It was such a beautiful day to work with these ladies today! 😃🤠

This clinic was a private clinic that these ladies wanted to book with me. It was a great opportunity to meet up with their riding buddies and learn at the same time!

We worked on several groundwork and under-saddle exercises with the goal of getting to know their horses better, learn new things, and work on a spring tune-up.

Thanks for coming out, ladies!

It's a lot of work, but it's satisfying to look at the finished product! 👌

After a break, Lucky is back to training. I have been focusing on body-control, softening his face to my hands, and now lots of trailriding! He is quite the trailblazer — from crossing logs to crossing water, uphill, downhill, and in-between trees (without skinning my knees off on them)!

"It ain't easy to put
Imperfect on a page
Admit there's things I need to change
To say what I'm about to say
I've got issues,
I'm anything but figured out
And, oh, I feel much better now
That I just said those words out loud

I'm a work in progress
I'm a not quite there yet
A little rough around the edges
Yeah, it's true
A long way from perfect
As long as He's still working
I'm a work in progress
So, don't give up on me yet"

This song is so good! It applies to life as well as horsemanship.
You have to be able to recognize you have things to work on before you can get anywhere.

These girls worked so hard and did such a good job with their horses!

We worked on groundwork, body-control on the ground and in the saddle, stopping, backing, softness to the bit, and ended with going over the outdoor obstacle course.

Well that went fast!
Stetson is now at his new home! I am so excited for him and his new family. 😊
This boy is one of the sweetest, most fun little horse that I have worked with. He is always up for a little work and adventure. 😃😍 He will be missed here, for sure, but will get just as much love, if not more, at his new home as he did here!

Chime digging her way to China! 🤪
Chime came in last week. I started her a few years ago, but didn't get a chance to trailride her and expose her to much. She is a super sweet little mare and looks so much like my own mare, Pixie. 😄
Chime is easily spooked, so I'm glad she is here at the ranch, because there is always a lot going on, from kids to bikes to tractors, that will help desensitize her. 😉

Y'all want a recipe for a good horse?
Long rides
Wet saddle pads
And concentrated training.
Tip: I personally prefer this recipe with a good amount of consistency. 👌 👍 😆
It's a good day to get out and ride!

Happy Easter!

Christ is risen, He is risen indeed,
O, sing hallelujah!
Join the chorus, sing with the redeemed,
Christ is risen, He is risen indeed!
~ Christ is Risen, He is Risen Indeed, by Keith and Kristyn Getty

"Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen!"

She is Gypsy/cob, about 14/14.2 hands, and one hunk of a horse! 😂

Such a great group of gals and horses to work with!
We covered some light groundwork, softening, stopping, backing, leg cues, walk, trot, canter, and ended with a fun obstacle course.

I will put videos in my stories!

Keep an eye out for my next clinic. 👀 😉

Happy New Year!

Here's a photo dump of the great horses I had the opportunity to work with during 2022's training season!
Besides a great group of horses, I also had an even better group of clients to work with! I had so much fun meeting and getting to know each of my clients while I worked with each one's horse. ❤️
It has also been fun seeing how much each of my students have grown during 2022. I'm looking forward to seeing them progress in their horsemanship skills even more in 2023!
I'm excited to see what 2023 brings!

We were loping down the gravel road today and the idea popped into my head to take a slow-motion video of it. 😆
Slow-motion is so dramatic its hilarious! 🤣
Stetson is coming along nicely, walk, trot, canter, leg cues, trailriding, and he even showed at one of our local open-shows a couple of months ago!

Thunder was so excited when I put the harness on him today!
I haven't hooked him up to the sled since the winter before last, so it's been a while. I just did a little warm-up, ground-driving, to get him back into practice before hooking him up to the sled.
Pulling the sled is Thunder's favorite! ❄️ 💙

Isn't this filly so pretty?! 😍
Wags is a 3 1/2 year-old Morgan/Arabian (aka, Morab) that I've been working with each fall since she was 1 1/2 (you might be able to look back on my posts and find pics of her 😉). She has been in for a couple of weeks now and doing excellent under saddle, walk, trot and will be out on the trails soon too!

Don't forget to check out my stories for more snippets of training!

Lucky is coming along nicely! Today was my second ride on him. He can be a bit finicky when he gets moving under saddle, so we are working on relaxing a little more, which he is doing well with. 😊

I just love the fall colors in the background!! 🍂 🍁 💛🤎

I've been doing lots of trailriding on these three. They are all coming along so well!

Callie has been on several trailrides with other horses now, and just last week we started doing more trailrides out alone. She was very prancy at the beginning, with the typical high Arab tail 😅. However, she was not a bundle of nerves and anxiety! She was uncomfortable, but also pretty confident. We've also been working on a little neck reining!

I took Cami on her 3rd trailride today! The first trailride was with a buddy, but she could've cared less about him. 😆 Since she didn't care whether a buddy came or not, I decided to see how she would ride out alone and she did great! I did the same today! We say a truck and trailer (which was very loud), and since I didn't know what her reaction would be, I hopped off and lead her into a driveway, facing her towards the truck. She looked at it, but didn't pay much mind to it. 😁 We also saw a tractor pull into one of the fields on our road. I wasn't so sure about it, but since it was in the field, instead of the road, I just hopped off again and lead her past it as it drove. She started backing away from it, but then changed her mind and stood still!! I was so proud of her! 🥰 I'm not a fan of mixing horses and tractors (I've got stories 🤪), but Cami handled it so well.

This week is my last week with Magnum and Gunner. They are both such good boys!
I did a ton of trailriding with Gunner, walk, trot, canter, exposing him to as much as I could. He was a grouchy man to start, swishing his tail at anything I asked of him, and constantly chomping on the bit. I never backed down on anything I told him to do, but just continued to push him through his attitude. I wasn't sure he would get over himself, but I was determined he'd learn to do what I asked of him anyway. Not only that, but he did, in fact, improve his attitude so, so much!
As I mentioned before, Magnum loves every bit of our sessions and often begs for more! He is one of the sweetest, most easy-going horses I've worked with. He usually beats Gunner to the gate when they see me coming! 😅 (today he had to canter to beat Gunner🤣🐎) He doesn't care about passing traffic or birds flying out of the bushes even though he's only been on four trailrides!! He's past that stage already, too grown up to throw fits. 😅 It's all about a good temperament and a solid foundation. A horse can do just about anything with a good, strong foundation 👌

That was quite the lengthy update, but I hope you all enjoy it! 😁😊

Quick update on Dexter!
I've been able to ride him a few times now (video from his second ride)!
Some horses are all-around good horses, some are better on the ground than under saddle, and some are better under saddle than on the ground (strangely enough). So far Dexter is more calm and easy going under saddle than on the ground! 😃
We are currently working on responding to leg and rein pressure, and desensitizing to the spray bottle since he is not a fan. 😅 Dexter also got his first bath today and did really well!
