TRAINER TIP OF THE DAY:
WANNA KNOW HOW TO GET YOUR DOG TO LEAVE YOU ALONE WITH MINIMAL EFFORT OR MONEY?
What a crazy day full of fun Texas slush! We did enrichment exercises here. This is what I call "lazy training". What does that mean? Enrichment is engaging your dogs' natural instincts to sniff and work for food. This creates a more mentally stimulated pup, and that means you don't have to walk them out in the ice rain to exercise them!
Well, how do you do this? There are many ways to enrich your dog without buying a bunch of crazy dog puzzles from the store!
Two of my favorite methods to keep your dog busy while you relax!
First method - The towel method.
Get a cheap, old towel, roll it up (think tie-dye shirt type rolling) and sprinkle part of or an entire meal into the towel. (larger dogs will need a few rounds of this to include a whole meal) and let your dog get to sniffing!
Second method - The Muffin Tin
Grab a muffin tin, you can use this in many different ways so just experiment with it and see what works for you! You can just simply flip this upside down, dump the food on top, and have the pup navigate through the small channels of the tin.
Second way I use this is by filling and freezing items/food in the small muffin bowls. I use part of their meals, vegetable/fruit purees, sodium free broths, treats, water, and freeze the whole tin.
You can use these methods when your dog is overly excited about eating as well to slow them down and avoid vomiting and bloat.
