Hey there Party Pups! We played hard this summer! With school starting back up, so is KC's K9's! I learned a lot from all of you last year. I am excited to bring a fresh pallet and another year of experience to your homes. I am now booking appointments starting September 10th! I have modified how I schedule appointments. I will now be booking for 4pm and 6pm slots on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Friday I will be booking 5pm and 7pm. I will Be booking weekend appointments on a biweekly basis. Saturday appointments can be booked for 9am, 11am, 5pm, and 7pm. All communication from KC's K9's will be received in your email or via voice call. I do not cancel training for rain or snow but may if the roads are deemed unsafe due to ice.

I hope that with some of the tweaking I have done to my scheduling, I will be able to give a smaller client pool, more rigorous attention.

I am also introducing a new regiment for more extreme cases. This would require booking one training session daily for two weeks. While speaking with other trainers and owners over the summer I heard a common frustration. Everyday application! How often we hear that "He does great, when I am training!" Or a trainer says "They work great together, in class". I would like to give my clients a different model. Instead of checking in once a week, we work together. Each day we address what has worked and what is frustrating. I believe, this will give those fundamentals, the at home application that our group classes may struggle to communicate.

It's gonna be another year of growth! Call me Tuesday through Saturday from 4pm-8pm at 253-257-6952 or send me an email to [email protected].

KC's K9's Recipe For A Good Dog

Keep it consistent! - Everyone should have the same expectations and be using the same vocabulary with your pup. In large households it can be useful to create a ‘Doggy Dictionary’ a ‘your pup for Dummies’ , ‘Vocabulary Sheet’ or perhaps ‘A Guide To Speaking To Our Dog. Vol. I’ . Jokes aside, Posting a vocab sheet on the fridge can be helpful with a multi person household. Be as specific as you can. Sit - Rear end on the floor until I saw “ok” . Off - All four paws are touching the floor. Down - Belly on ground until I say “ok” .

Integrate Patients - Into every corner of your life with your dog. You are all figuring each other out. Be patient with yourselves, be patient with pups and if you get frustrated STOP!

Be on the clock - You must invest time into your dog's education. I recommend 2-3 sessions a day lasting 5 to 10 minutes each. After each session, play with your pup for a few minutes then take pups out for a potty break.

Bounce around - Train in different areas, on different surfaces and switch up pups handler. Dogs do not generalize well. Oftentimes, they learn in pictures and patterns. The picture for sit is most often, in front of us, facing us. This is why when we teach dogs to heel there are some of them that will walk to the front of you before they sit. It is not unheard of for some dogs to walk to a specific spot to sit because training only ever happened in that spot. So switch it up. Do the first part of the session inside, then move to the yard. Maybe today we will do training in the kitchen.

Learn to seek “Yes” - Actively seek opportunities to tell your pup YES! It is easy to notice when your pup is doing the wrong things. The frustrating things! Look for pups “yes” moments. Lies down with an appropriate chew, “good girl”. Approaches you and keeps all four on the floor, “look who is so good.”

Enjoy it - This is how you earn a solid relationship with your dog. A dog that is confident, that trusts you, is the kind of dog that will come back when you call. That will drop it when asked. That knows you are a kind and consistent leader. This is how you learn to trust pups. By seeing the growth. This should be a fun journey! Don’t forget, pups life is a short one, make it a good one!

So try to remember, the best recipe for a good dog is …. KIBBLE
Note: KC’s K9’s does not support or oppose the use of kibble in a dogs diet.

Hey there Party Pups! Meet Rex! This little firecracker is SMART! Almost, to smart little sir! I love his energy and big personality. Today Rex walked past other dogs calmly. I can't tell you how proud I was to see him just stroll on by. He's still got some fine tuning to do, but this boy is gonna be just fine. Good Job to him And his Mama. Love you Rexy boy!

Omg it's a Bruno! Don't let his size fool you, this boy is all puppy! He is working on not jumping on people, walking politely and...not stealing things off the counter. Among other things this smart boy is always ready to throw a curve ball. I love you Bruno Baby!

Be the change you want to see in the world! The impact of this sentence is profound. I would like to teach you how to be the change our dogs need! For generations it has been standard practice to be harsh with our dogs. Now, with the power of statistics and the use of the scientific method, we know that what creates a balanced animal is trust, and confidence. Scared dogs bite. Unbalanced dogs bite. I strive to use science based positive methods to raise young dogs and influence the behavior of older dogs. I want to help identify the "why" of your dogs behavior. If we can identify and alter the "why" the behavior no longer has a use. Understanding another species and finding ways to communicate with them is an art and a science. I am so honored to be a part of this field. A part in the amazing changes we are seeing in how we view our companions. As we move into this age, where our dogs are living in our houses instead of in our fields, we are learning how to not just be owners, but be friends, be family. Animals have intense and real emotions, similar to ours. Lets teach them how to exist in this crazy world of loud cars, pretty couches and off limits garbage. I am so looking forward to helping you on this journey!

A long long time ago. In a doggy day care far far away. An employee got sick of being hit in the head with the door. So sh taught all the dogs to wait until she said their name. This is a small group of those dogs. And I am that person!
