have 2 pups in the same household for the first time!

Also. After a huge issue with one of my February 2021 pups, I will now be microchipping each puppy at their vet appointment when they get their first set of vaccines...if big enough. It is very important for you to register your puppy's chip! To safeguard your baby's life you need to meet me halfway on their care. I will do everything in my power to take care of these babies before going to their new homes. They are mine first, guys, so their livelihood matters a great deal to me.

Lastly, and honestly I'm not even sure why this has come up...but my puppy care package is not a negotiable thing to try to talk me down cheaper. Like come on...I love my dogs and their pups so I want their transition to the new homes to be as easy as possible. To help with this, I provide 95% of their first week's (at least!) necessities. THIS IS A FAVOR TO YOU. Do you really want to go pick up your pup, run to petsmart/petco/etc, risk your tiny pup catching something (like PARVO!), scramble to get food, beds, blankets, toys, all the things, have strangers touching your pup (again RISK!), when it is just easier for you (and your wallet) to pick them up with your pup? Brains are free, guys. Use them.

I love you guys...even those of you that make me go 'hmmm'. 🙄🤣🥰

My bonded pair. Her guardian...His adoration.

These two have been bonded since the day we got her in December 2019. They're shadows of each other. Both are perfectly content laying on the couch on their pillow mountain by their window most of the day.

They are perfect. 😍🥰
