Below is an updated list of typical ingredients in my mix. Please note these may occassionally vary depending on availability.
The most notable addition is flaked barley as part of the base, a great choice of grain for rats - less harsh on the kidneys than wheat or oats, and helps reduce the amount of sugar in the mix coming from other bases like the banana brunch. I have also added a small amount of a pygmy goat feed to the recipe for extra variety.
Ingredients:
• Harrison’s Banana Brunch
• Wilko’s Pea Feast
• Allen & Page Pygmy Goat Mix
• Flaked Barley
• Rice puffs
• Cornflakes
• Pasta
• Rice
• Tails dog food (incl. chicken, salmon, maize and rice, no wheat)
• Buckton’s wild bird seed mix (wheat, maize, sunflower, dari, millet, safflower)
• Rosewood Naturals Herbs Plus
• Dehydrated veg - varies from batch to batch, e.g. courgette, squash, spinach, kale, peppers, aubergine, carrots, parsnips, peas, corn, etc.
• Barley rings
Recommendations:
• Approx. 15-20g per rat per day
• Supplement with CaCuD3 or Dr Squiggles
• Suitable for all ages, especially older rats due to low protein, low wheat and a good amount of fat so it is kind on kidneys and good for those needing some help with weight and coat condition. Young, growing rats would benefit from extra protein which I can add on an individual basis.
• I recommend scatter feeding this mix to reduce selective feeding and provide enrichment and an opportunity to express natural foraging behaviour
