CaliBreton Coat Colors. So many different colors. There a few that aren’t even in this photo. Here is the complete list of coat colors you can get with the French Brittany. Black and White Solid, Black and White Roan, Black Tricolor Solid, Black Tricolor Roan, Liver Tricolor Solid, Liver Tricolor Roan, Liver and White Solid, Liver and White Roan, Orange and White Solid, Orange and White Roan. With orange and white dogs, I see a some dogs having a more yellowish orange and white coat and some having a redder darker more fiery orange and white. A lot of Andros pups turn out this color. Anyways, so many to choose from! What’s your favorite?

This is so popular that Claremont high school asked me to come in and make a video and be interviewed about how cool he is! JKJK high school kids making a video on reading ethics and adopting dogs. They interviewed adoption agencies and breeders to get both sides.

So many of our clients and followers ask about roan or roaning(freckles, spots, mixing of colors) in a dogs coat. People see our new born puppies and are worried that they won’t have any roan in their coat because the pups are solid in color. Here is how coloring goes with French Brittanys. They are all born with zero roan in their coat. Roan is a blending of colors that appears with time. Just because a puppy is born solid black and white with zero roan or spots, does not mean it’s going to always be that way. As a matter of fact almost every single pup we produce will have some sort of roan in its coat. I’d say half the litter to possibly three quarters will have solid roan when they grow old. As you can see in the photos, Sky was born solid black, white and tan. As time went on her roan and blending of colors appeared. Once she was an adult, there wasn’t a spot on her body with solid white. The next question we get asked, is how do we know how much roan my puppy will have? The answer is by looking at the paws. A puppy with solid black paws, will have heavy roan. A puppy with solid pink paws, will have minimal to no roan. A puppy with half pink and half black will have medium roan. The black paws are basically black skin pigment and black skin pigment in French Brittanys represents roan. Black skin and roan go hand and hand. I hope this answers your questions. For all the families getting puppies this litter, have no fear, most of these puppies will have some level of roan. Some heavy some very light. Please don’t look at the litter and their new born coat and try and predict what the pup will look like. It will drastically change with time. Don’t judge a book by its color.
