Today, I want to share my thoughts on food and dog fitness!

We, humans, often associate fitness with losing weight, but dog fitness is something entirely different. Its main goals are to strengthen muscles, improve coordination, prevent injuries, teach dogs how to use their legs and muscles properly, and, of course, make them think!

Training sessions can be challenging for dogs, which is why we should always reinforce their efforts and keep them engaged. The most common way to do this is with tasty treats! Some dogs are highly motivated by toys, but for most, food is the best reward.

So, don’t be afraid to use treats during training! If you’re worried about overfeeding, you can simply skip one regular meal and use that portion during exercises.

And remember—don’t be stingy! Nobody likes working without a paycheck! 🐶

It may sound simple, but I can’t help reminding you about this!

Don’t forget to give your dog water during training sessions—it’s essential to keep them hydrated! So enjoy your training, have fun, and stay hydrated 💪

One of the most important things to consider during a training session is a non-slippery surface! It’s essential! Any slippery surface can lead to injuries.

So please, take care of your dogs and use mats, carpets, or other non-slip materials 💪

Short reminder!

Have you ever noticed that our dogs usually start with some fun and simple exercises? There’s a reason for that! Warming up before any activity is super important. Running isn’t a warm-up—it’s an activity. But walking on a leash? That totally counts!

Just 5 to 15 minutes is enough. Try to include movements similar to the planned exercises. Sometimes, Timon and I even play together—it’s fun, engaging, and a great way to warm up!

Friends! I know it wasn’t easy to recognize the products from our previous video, so here are some photos with their article numbers!

1️⃣ The first one is a folding gym mat. You can add some challenges to your training session with it because it works as balance equipment! Plus, you can fold and unfold it, allowing for even more variations in use.

2️⃣ The second one—of course, my lovely stool! No comments needed! A truly useful thing.

3️⃣ The third—chair pad. Also great as balance equipment.

4️⃣ The fourth—bath mat. Perfect as a target and also great as a non-slip cover!

5️⃣ The fifth—scratching mat. Another good target with a non-slip surface!

So, here they are! I hope you enjoy your training process!

Did you know there’s a difference between dog fitness and rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation focuses on recovering from an injury or surgery, relieving pain, and restoring movement. It often includes medical treatment to help manage pain and aid recovery.

Dog fitness, on the other hand, aims to improve a dog’s overall strength, balance, coordination, endurance, and flexibility. It can also help prevent injuries.

A rehab specialist is usually a vet or works under veterinary guidance. They create the best recovery program tailored to your dog’s needs. That’s why I always recommend visiting a vet first if your dog has any active health issues—it’s essential for creating a safe and effective fitness plan.

Remember: Fitness should only be done if your dog is pain-free and fully recovered from an injury or surgery!

I often remind you to pay attention to the signs of fatigue during training sessions.

But what are these signs?
Let’s clear it up!

There are physical and behavioral signs of fatigue.

Physical signs include lying down or sitting more often, shaking or trembling (especially in the legs), and excessive panting.

Behavioral signs can be a lack of engagement, yawning or lip licking, decreased interest in rewards, and increased distractions.

So be careful, observe your dog, and remember—even a short training session is a big step forward!

What treats should we use during training sessions?
There are no strict rules, I would say. The only rule I try to follow is that my dogs don’t get these treats every day. So, it’s something really tasty and special that they receive only during training.

I use boiled meat or cheese. It’s essential to find something that won’t cause digestive problems! I’ve heard stories of dogs who are huge fans of cucumbers—some would even sell their soul for a tiny piece! That’s not the case for my dogs, but maybe it is for yours!

I just want to remind you…

If you see a perfect picture or a dog flawlessly performing fitness exercises, it doesn’t mean they are unique or special. It often means they’ve been practicing for years!

So never give up, keep going, and most importantly—always praise your dog for every small but important step 👍

Did you know that one of the most non-obvious signs of fatigue is when your dog starts making mistakes during exercises? What does this mean?

It means that if your dog performs four excellent repetitions of Down to Stand, but on the fifth repetition starts making mistakes, it’s time to stop!

So, be careful and attentive during dog fitness training, and remember—your dog is hardworking and amazing!

Just a quick reminder about the number of exercise repetitions.

If your dog is a beginner, it’s perfectly fine to start with 3–5 repetitions, and 3 exercises are enough.
If your dog is at an intermediate level, aim for 5–8 repetitions and consider increasing the number of exercises to 3–5.
For advanced dogs, 5–10 repetitions are a good target, and the number of exercises can go up to 6.

This is just general guidance, and you should always adapt it to your dog’s individual needs. Be sure to stop if you notice any signs of fatigue 👌

I will never tire of repeating this phrase about dog fitness: First and foremost, you should master the basic exercises!
They are essential because they form the foundation. Only after mastering the basics can you try something more difficult and, perhaps, more exciting.

It’s just like in the human world—you can’t stand on your head during your very first yoga class! Your body needs to be prepared for it.

So, don’t skip those crucial first weeks when your dog learns to stand balanced, sit squarely, and lie down in a balanced position.

Sending hugs 🎄🤗

Why is there no place for punishment in dog fitness training?

The main goal of dog fitness training is to spend quality time with your dog! It should be fun, engaging, and rewarding.

During training, we often ask our dogs to perform strange and challenging tasks. Imagine their reaction if, instead of giving them tasty treats, we started shouting at them! They would begin to associate training with something negative and frightening. But we want them to look forward to our sessions, feeling excited and happy!

So, the next time you feel the urge to shout... pause and shout at yourself instead! Your dog is doing their best to make you proud ❤️

If I could give you the years of my life, I would do it without a second thought. You are a part of my heart—the very best part!

Thank you, my sweetie, for being with us, and please stay with us for many more years to come.
I loved you, I love you, and I will always love you ❤️

Sometimes people say their dogs don’t want to work for treats.
I’d like to share my experience with you:

- I don’t feed my dogs before training sessions. We usually train in the morning, so we simply skip their morning feeding.
- I use treats that my dogs don’t get every day, such as boiled meat or cheese (they usually eat dry dog food).
- My dogs will never work for toys... but you can give it a try with yours!

It’s never too late to start your dog’s fitness journey!

Senior dogs deserve to stay healthy and active too! Just remember to watch for signs of fatigue or discomfort and adjust the exercises accordingly.

No need to rush—stay patient, and don’t forget the tasty treats! You’ll be amazed at how quickly your dog picks it up 😉

Some people say that DogFitness is too much and not really useful. They think it’s just a waste of time.

But come on! You’re spending time with your dog, learning new things together, laughing, enjoying yourselves, and helping each other stay active. I think it’s totally worth it!
