Hello ASF Rat and reptile lovers! Just a quick note and a pic. The quick note is if you are on my list you can reach out now! I'm working through it in order but some change their mind or don't respond. The pic is to prove my rats are working overtime! This is a new mother that gave birth to 16 babies and after feeding them on day 2 she actually fell asleep standing up! That's something I've never seen before! Haha!

Hey Folks! Sorry I haven't kept you all updated on what's been happening here. So this is what's been happening here! I'm in process of repopulating all of my colonies and some new ones and cannot take any new orders for ASF's until further notice. My best guess is that by September 2020 I will hopefully have an over population again. I'm doing my best to grow out as many as I have space and time for without having them in overcrowded living condition. Sorry if I've inconvenienced anyone. Thanks for understanding!

The white African soft furs are consistently having pure white and all brown babies as well as albinos which look just like my original Asf's! I've already seen 4 albinos from 2 different litters. They are strong breeders! I'm very happy to have this new line! Thanks again Jamie!

What I previously called White Asf's are actually standard coloration with the color slowly being bred out leaving only white. Most still have a small patch of brown on their back and the rest of them all white. As this new group of white/standard African soft furs continue to populate their habitat they are birthing more fully white rats and strangely (because I don't know where this gene came from) also all brown and even almost grey rats with no white at all. I've already separated and are breeding the young from this group. Here are some photos of the original group..

On my website (asfrats.com) I tell the story of almost hairless baby Asfs that eventually grew to be a shorter fur of a different color. This here is the first African soft fur I have seen that is this hairless although he still has the long grey fur on the bottom most part of his sides. It looks like "male pattern baldness"!

After raising so many of these African soft furs for over a year and a half, I can honestly say that the 2 in this video are a rarity! I refer to them as guys but they are both females and sisters. Female Asf rats in my experience rarely get past 125 grams and the largest males I have seen were their brothers who were approximately 155 grams each. Sadly they developed tumors and recently past.
Just for fun, if anyone knows an Asf rat breeder ask them what the biggest Asf rat they have ever known of! Enjoy!

My name is Mike Silver and I am a snake owner that lives in Poughkeepsie N.Y.. I purchased my first African soft furred rats in 2018 to feed my and my son’s pets. You can read more details on asfrats.com. In order to keep enough appropriate sized rats for all of our pets I was forced to breed what is now three racks consisting of 29 draws. I sell local to pay for supplies. If you are close enough to pick up I can supply you on a regular basis with as many feeders as you need. If you would like to breed your own I can answer any questions you might have. I have mostly albinos but recently picked up some standard Asf’s and are breeding them together which is giving us some good looking rats for pets! I also have discovered an unusual morph I have not seen anywhere online. So at the moment I call them “Mike’s Morphs”.

So you don't need to ask, my rats are healthy and are treated like pets. I spend a lot of time with them because I am disabled and don’t work. I feed these to my own pets and make sure they have the best for their health. For their bedding I use absorbent horse bedding pellets under Kiln dried, dust free aspen bedding. The mother African soft furred rats like to use paper towels to make their nests softer and more comfortable for their young. I add some meadow grass, or similar, for them to eat and use for bedding if they choose. I feed them high quality high protein dog food, and lots of it. Most recently (Sep. 2019) I have added 2 more products that have worked out well. Manna-Pro Performance Supplement and Manna-Pro Gro for the Milking Doe and her Litter. Thanks Alex!They are sometimes given meal worms, millet sprays and some veggies. They drink only bottled water. Please contact me with any questions you may have and I will be happy to answer.
