Our pretty girl......at her core she is a sweetheart. As you can see she wears her heart on her shoulder. She has mellowed so much since arriving. Becoming more and more trusting.....allowing more and more handling.
I still believe she is "off" in her hips.
Her coat is an absolute beautiful copper penny.
She and Ro are doing well together during turnout. Due to the fact that Ro is the lead mare between those two.
We love this sweet girl.....she has the sweetest nicker and whiney. Very distinct.
We continue to show her love and kindness. Ever how far she progresses.....will be accepted. She has her place here at Chases Landing.

She's come along nicely....pretty girl.....
Now that I have her nutrition stabilized. I am going to start hand walking her to learn commands.
She still gets a little testy when being touched and definitely expresses her discontent. It has gone from kicking out with one hind leg to stomping the ground with same foot....she yearns for the interaction, and love. Vision plays a large part of her mistrust. I talk softly to her continually, while working around her.. I've learned to listen to her communicaton.
I love her.

She is doing so well....just a couple of more days, the 20th, will be 1 yr that she has been with us. This lil mare wants to be loved by her human. Yet still has the fear of....What I have no idea. Her vision is compromised. And I believe is part of her aggressive behavior at times. She loves attention and for me to hold and hug her head.

She is doing so well ❤

Just this past week. Flicka is doing amazing. She goes out with the others to graze....and is getting used to the routine of the daily schedule. Soon she will know before turn out that she gets groomed, and given a once over.
Sweeter and sweeter by the day.

Flicka started having an episode of heaves yesterday. Administered a half a dose of Dex at about 2 pm.....not much better by 7:30. Administered 2nd half dose at 8.
Her weight is so much better. She went out, for the first time on Friday, with her stable mates, and ran and bucked, frolicking and enjoying the sunshine. In typical Arabian fashion she pranced and glided across the barnyard, tail up and graceful. So beautiful.

Yesterday evening, after bringing the herd in ahead of PM feeding. Ms Flicka seemed very needy. Leading to one of the sweetest interactions with her.
In my usual routine after taking her halter off I always rub her face, down her nose where her old halter sat, her big jaws, under her chin and down the front of her neck. In doing so last night she placed her head over my shoulder and drew me tightly to her. Reciprocating with arms wrapped around her neck I hugged her back. She lingered there until I released my arms. She then placed her muzzle in my hand and rested it there for a few moments. I believe she was trying to tell me something. I listened to her breathing, as I know she, its said, does have issues. No wheezing was detected...regardless of the "WHY" and knowing nothing was seriously amiss. It was one of the sweetest moments that she and I shared. These are the kind of moments that make this endeavor so rewarding. I do what I do for the love of these majestic creations. They are so grateful for everything. This, they show, during times like these. I love her. It warms my heart to know that I have, and can continue to help her.
However, I almost think she has a tooth bothering her on her left side. It seemed that she wanted me to rub that side just below her eye.
She has become quite affectionate during the last couple of weeks with me.
It is my belief that with some training this lil mare will make a good riding partner. She will need someone that she can trust, tho,as I believe she is almost blind.
She is sweet, and coming along nicely with her weight gain.
Keep us in your prayers as we continue our fight for Flicka.

I was beyond words when the blanket came off this morning. As a matter of fact....I was inside babysitting lil man. Hunter took blankets off, she had on 2 so as to conserve all of her energy. When he sent me the pictures. I literally cried.
This is why! Our WHY! THIS is one of the greatest rewards to see.
We have a lil way yet to go. But Wow! Just Wow.
I have been working with her during meal time, so that she is not so pissy. I keep one hand resting somewhere on her. She will raise her head, pin those ears and look at me sideways. I talk her back down, letting her know it's me and she is ok. She will do this several times during a meal, or during the time I am standing there with her. Only when eating her grain, tho. She is becoming more and more relaxed each time.
This lil mare arrived here in Dec 2020, and jumped straight into our heart. As I have shared in earlier posts, we came to an understanding the very first morning after she arrived. She is pretty mellow with me, as we are still learning each other.
It is my belief, as well as my hope, with a bit of work she will learn more than just how to halter up.
Stay tuned.....I look forward to see her progress in the next 2 months. By then I think at this rate she should be right where she needs to be weight wise.
Until next time.....keep us in prayer.

Flicka is doing well.....I did not get to weigh her on Monday....but today will be the day. I have adjusted her feed, by incorporating Beet Pulp and Rice Bran, which will allow an adjustment of grain ration. Only reducing quanity per feeding slightly, not frequency. She still gets fed 3 times per day, which seems to keep her blood sugar level and "hangries" controlled.
What a sweet spirit. With such a willingness to do what we ask.....once her health and weight is better... she will learn a few basic fundamentals for safety. She is great at being haltered up and walking on lead, and backing up. Much more than that tho...not so much. We have fallen in love with her, and pray for her to thrive. She continues to give me the sweetest nickers whenever she knows I am near. Such a sweet song for my heart. Stay tuned as our fight for her continues. Keep her and us in prayer.
