A big congratulations to Brian Olson! Brian won Best of Show at the Missouri Taxidermy Association’s 2024 competition with his open mouth Whitetail doe. I’m especially happy for Brian because this deer has one of the eyes I made to test out the D-2432 Taxi-Eye molds. This deer is actually the first deer mounted with a Taxi-Eye!

First eyes out of the new size molds. This is the D-2432 eye (24 mm iris, 32 mm sclera). This is the same size as most glass eye vendors’ 30 mm. I will have a very limited number of molds available at the world show along with some awesome anatomy models. Most commercial eyes are very “sterile” looking. Making an organic looking eye with pupil depth and the visual effect of refraction is what sets this eye apart from the commercial eyes. Maybe a set of these will be in a whitetail at the WTC!

A little experimenting with dilated and reflective eyes (or both at the same time). Here’s a few of the initial results. The effect can be completely customized to the color and effect that you desire. As I develop eyes for other species the color reflected can be correct for each species. The possibilities in making custom eyes is endless!

A little research and development on the versatility of using a Taxi-Eye mold and custom making your own eyes. This eye is just being tested with water. Reflective eyes, dilated eyes, or both dilated and reflective! A deer pack mount would would look much more realistic with a dead looking eye.
The first mold set is in a the mail!! Cheers!

Re-sculpted this eye so a back can be screwed to the eye to help with rotation. It can truly be an “eyeball” with that addition. Still playing with some painting techniques to achieve an organic look to the sclera, something that is definitely lacking in commercial eyes. I will be sending a kit out for a field test within the next month.

Working on new mold designs. Huge progress. Trying out pan pastels on this Leucistic deer eye. A few more design changes to be made before the molds will be available for purchase.
