I wrote a little thing for my Himisaboo
Well, it's not little. It's long. Truth be told, if I could say all of the good things I think about this dog, the words would never stop.
Ode to Himisaboo
When we went to the vet to pick you up,
We were listening to country music on the radio.
I shoulda know'd better than that.
Ya know?
But of all the dogs that ever lived
On God's green Earth,
You are the one most like a country song,
Since the day of your birth.
You love your mama.
You can barely wait to hunt for squirrels.
And birds.
And once you even caught a frog.
And when you run after all those critters,
You are the fastest dog!
And you love your mama
You followed me round and round
Our big ol yard and that little tractor.
I sang "I shoulda been a cow dog" and you wagged your tail,
Cause singin' in tune just weren't a factor
And you love your mama
You like to drink my coffee
When you think that I'm not lookin'.
And you always come into the kitchen
To see what I got cooking.
And you love your mama.
All the girls love you too.
They giggle at your sight.
And when they ask, "Can I pet your dog?"
You like when I tell them "That would be all right".
And you love your mama.
Riding in the truck
Is one if your favorite things.
You like to put your head out the window,
Even when it rains.
And you love your mama.
Our time is winding down, and I can't help but ask,
Did I do all the things you wanted?
Was I successful at my task?
Did I make your life happy?
Did I make your time count?
Because you did all those things for me,
In endless amount.
You love your mama.
You love your mama like no dog ever has.
Whether I'm mad,
Or sad,
Or just my regular self,
You love us unconditional...
Your daddy and myself
You love your daddy too.
You don't give out a lot of kisses,
But you do lick all my tears.
You've been doing that a lot lately,
As I remember all our years.
And when I look into your old tired cloudy eyes
I wonder if you always knew...
Just how very much,
Your mama loves you too.
