The number one most asked question people ask when they visit the Ranch Across the Road is "How many roosters do you have?" The second most asked question is "That many?!?"

I love my roosters. When you have a lot of chickens you get the luxury of choosing only the nicest and most handsome boys to guard your flocks. We don't keep mean roosters here because we've found they make better soup than friends. This year all of our neighbors have lost chickens to predators and we haven't lost a single one. I think our gentle giant roos get the credit for that.

Pictured here is Tank, the Jubilee Orpington watching over some of the free range flock while they hunt for grasshoppers. (No one in this pic is available. I'm just showing them off.)

This chicken has a mohawk and now she's asking if she can have the keys to the truck. Kids today.

How do you get a baby chicken to p**p? Try to take a cute picture of it. It works every time!

These are the last of my Rainbow Layer chicks for the season and there are less than 25 left. Naked Necks, fibromelanastic crosses, speckled Olive Eggers, and more. Because of the genetics involved in creating these beauties hens may lay any color of the rainbow from white to dark choclate brown but the odds are on blue and green. I also have a very limited number of Silkies.

Message me to arrange a time to come pick your favorite or stop by any time today, Sunday, June 30th before 5pm. I'll be here enjoying the show these little ones are putting on. 20690 Oasis Ave in Peyton. (I also have pullets that will be laying very soon but they aren't as cute so no pics of those.)

Edited to add: All these little fluffs are gone and in new homes. I still have lots and lots of older chicks and pullets though so don't be too sad.

Have you got a broody hen that just won't quit? I just pulled a small hatch of all my very favorite types of chicks out of my incubator and they would love to make your broody girl their new mom. Zombies, naked necks, speckled olive eggers, Silkies, and fibromelanastic crosses. Message me to arrange picking some up before I remember how much I love new chicks and keep them all for myself.

Come to the Ranch Across the Road for the end of my chick season. Due to some health issues I'm being forced to end my chicken season early this year and I have got to move out my absolutely amazing selection of beautiful and unusual chicks. Frizzles, Silkies, zombies, fibromelanastic rainbow layers, Crested Polish, speckled Olive Eggers, some of the prettiest Naked Necks I've ever hatched and more! Facebook won't let me go into details but let's just say my loss is your gain. Bring a box and plan to fill it up. I also have bunches of soon-to-be-laying pullets that im similarly motivated move.

20690 Oasis Ave in Peyton till 7pm on Saturday and 10am to 7pm on Sunday. Message me for more details or just show up.

I just pulled eight of the cutest little fluff balls out of the incubator. Look at those feathered feet! Let me know if you need to add some Silkies to your flock. As far as I can tell I have two black, two partrige, two blue, one white, and one buff. Get the whole sampler pack and I'll make you a good deal!

We've had some busy days around here. Foxes, hawks, incubators that quit working halfway through hatch day, and Facebook locking me out of my account. If I owe you a message I will be getting back to you soon. My incubator is working again and full of fun new babies so I'll update about those tomorrow.

"Who are you calling funny looking?"

Ranch Across the Road is open and in order to make room for my next hatch I need to move out some of these little weirdos. Today only Naked Necks and Frizzles are at a reduced, um, [insert something here that won't have Facebook slapping my wrist]. Of course I still have my usual lineup of amazing, beautiful, and boring chickens too. 20690 Oasis Ave in Peyton until 6pm tonight and by appointment most other days.

Raptor wants to invite you to open hours at the Ranch Across the Road! Saturday June 8th from 10am to 6pm and Sunday June 9th from 10am to 6pm at 20690 Oasis Ave in Peyton.

We have chicks (silkies, frizzles, Crested Polish, Naked Necks, Marans) coop ready pullets (Black S*x Link, Barred Rock, Brown Leghorn, Buckeye, Speckled Sussex and more) and a few adult Bielefelder hens. We also have Raptor who can often be spotted running back and forth and trying desperately to get our free range hens to pay attention to him. He's the hardest working man in roostering.

Free eggs for everyone who stops by!

If you have to ask "Is that chicken dead?" it's a good sign they're enjoying their dust bath.

I have three big, beautiful Bielefelders looking for a new coop. These are the last of the large breed hens I will have this year. Bielefelders lay large brown eggs year round and their good natured personalities help them fit in well with any flock. I am motivated to move these three ladies out together but they can go separately as well. Message me for more info.

The ranch is open! Today (May 25th) is the day to start your collection of unique chicks that are freshly hatched ready for new friends, or to add to your flock with coop ready pullets who are known to be good layers, or fill your coop with friendly and gentle adult hens who will provide you with large eggs year round.

20690 Oasis Ave in Peyton is the place to fi d all this plus eggs and roosters. I'll be open until 6pm today so please stop by even if it's just to tell me you think Naked Necks are weird looking.

