Birds are very important to our ecosystem.

Can we be blunt? We’re gonna be blunt and maybe a little mean.

We get a lot of calls from people who, intentionally or otherwise, kill baby birds and their parents because they’re scared of them. This isn’t okay.

Songbirds are dedicated parents and— just as you would if a giant predator a thousand times your size kept hanging out next to your newborn’s crib— they’ll try to defend their young when we disturb them. This mostly involves simply swooping toward us. It’s usually a bluff attack that doesn’t actually make contact, because songbirds know they can’t win a fight against a human.

It’s unlikely that a songbird will actually make contact with your body, and it’s even less likely that it will actually hurt you. If a two-ounce bird brushes your scalp with its beak, you will probably barely feel it. Songbirds simply aren’t capable of seriously injuring humans.

If you have bird parents guarding a nest near your home or business, you have no choice but to tolerate them for a few weeks until the young are grown. Birds can’t find relocated nests and wildlife rehabilitators don’t have the resources or legal authority to take eggs or young simply because you don’t want them there. Removing a an active native bird’s nest is a federal crime.

Use the back door if you can. Hang out inside instead of on your porch for a couple of weeks. The lives of baby birds matter more than your very temporary inconvenience.

Be that weird guy who pulled over and checked on the animal hit by a car, to see if it was still alive and in need of help.

Be the construction worker that left work early while his buddies laughed at him because he found an injured squirrel and wanted to get it to safety.

Be the irritating woman who wasn’t afraid to stop traffic because a mama duck was trying to cross the road with her babies.

Be the gross person who isn’t disgusted by a mangy fox and sees it as an animal that needs help from the right people.

Be the aggravating informant who tells the guy buying rat poison what is does to our local wildlife.

Be the uncool kid who stops his friends from trying to hurt a snake they found for fun.

When we start feeling bad or embarrassed for showing EMPATHY toward another and trying to SAVE A LIFE, then we have let the opinions of others mean WAY too much.

Never apologize for being a good and caring human being. There aren’t enough in this world.

🔸️ ATTENTION: APPALACHIAN TRAIL DOG OWNERS & HIKERS 🔸️

Over the weekend, it was reported that a hiker found dog treats stuffed with fishhooks near the George W. Outerbridge shelter on the Appalachian Trail.

The incident occurred near the North Trail Loop leading to the shelter, on State Game Lands #217, in Washington Township, Lehigh County.

Items like these could prove deadly to any animal that consumes them, including wild and domesticated animals.

If anyone has any information about the incident or locates more findings, please call 1-833-PGC-WILD or 1-833-PGC-HUNT immediately.

CAUTION!!!PLEASE READ FULLY! Be aware in the colder winter months inside and less fresh air circulating in our homes!
Many of us will be using humidifiers during this season (which are a great health benefit to all creatures), but if you use a diffuser to humidify with essential oils BE CAREFUL!
Many essential oils are highly toxic to pets!
Listed below are some examples, but there are so many essential oils and fragrances available, I highly recommend a thorough internet search before putting any oil or fragrance into the air. Little fresh air also means that whatever you diffuse will be much more concentrated. And even if you do use a safe fragrance, make sure your pet has plenty of room to leave the area! Remember, their noses are much more sensitive than humans noses.

This good looking Doberman boy was just chauffeured to Nebraska. He was a great passenger and was very happy for the attention I gave him. Things like, out of kennel time and human compassion in the car at stops is what truly makes a difference in the transport process.

I find it important for people to know that every pet is important to Furward and Barkward.
That’s why, after every transport, I give the kennels and car a good sanitizing clean. I transport often for some of the same breeders, but I still take the health, safety, and welfare of each animal seriously. I clean with Rescue sanitizer.
It’s vet recommended, and it kills more germs (including parvovirus virus) than bleach. It’s a safer and healthier choice to get things ready for my next passenger.
