Awesome news for our Raptors. 🦅

In an unprecedented move for the welfare of our avian counterparts, Raptor Refuge, Raptor Care Northwest, Northeast Raptor Rescue, we proudly announce the formation of an alliance. This collaborative effort aims to propel raptor rehabilitation to new heights by fostering and, building partnerships, and creating a robust network of support.
Collective Vision and Purpose
We are driven by a shared commitment to the welfare of raptors and the preservation of their habitats. The primary objectives guiding this alliance are:
1. Release with Resilience: Work collectively to release as many raptors as possible back into the wild with a chance of survival equivalent or better than before their rehabilitation journey began.
2. Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with wildlife rehabilitation entities, individuals, corporate bodies, and community groups to build strong partnerships that enhance collective capabilities.
3. Efficient Patient Care: Minimize transport of cases before examination and stabilization, utilizing trained or experienced rescuers, veterinary services, and traditional patient care methods.
4. Innovative Rehabilitation: Employ both traditional and novel rehabilitation methods, drawing upon our extensive state, national, and international networks to ensure the best outcomes for raptors.
5. Post-Release Monitoring: Track the post-release success of rehabilitation efforts to continuously improve and refine rehabilitation practices.
6. Regional Expansion: Spread raptor rehabilitation across regional Tasmania, providing local ownership of issues and offering credible, local expertise to professionals such as veterinarians.
7. Recruitment: Actively recruit more regional raptor rehabilitators who align with the stated objectives to expand the reach and impact of the alliance.
8. Ethical Operations: Operate within the bounds of the law and adhere to ethical standards, especially concerning the 'duty of care' towards the raptors in their charge.

Collaborative Community Engagement
This alliance will extend its collaborative efforts beyond rehabilitation, actively engaging in community awareness, education, and understanding of the importance of raptor conservation. By sharing knowledge and fostering a sense of responsibility towards these majestic birds and aims to create a ripple effect that positively impacts raptor populations and their ecosystems.
The Raptor Alliance invites the support and participation of fellow wildlife enthusiasts, corporate partners, and the broader community to join hands in this noble endeavour. Together, we can ensure a brighter future for raptors and contribute to the overall health and balance of our natural environment.
About this Alliance
This is a collaborative effort between Raptor Refuge, Raptor Care North West, North East Raptor Rescue. With a shared vision for raptor welfare and habitat preservation, the alliance aims to build a strong network of support, foster partnerships, and advance the field of raptor rehabilitation through innovative practices and community engagement. A reminder NOT to feed the wildlife - As humans its our way of connecting but it is doing more harm then good.
Please help our wild aniamls stay wild 🥰

Native Tasmanian species such the Pacific Black Duck and Australian Wood Duck are struggling to survive! Feeding "human" diets such as bread can cause serious health and behavioural issues. Bread does not provide ducks with the correct vitamins and nutrients that they require, but instead overloads them full of carbohydrates, proteins and salts. This can lead to death at a younger age or conditions such as "angel wing," where the wrist joints become distorted, resulting in permanent wing damage and an inability to fly. A loss of flight makes them more vulnerable to predators or not being able to feed correctly or migrate when food runs out in an area.

⚠️Roadkill Reporter App⚠️

NRE has recently released an app that you can report roadkill. This is extremely important and much needed to get statistics on hot spots and numbers of deaths to get a better idea of how to help mitigate roadkill.
Please download and use for each animal you check.
All fields in the app need to be completed to make this app work.

Let’s NOT be the Roadkill capital of the world!

🍃Check In / Update🍃

Hi All
I wanted to checkin and give an update on what’s been happening at Rescue HQ.
We are still rescuing the furred, feathered and scaled kind, albeit not as often as I would like.
My course takes me to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary from Tuesday - Thursday each week so with driving, course work, family and life in general it has been hectic, but so very worth it.
Never the less, I am still having amazing humans reach out for assistance and advice to help our beautiful Tassie wildlife and for that im so very grateful.
If you are thinking about becoming a rescuer or wanting to know what to do when you find orphaned, injured or deceased wildlife, please register for the free Online Rescue Course with Bonorong. (Link to course in comments)

There are three known transmissible cancers in the mammalian world. Surprisingly, two of the three are found in Tasmanian Devils. They are called the Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) and one Devil can pass this tumour to another Devil via direct contact. These DFTD’s have had a devastating impac...

This fellow may look cute, but please remember to never touch or handle a platypus. ✋

Did you know that platypuses (which is the correct plural form, not "platypi") are among the few venomous mammals in the world? 🤔

Male platypuses have a spur, which is connected to a venom-secreting gland that can be located on each hind foot. More venom is secreted during mating season, which is leading researchers to think that the spurs and venom help males compete for mates. 🤓

The venom is not life-threatening to humans, but it can cause severe swelling and excruciating pain. 😬

So please just look, do not touch! 💝

With Swamp Harriers arriving back in Tasmania in the last six weeks, expect to see them foraging roadside and hunting over paddocks. Please be mindful of them, they aren't the quickest of movers and mosey along at their own pace picking off rodents. This male adult was hit at Flowerdale today by a truck and has a mild concussion but we're hoping for a full recovery. Great work Skeat and Geoff for pulling over and saving this boy, much appreciated for your efforts! Once again, thanks to Gavin and all the girls at the Wynyard Vet clinic. So thankful for your ongoing support for these Birds!

is an international day of action for animal rights and welfare. 🐨

Animals bring so much joy and delight to humans and we should do everything we can to care for them, conserve & protect them 💕

Think about all of the animals that mean the most to you, and then think of the ways that you might be able to raise awareness for them. 👊

Have you thought of some ways that you can help animals? 🤔

Here are some simple suggestions below;

- Volunteer at a local animal sanctuary or animal shelter 🐾

- Eat humanely, choose plant based options for the animals 🌱

- Donate to an animal organisation that means the most to you ❤️‍🩹

Incredible news for kangaroos 🦘🎉

The RSPCA has pulled kangaroo meat from its pet food shelves amid animal welfare concerns about how these products are "sourced".

Congratulations to Victorian Kangaroo Alliance and everyone else who has campaigned for this. ❤️👏🏻

VKA have told us that the RSPCA is not only pulling kangaroo products from Victorian shelves, but shelves nation-wide!

Now let's hope the major retailers like Coles and Woolworths follow suit.