Meet Egger Allen Poe, resident Ayam Cemani rooster and hater of bagels if this picture is to be believed. Egger is going to head up my zombie project this year. Zombies are chickens with black skin and combs but white white feathers. I've got a couple of them already but more importantly I've got the genetics to make more thanks to Egger.

Hey friends. No open ranch hours today after all. I woke up feeling pretty rotten and run down and I need to rest. The good news is I have two incubators filled to bursting with some amazing chickens that will be available next weekend. On the menu are Silkies, Crested Polish, super dark egg laying Marans, Salmon Faverolles, Naked Necks, fibromelanastic Naked Necks, fibromelanastic rainbow layers, and more! So next weekend I will have everything from adult hens to freshly hatched chicks and if I'm sick again I'll have the fam out there slinging babies.

(I know the temps/humidity on my incubators are wrong. I had just loaded them up and they were returning to the right settings.)

I cannot get over the way this Brahma pullet is feathering out. When you look at her from above her leg feathers stick out further than anything else.

This little beauty is not available but I will have open ranch hours tomorrow with oodles of pullets and adult hens. Details and pics to follow once I have recovered from how cute this baby is.

Friends, if you have sent me message or tried to contact me and have not gotten an answer I am very sorry. I am not ignoring you and I want to get back to you. I have a chronic illness and am experiencing a very bad flare up requiring all my energy being put towards recovery. No open ranch hours this weekend but I hope to be back to responding to messages and setting up meetings to get my beautiful little raptors to you again very soon.

Friends, no open ranch hours this week. I'm going to be super busy deep cleaning coops, rearranging flocks, and preparing my incubators for the start of hatching season!

That said, I am available most times with just a little notice. I still have available:
5 adult Dark Brahma hens
12 adult Bielefelder hens
6 New Hampshire Red pullets (2 weeks)
20 Brown Leghorn pullets (2-4 weeks)

Don't forget that I'll have open ranch hours today till 6:00! I'm dropping the price on all my Brahams because I need the coop space for a fun new project. I've also got Bielefelders, Brown Leghorns, New Hampshire Reds, satin silkie mixes, and tons of free eggs. Also a hot mess rooster.

Open ranch hours all day Saturday! I've got tons of fun stuff to choose from.

1. Several adult Bielefelder hens. Buy them in pairs and save!

2. My entire flock of adult Brahma hens. I've got dark, light, Buff, and black. Again, cheaper by the pair.

3. Brown Leghorn chicks between 1 and 3 weeks old. These will grow in to quirky and talkative hens who lay HUGE white eggs and eat very little.

4. New Hampshire Red chicks nearing 2 weeks old. They're cute and a nice reliable, early layer to add to your coop.

5. Absolutely 100% free eggs just for stopping by. No obligation and they're so pretty you won't even need to dye them for Easter. (You still can. My feelings won't be hurt.)

6. Somehow I still have this hot mess frizzle rooster and a small flock of satin silkie mix hens. They're all trying to become teen moms and sit on eggs so please save me from them.

20690 Oasis Ave in Peyton. I'll be open from 9am to 6pm and I guarantee I won't run out of eggs. If people don't come take them I might have to start throwing them at cars.

I am making my Bielefelder flock available and there are four reasons you should stop by and pick up a new friend or two.
1. Bielefelders are gentle giants. They could could use their size for evil doings but they are calm and docile and get along with all other breeds of chickens.
2. The ladies lay HUGE brown eggs all year round, for their entire life. Our girls keep us in eggs all winter long when everyone else is resting.
3. Bielefelders do equally well free ranging or confined. They enjoy chasing grasshoppers and napping in the shade.
4. These are excellent dual purpose birds. The roosters are absolute beasts and their meat is delicious.

I will not be making my roosters available but all my hens have been exposed to my boys (Bort and AlsoNamedBort) and their eggs could incubated to make more beautiful babies.

Stop by on Sunday March 24th between 9am and 6pm to take a look at these sweet girls and maybe leave with a new bestie. 20690 Oasis Ave in Peyton. Look for the greenest house in the world and park between the house and the garage.

How do you know you're obsessed with your chickens? You visit Stonehenge and all you can think about is how much your birds would like a rock like this to sharpen their beaks on. Fun fact, Stonehenge is surrounded by sheep and the whole place basically smells like a barn. This is the kind of valuable information I strive to bring you.

Anyway, no open ranch hours this week. Everything is a mess from all the melting snow and we will be using this weekend to do preventative worm/lice/mite treatment.

"Hey Mom, thanks for the fresh water. We're just going to hydrate by pecking at this filthy water."

Open ranch hours on Sunday, March 10th from 9am-5pm! I've got Cochins and Silkies and some accidental Silkie/Leghorn crosses that resulted in some funky little hens with beautiful fibro genetics. I've even got some Crested Polish crosses with cute hairdos and silly personalities. All young hens who have recently started laying plus one frizzle roo who's looking for love. I can't start moving my other big breeds until I move these out of here so I'm eager to rehome these now so I can get down to the business of Bielefelders and Brahmas.

