Eddie’s case was on Cyprus TV yesterday, Natasha Michaelides outlined the events and further discussed the thousands of stray dogs, the sad reality that many are now euthanised as shelters are over flowing, many packs now exist in Cyprus and multiplying each day with new puppies. She further affirmed that Eddie is indeed a shocking case, but it’s one of many that volunteers are dealing with on a daily basis. She outlined that our laws are not stringent enough, parliament is avoiding the improvement of the laws as the power of the hunters and their personal gains are more important, it’s easy to simply throw any dog away as it’s difficult to prosecute and fine owners. Animal Police in Cyprus, rarely answer calls, and when they do attend an abusive situation the best outcome we ever get is a dog is confiscated. We have an impossible mountain to climb… no one has answers, the volunteers and rescue organisations are exhausted and the stray population in Cyprus is now 6 times worse than 10 years ago, with less shelters and energy by those still on the ground. EDDIE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING ⭐️⭐️💕 EDDIE - RESCUED Jan 16, 2025 @ 6:53 PM from a GARBAGE BIN in Peyia, Cyprus HIS COURAGEOUS UPDATE – Jan 28, 2025 (13 days later) Eddie, a resilient soul who’s been through more than most of us could imagine. Thrown away like garbage, discarded to suffocate and die in a bin, Eddie was given a second chance at life, and he’s fighting with everything he has to embrace it. Since being rescued, Eddie has made incredible progress. He’s still gaining weight, regaining strength, and working on his coordination and balance, but his spirit is as strong as ever. Though he’s not fully out of the woods yet, we’re being optimistic about his recovery. His teeth are in very poor condition and his ears are also infected. Once he’s stable enough, Eddie will undergo surgery to remove a tumor from his thyroid, a big step towards getting him back to full health. The good news? Eddie is now in FOSTER CARE with a wonderful lady who also has a rescue dog from the island. In his new home, Eddie has a loving companion who will teach him everything he needs to know about house living and show him just how abundant love can and should be. No more harm, no more fear—only safety, warmth, and kindness from here on out. Eddie’s courage is a testament for all other animals suffering from animal abuse, that there are good people out there that truly care and will do everything they can to help. This is a very unusual case, a man has been arrested and held in Custody until Monday, therefore we cannot presently accept any donations. Once the legalities and formalities are further outlined to us, of course we will update everyone and raise any funds he may need. STAR has already committed to the Vet and any care that Eddie may need, he will have everything he needs and only ever sleep on sofas and eat the best food from here on !! Whatever the outcome of the police, Eddie will not be returned to the original owner, This will never ever happen !! To also put a little smile on your face, this is Eddie this morning having his breakfast and enjoying time outside in the sun.
