This is Ikseong Joo, his wife Li, their children Bryan & Hannah, and their 100 lb male German Shepherd named Teacup. Teacup, who is now 9, has been boarding with EF5 K9 every year and often twice a year since his Board & Train in 2015. I’ve enjoyed watching him (and the kids) grow up and look forward to every time he comes to stay.

This year marks the 10th anniversary for EF5 K9 Dog Training. While I train my personal dogs in the German protection sport of Schutzhund, my purpose for EF5 K9 was and still is to help and train the large back yard dog and their owners. I remember the many ads during those 10 years that read something like “Tired of your big dog taking you for a walk?”, or “Does your dog only listen when it is convenient for him?’ or “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” Henry Ford

They have been good years for me. Some clients have been boarding with me ever since we did the original Board & Train. Some have become personal friends, many have given referrals. I have personally learned a lot about reading dogs and getting them to want to work for me in the one week I have them. I’ve learned a lot about how different breeds really do think differently. I’ve trained puppies at that perfect imprinting stage of 8 – 16 weeks, and trained dogs as old as 8. They all have one thing in common: they are ALL teachable.

Over 550 dogs have completed training with EF5 K9. Thank you, clients for trusting me with your best friends and pets. Thank you for trusting me enough to call for advise when you are purchasing a new dog or when a new situation arises that you are unsure of. Most of all, I thank God for giving me the desire and ability to teach and to train. It is only because of HIM that EF5 K9 can celebrate “Training since 2014.”

This is Fenrir. He is a 3 year old AKC intact male that is needing a permanent home. He is large, around 90 - 95 lbs (but over wieght) He has Level I oebedience and is good with other dogs, but would not recommend homing him with another male. and good with children. Fen is very sociable , but totally insane about chasing birds. 🙃 Please message me for details. He is located in Oklahoma City, I will try to provide a better picture in the next few days.

This is Katja. We have been on quite a journey together pursuing the sport of Schutzhund and the titles that can be earned. I have learned so much from her and am so thankful for her patience toward me as her handler. I am also convinced that she is one of the easiest dogs out there to handle in Protection, which seems to be her favorite exercise. Last weekend we finally achieved the long sought-after goal and title of IGP3, a first for both of us. I couldn’t ask for a better dog to have learned with. I got to thinking how sad it is that she has an IGP 3 and cannot have puppies. But then I realized, I also have an IGP3 and I can’t have puppies either.  Proud of you girly, girl.

This is Sully’s Lili Von Shtupp, a 9 month old AKC registered female. Lili came to EF9 K9 for training at the end of August. Shortly after completing one week of Board & Train, her owner’s husband tragically passed away, leaving a single mom with two small children. Lili has a nervous energy that I believe will diminish with time if someone will spend time with her. Her owner simply cannot do that right now and must offer her for sale. She is crate trained, fully vaccinated, microchipped, has completed Levels 1 and 2 through EF5 K9. She has been raised with children, but Ideally, I believe she would do best with a retired individual who needs a best friend. She is not a good dog for an inexperienced handler. She has not been spayed and just went through her first heat. She does not potty in her 5 x 10 kennel, but her house breaking will need a little work. I am offering 5 free lessons to her new owner to make sure they know how to handle her and unlimited phone help. What is a Dog Handler?
What is a dog handler verses a dog owner? Merriam Webster defines a dog handler as “A person who trains or controls a dog” and a dog owner as “A person who owns and has the responsibility of the care for a dog.” As a dog owner, it is your responsibility to feed, shelter, provide medical care, and contain your dog. I don’t think I have to persuade you that not all dog owners are dog handlers, but the two should be inseparable. Before we consider the relationship that should exist between a dog handler and his dog, let’s look at a few desirable traits of a good dog handler.
1. Be teachable. Make sure that you, the teacher, are educated before you start trying to train. I have always been amazed at any teacher who refuses to be taught. If you desire a willing student, you need to be willing; if you desire a flexible student, you need to be flexible. Don’t ask of your student – your dog – to be what you are not willing to be.
2. Be protective. Your dog, especially your puppy, looks to you for protection. Don’t place them in situations where they could be harmed by other dogs or people.
3. Be informed. Spend the time you need to know your dog and for your dog to know you. Know his temperament; know his ability to learn and understand according to his age; know what he responds to as a reward. Be willing to use variety to find out. Don’t compare; they are all different.

The 23rd is the big day. I will be taking Katja to the vet for her ultrasound. This breeding represents 7 generations of titled working dogs on both sides. This will be the "B" litter for Euroclydon German Shepherd Dogs. If this was the "C" litter, I could name the puppies things like Covid, or Corona, or...oh, ok, maybe not. However, this breeding DID indeed take place in the middle of me having Covid. Oh the things dog people will do.