20690 Oasis Ave in Peyton. Look for the greenest house in the world and park between the house and the garage. We'll see you on camera and be right out to help you. Also ask about availability of eating eggs. I'm not hatching yet so I'm about to be pushed out of my house by fresh eggs.

Make plans and chickens laugh. All my plans for my flocks this year have been thrown out the window by personal/life/health reasons. I won't even be able to start this year's hatching season for at least another month. I am absolutely itching to get my incubators powered up but I need to redo my entire hatching and brooding setup first.

Have I ever introduced you to Rebel? She's truly a one of a kind chicken. She's a Brown Leghorn who got it into her head last year to hatch 10 eggs and she was an excellent mother. She's been hanging around the coop she used as a nursery last year so I think she's already considering another go at motherhood.

Leghorns lay huge white eggs and they lay a lot of them. They are not particularly friendly chickens but they're never aggressive, they simply prefer to do their own thing. They are petite birds and because they are such great free rangers they have an excellent feed:egg ratio.

My plan is to get several Brown Leghorn pullets from a hatchery to increase the number of white egg layers in my free range flock. My goal is to just sell chickens I have hatched and raised here at the Ranch Across the Road but in special cases like this I will order from a hatchery and then sell the extras once I have vetted them and assessed their health and hardiness. If you are interested in getting some of these unique and productive birds please stay tuned. I will be getting a shipment of them later this month and I will make them available once they've tested out my new brooders for me. Watch this page to see updates and availability of these beauties and all my chickens.

Just on a plane, thinking about how much my chickens would love to free range in this gorgeous country. I'll be back in a little less than two weeks to start hatching eggs changing up my flocks. If you're in the market for Salmon Faverolles, Brahmas, or Bielefelders stay tuned because I'm planning on moving out some friendly egg layers that are sure to delight and amuse your guests.

Speckled eggs are my favorite and the girls have been giving me some absolute stunners lately. Almost too pretty to cook. Almost. I always have eggs available so stop by during open ranch hours and get some for yourself. I won't keep all the speckled ones for myself.

Speaking of open ranch hours, there will be none this weekend because the forecast says we will be buried in snow by tomorrow afternoon. Please stay tuned though because I will be doing a big clear out of several of my flocks as I get ready for hatching season. For now stay warm and dry this weekend!

Edited to add: The last frizzle hen has been sold. The rooster is still here and still loud.

Last week's open ranch hours were a success and it was so fun seeing some old friends and meeting new ones. We were hoping to be open all weekend but then all the humans in the house got colds. We don't want to let a few germs keep us closed all weekend so Ranch Across the Road will be open from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, January 28th.

20690 Oasis Ave in Peyton is the place to be for Silkies, satin Silkie mixes, frizzles, extra fancy rainbow layers, Naked Necks, eating eggs, and more! Just pull up into the spot between the small green house and the big green garage and we will be right out to help you with the newest addition to your flock. (I will update this post if anything sells out so please check back here before driving out if you're only interested in one specific thing. No holds but there is lots and lot to pick from!)

The ranch is open! Or at least it will be on Sunday, January 21st from 9am to 4pm. I have eggs, Silkie hens, mixed satin Silkie hens, bantam Cochin hens, and more including this Frizzle roo and hen.

Baby, it's cold outside! This weekend is going to be chilly so we are going to snuggle in and stay as warm as possible. I've decided not to have any open ranch hours this weekend because I don't know about you guys but I don't want to be outside chickening when it's windy and below zero.

The sad news is that we had our very first hawk attack and we lost one of our sweet Silkie mamas. Our small but mighty free range rooster, Raptor was also attacked but he managed to get away. We are going to immediately take steps to make our runs more secure and get some extra treats for Raptor and his friends Tank, Chiquito, and Mr. Mister because they're all such good, brave boys.

Lovelies, I have decided to change up the way I sell chickens. A lot of my time is spent chatting with people who say they really want chickens only to have them never show up to get any. In addition Facebook frequently doesn't show me messages or only shows them to me long after they've been sent. As a result I've decided to stop selling chickens by appointment. It just doesn't work, especially in the summer when I have brooders full of chicks to manage.

In order to make things easier for everyone I'm going to switch to having regular "shop" hours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. My hope is to post every Thursday what I have for sale and when the ranch will be open. Right now I only have eggs and hens but in the spring I will have chicks and hatching eggs and by summer I hope to have freshly picked veggies and handmade goods such as skin care products made from locally sourced ingredients.

Please come back on Thursdsy to see what I'll have this weekend. In the meantime here is a picture of one of my dimmer roosters caught up in a tumbleweed. Enjoy!
