Other goals include type (overall build of the hamster) and show standard color.

Meet Donovan! Donovan is a longhaired heterozygous silver Russian blue. Russian blue hamsters are also known as Russian shadowed; a name still hasn't been set in stone for this mutation. I wasn't going to keep this guy at first because the Russian Blue spotting/shadowing tends not to show up very well when it's present on a longhaired hamster. However, I was amazed at the continued growth of this guy's coat, as well as his docile personality. After he caught my eye several times in the community bin, I knew he would be staying here! He will be busy as the foundation hamster of a longhaired line! I'm hoping to eventually cross him into a rex line with the hope of producing some nice longhaired rex!
